  • As a drone pilot and more importantly a Part 107 pilot, it is important to learn and master a variety of shots. This gives you mastery in your craft and opens the door for potential jobs. In this video we take a look at 5 of those flight maneuvers you should know how to perform as a drone pilot.

They are pretty fun! Especially trying to get our Huskie to stay in one spot :)

Those are all great maneuvers. One question though...I noticed the drone was ahead of a plane taking off. Is that a legal maneuver? I thought you aren't allowed to get that close to a manned aircraft!

Doug it's a great question. We had several spotters but the drone is actually a pretty good distance from the plane in the takeoff video. We were using the Inspire 2 with either the 35 or 50mm lens so we were a good distance away from the plane even though it looks like we are right up on it. We filmed at a non towered airport and had the LAANC authorization as well.

@@coachraythepilot5759 Thanks for the response. I may want to take this shot too. Is there anything the FW pilot needs to file with the FAA if he is allowing this?

@@moodberry To my awareness no. Uncontrolled (pilot)controlled airport. We did talk with the airport manager and reviewed what our plan was. Make sure you have emergency and procedures in place. For instance if we heard another plane on the radio that was inbound for landing we immediately stopped filming with the drone. We had a script of the filming process and shots. We did a few practice runs as well. Other than the LAANC that was really it. Now Class B, C, D that's a whole other can of worms. We used two pilots and two spotters. One person flying the drone and the other pilot working the camera, one spotter for the drone and another for traffic and listening on the handheld. I don't know everything but hope that helps!
