Thank you so much for providing content for this great game. Sadly, my son and I only found the game after it was already discontinued. Content like this helps keep great games alive long after the fat cats pull the plug on the fans. I am finding your video 4 years later. The company has zero content I can find about this product. So glad I found your channel.
We're glad you're here Andrew, Transformers was a lot of fun, we should probably play it again sometime. Break out those huge cards.
The "retro" art is pretty modern, from the recent IDW comics, gents.
Lots of people hating on this game, but once you start adding boosters this game adds a good bit of depth. It overall is not meant to be some high strategy chess style tcg. It's ment to market to a younger audience with a tiny bit of strategy for older players to stay interested. Personally enjoying the game to play casually since it is impossible to find at the moment. There are a good bit of themed decks you can make with crazy card combinations. The hard part for this TCG will be how many other games are all releasing at the same time. Personally feel that this one will fall behind the pack in popularity, but it will continue going similar to Final Fantasy TCG since it has super loyal fans that will collect it. Glad you guys covering it.
Yeah. Believe it or not, I felt the same way about Spellfire.
I can’t find friends to play with me :(
It really reminds me of Vanguard, which is a good thing.
Thanks tc for taking the time to show the game play. This is always appreciated by many regardless of the negative comments on this video.
Thanks Jason!
@@teamcovenant I want the card game
The card Drill arms is from IDW's All Hail Megatron series. Also, AHM is the greatest transformers story ever told.
I think all the small card arts are from idw
I really must disagree with you there. AHM is good but MTMTE is the best transformers story ever told. I own both series so I know.
The character art is from a defunct mobile game, the battle card art is from the past 11 years of comics from their current publisher (transformers was originally published by marvel, but these past 11 years are from IDW).
EDIT: New Character card art has been commissioned for the upcoming expansion this month! This game still has legs!
Thank you Benjamin!
I was just dropping by to say I'd love for you guys to do a recap episode or even a series covering this game since it's gone belly-up. I know you did some unboxing and drafting of some sets but thought it'd be cool to see some more constructed decks based on the expansions or meta when the game was at its peak too, etc. Maybe a trip down memory lane in 5-10 years like you've done with other dead games?
Anyways, thanks for the great tcg content new and old!
Even though it seems very luck based, I like the drawing cards to defend mechanic because it allows for a faster paced attack phase
Just bought some. Saw them at walmart. Give them my support.
I think that this is the physical card game version of the ‘Transformers: Legends’ app that was out back in 2012-2013. *Simple*, but a TOTAL blast.
Maybe! We never got into Legends.
Where did you get those damage tokens?
They are called Cybertronians.
Not all Transformers are from Cybertron though. There are plenty from other planets too 🙂
@@joeygamer5387 the race is called cybertronian though, like windblade is from Caminus but is still a cybertronian. It's only like people from nebulos who aren't
Thanks! I love card games!
Because the character cards are foil, and Hasbro has an awful foiling process, they already have bad problems with curling. I opened a very rare card, and within 24 hours it was curled heavily. With standard sized TCGs, I often put my rare pulls in sleeves to help mitigate this. But because the character cards aren't a standard size (not even tarot sized), there is no plastic sleeve for them to fit in, and this I had to put it inside a book to keep it from curling further.
There are oversized sleeves for them..
Since this comment 2 months ago I've seen videos about certain large hard sleeves, so I guess they do exist. However, it's still kinda messed up that the cards need another product to not curl like that.
@Rhode Island Transformer tcg to some degree, perhaps. But depending on the printer some are very understated. MtG cards just a year ago had really bad curling problems. They swapped printers and it's not as bad anymore. The cards I got from the Transformers TCG had a very pronounced curl shortly after being opened.
Looks like a lot of fun imo, thanks for the great video! :)
Thank you Joey! We are glad you liked them.
The sleeveless riffle shuffle made me die inside
I wanna see you guys play with the titan set, I was luckkky enough to find the Metroplex Set from the Super Walmart in Cinti
And would it be funny if someone did a Yu-Gi-Yo parody animated? ^_^
Auto bots transform and roll out!
What thos the green thing do? Like if you flipt it of attacking.
Hey fellas! Just wondering if you are going to be covering the new Transformers deckbuilding game by Renegade game studios?
I just got this game it's awesome
So ruling question, you said once you run out of cards you shuffle your deck. Does that include the "set aside pile" when you are attacking and you run out of cards when you reveal?
Watching the video, I get the feeling that without the Transformers wrapper this game wouldn't get a mention. Compared to just KeyForge and Warhammer Champions, SW Destiny and not to even mention MtG or the other popular TCGs, gameplay wise it doesn't look like it holds up. It looks ok, playable, but not worth investing any money in, similir to TF video games.
