Get off the Keefe train. Keefe isn't on the ice making silly mistakes and taking stupid penalties. He had to do a last-minute line shuffle, and that is the only place he had any culpability.
The weirdest thing is everyone was expecting bruins to throw their weight around and be physical, but it looked more like leafs were trying to be physical and bruins were cool as a cucumber! They shrugged everything off masterfully

Weird game. I thought on the road, they would be less uptight than they often are at home, but I was wrong, they looked tense. They fumbled pucks, made poor passes & turned the puck over way more than I thought they would. It's unlikely they'll be like that in game 2. Matthews putting it off the post with Swayman out of the net was hard to believe. They had chances, producing f*ck-all, while Boston buried their opportunities, helped by too many needless penalties by the Leafs. Btw, the call on McCabe, complete bull$hit by the clown far away in the neutral zone.
Keefe couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. The Leafs will never meet their full potential with him.

Playing tough isn't necessarily hitting everything in sight. It's about fighting for every inch of space out there and imposing your will in every battle and area of the game. Whether it's on the forechek, backcheck or puck retrievals. Be dogged in every aspect of the game and make your team difficult to play against.
100 hit game. The team was focused on proving they weren’t going to get pushed around and Boston matched them in that area but Boston is capable of playing hockey and scoring at the same time. Focus on getting the puck on net and not hitting players as much.
But seriously, this series is going to handicap either team that makes it through if the physical play keeps up.
Not expecting much in the playoffs as was demonstrated tonight. I was born in 1953. I am looking forward to the start of the season in October and the moves that are made in the summer to make the team capable of winning a Stanley Cup. Does any know if Tavares contract is up July 1st this year? Marner do you sign him before July 1st with a movement clause and trade him or let him walk?
JT is up the next year (same as Marner). Both can sign new extensions on the 1st of July. The time to move Marner would’ve been before July 1 2023 but Tre didn’t want to make any moves on the core since he was hired late into the summer (right before the draft)

Leafs need coaching staff to be faster with adjustments and changes. Keeping goalies in after allowing multiple goals in during a single period is not doing you favours. Give the opponent a new look and allow the goalies to work together to win. I sincerely fail to understand Keefe's repeated willingness to leave an underperforming goalie like Samsonov in net over and over instead of swapping him out to Jones or Woll and giving the team a fresh look.

agree with Bert, 1st period was decent and they had good looks. 2nd just really got away from them.
Swayman was also solid all game- and Bruins definitely had good luck on their sides, that Matthews wide-open net chance should have gone in.

Great effort. They just need to dominate by making more assertive plays to each other as well. There were a lot of uncontested lanes to the Bruins net where the forwards chose to shoot instead of driving to the net to challenge the goalie with dangles. Swayman has excellent vision so they gotta make him work by working the zone and then seizing those good looks
They were so busy trying to show everyone how tough they were they forgot to play hockey.. and I'm not sure an .826 save % will get you anything but swept in a series.

They are going to beat Boston because I said so. Nobody believed in them. Everyone outside of Toronto said that Tampa Bay was going to beat them again. What I dislike the most about this team is they had 82 games to clean up their sloppy play. They have had bad defense all season, turned the puck over too many times in the neutral zone, and goal tending has been average at best most games. None of these issues have been addressed. If they get embarrassed in the 1st round again, then the hammer needs to drop starting with Keefe and the GM.

A bit mystifying to me that it seems everyone is oblivious to the fact that the Leafs have allowed three or more 2nd period goals in each of their last three games, YET they have mostly matched or outscored the opponents in the 1st and 3rd periods combined, except today by just one goal. Going back further they've allowed the same in the first period.
They are losing games in single periods. Badly.
I figured that by the way they've been playing the past two weeks that it would be a blowout and they would lose this first game badly. It's either a wake up call, or not. Next game will be a battle, likely 4-3 in OT for Toronto and they win the series. Today was either a wake up call or not.

His style as a hybrid/standup goalie is more frantic to watch than Woll’s butterfly style. I can only imagine that they are going with him because they believe that he can see the puck better with his style of play