As someone who didn't grow up watching transformers, I have to agree. I watched both this and the booster box stream, and it was really boring to watch. Maybe it is funner to play than to watch, but with so many other good games coming out I don't see what this offers, besides the nostalgia which passes me by. 3 or 4 units on either side trading blows and rolling dice? There doesn't seem to be any drama. Again, maybe it's funner to play - but with keyforge and champions there are so many nice subtleties that you can pick up even if you aren't playing.
The starter is the most insanely vanilla version that can be played. The amount of ways to build a deck around all the different (40) characters is fun and rewarding. This game pleasantly surprised me and move to my current favorite card game to play. Partly because of the speed at which it moves. Obviously, your mileage my vary but I've been playing since MtG came out and this scratches an itch I didn't know I had.
Something to consider is, comparing gameplay here to a more established TCG that has had years of additional card packs and mechanics introduced.. maybe this will improve, I'll try to look at this as the ground floor. If they stick with it and add in more gameplay elements it could be very interesting.
Not really a fan of card games, and nothing I can see here is going to change that.If you are looking for a fun Transformers videogame Valkyriez try Transformers Devastation. Its short, but fun.
I have been playing this game and its a lot of fun. Playing with the starter is not great. Once you make a battle deck and team to your liking it gets better.
Crispy editing and tutorial!
...... Is there A megatron starter Deck?
No but there is a devistator one
So what is the smaller character cards are for? Do you use them like normal character card??
So, if you have a pierce 3 and attack a bot with less than 3 hp, does it say in the rules anywhere where you still have to draw cards for the randomization damage/defense? I suppose you'd still go through the motions because it would still influence the game's future.
Yes! You still have to go through the motions and discard the cards to maintain board state.
When you draw a white special, why are you drawing more cards? Do you get to draw two more if you get a special on the second card drawn?
The first time you draw a white card, you get to draw two more. It's in the basic rules video at the game's main site.
What if I draw my two battle cards when attacking, and then get to draw a 3rd card bc of Bold 1, but get a white "special" on that 3rd card? Do I still get to draw 2 extra cards or does the special ability only occur if drawn in the standard 2 cards?
The first grey pip you flip during at attack lets you flip two additional cards. It doesn't matter if it is in the first two cards or not, as long as it's being flipped as part of the attack.
What determines how many cards u pull per turn when attacking??
For the guns over hand weapons of cybertronians I think I have an answer. Cybertronians having built in weapons is super convenient as you can never forget a weapon or have to reload but there's a huge problem. Built in weapons cannot be detatched so there isn't a lot of mobility options. For example, if you have a sword you can swing it in weird angles depending on how you grip the weapons and with a gun or blaster you can easily swap gun between hands for certain situation of being in a corner or pinned in a wall. Another example comes from Transformers, Rise of the Fallen. This is when Optimus was fighting the Fallen, Megatron and Starscream. Optimus was able to break Megatron's cannon arm and angle it to when the cannon discharged, it shot right into Megatron's face. This means that against a skilled fighter a built in weapon can easily be redirected. In addition it seems much easier to upgrade weapons you can hold as arsenal rather than build an upgrade inside of you.
Perfect answer!
Team Covenant thank you for replying. Your videos are amazing keep it going!!!!
So when it is your turn, You can only flip one card? And is flipping optional?
The official rules say you MAY flip one card, so it is optional to flip (and is part of the strategy) but only one flip per turn.
Funny, I have heard that saying all the time, "candy drops right off the board."
I kinda feel lost without the usual cards pop-up that you guys done for other similar videos. A bit confusing to get around.
Thank you for letting us know!
I still can't believe that a decepticon starter deck doesn't exist. Surely the best way to get anyone into this is to be able to have an autobot vs decepticon battle (including optimus vs megatron) from the start.
There is a decepticon deck now: Devastator Deck. Mine came in the mail yesterday. :)
just wondering but would you ever do/try out bakugan?
What are those tokens, and where can I get some? Please?
At least it's not Austin Powers where you have to have the opposing factions to play.
I like how this game plays. Sad it didn't take off
I wish WotC would have released a revised version of the Battletech CCG from the 90's instead of Transformers :(
That would have been awesome!
i have a draft gameplay for this but I dont know how to contact them or if they are open to suggestions
WotC don't have the rights to BattleTech, they licensed them from FASA. FASA ceased active operations in 2001, and sold the rights to BattleTech, Shadowrun and most of their other licenses to Wizkids. And Wizkids got bought by Topps in 2003 and then sold to NECA in 2009, but Topps retained ownership of FASA's game licenses.
Currently, the rights to publish tabletop games based on BattleTech and Shadowrun is licensed to Catalyst Game Labs, who release a few books and . Given the BattleTech TCG used a variation on Magic's rules, including the trademarked 'tap' logo, it's possible that WotC's intellectual property covers enough of the rules that CGL couldn't just publish a new version of the game, even if they wanted to or could afford to.
But - CGL and WotC have some level of working relationship at the moment, as last year they published a card game called Dragonfire, which was a D&D reskinning and rules update of a recent Shadowrun game called Crossfire. So never say never, I guess?
These were in my local Walmart then they disappeared without a trace and have yet to return. There's not even a single price tag says Transformers tcg
When it comes to upgrades, aren't you allowed to equip different upgrade TYPES, they just can't be of the same type or you have to replace it?
Yes, you can equip one of each type on each character out of 3 types. Those are Weapon, Armor and Utility.
yo, do sell those playmats? ... cuz you should
We do not currently, but we have been getting a lot of feedback about it!
Do the transformers never untap?
Subscribed to your channel. Thanks
I cant find the tokens you are using in your shop. Can you point me to which tokens you are using?
They are actually our Star Wars: Destiny Saga Tokens!
Hey, I love your show and all, but a mistake you made in the tutorial keeps popping up when new players show up at game stores. They seem to get confused about what happens after all characters are tapped and become untapped. Of course, the real way to resolve it is the player who went last ended his turn, and the other player gets to go next. I'm really happy new players get to learn the game through this video, but if you could put some sort of correction in the video or reupload it without the mistake, you would really help a lot of people out! Thanks in advance.
Thanks for letting us know Thomas!
Hey Thomas! We wanted to do everything we can to fix this short of pulling the video. We wrote a short blog about the proper turn sequence and added a card to this video saying as much. Hope it helps, if not, please keep us tuned in!
Hi. I'm want to know if attack is something I must do as per rules, or if I'm able to pass without attacking. Thanks.
Hello Randy! You must attack to end your turn.
@@teamcovenant alright, so you cannot skip that step. Thanks.
Of course! Good luck!
Hello. Got an autobot starter and 6 wave 1 boosters to try the game, but my friend and I don't have the time or opportunity to study and build a deck. I was wondering if anyone has an idea so that we could still play and have fun, without having to prepare the decks? Would just randomizing the characters and battle cards for each work? Can we pile all the battle cards in just one deck and play from there or are there cards and mechanics that make this impossible? Also saw the turbo version of the game but I have to order my boosters online and I think that playing with more than 2 characters might be better. Thank you for the help.
Or is there some kind of quick formula to build a deck? X attack, X defense, X upgrades... so we can just random distribute these cards?
Check out the "Turbo Draft" format - it's our go-to! Crack open two packs each and start drafting.
You could emulate the format even with the cards you've already opened. Build 6 random "packs" (one rare in each), then randomly give each of you two of them, and draft from those cards to build your decks.
So defensive upgrades stay around but offensive upgrades go away after the attack?
top decking as a main mechanic? whoo boy... Vanguard TCG comes to mind... that mechanic really turned me off at first but grown to deal with it.
helps that you shuffle upside down, spot double damage card and force shuffle to top of deck ? (27:45) but hey, it's an informative, casual vid.
Reminds me a bit of UFS’s top decking control checks. And also doomtown you top decked your fighting poker hand so it’s not a wild concept. It can add interesting deck building decisions to include a great card for combat or a great card for its play value.
games like these its best to remember its just for the fun, there's too much win/loss swings due to chance so don't take it as serious as other constructed deck games where you can really limit chance. its more casual than anything really. some skill in it, but no one will deny that even will 100% no mistakes a top deck can ruin you and cost you the game still. I'd even say its the risk of not knowing which makes the game exciting rather than the actual skill involved.
Damage check...critical trigger
Damage check...critical trigger
That feel when this game already has a banned card....
which????
thanks guys
Honestly speaking, This game would've fared so much better as a deck builder, draft, LCG, or Legendary instead of TCG.
I still cannot get how pierce works :(
Pierce is damage that is done regardless of armor. It's guaranteed to hit for whatever the pierce value is. If your pierce value is 2, then you will always do a minimum of 2 damage no matter what.
no matter the cost @@jayking4595
The only thing I'm confused on is tapping
This game looks neat but the character effects look a bit basic.
it's just the first wave so the vanillaness is excusable
The BIGGEST problem here is, like today I sunk another $100 into booster packs I got 8 DUPLICATE cards. Why WotC didnt adopt the idea similar to Star Wars Destiny character Elite,/Base version is beyond me. They could of essentially just implement a rule for each extra copy of the same character can boost a characters health/def/attack by +1 (max of 3) BUT!! COMES TO BALANCING ACT IT WILL COST YOU ONE EXTRA STARS PER. This way would solve so many duplicate character issues. If this keeps up I wouldn't be able to sink at least $100 per wave. This is why I quit SW Destiny...
That's a problem with basically every TCG on some level, it's inevitable.
Huh??? Are you guys playing with the current game?
The game seems kind of Meh! ... I was hoping that with a huge brand like Transformers that they would spend the time to make the game interesting. The battling is similar to the original Star Wars CCG where you flip the top card and add to your strength... I don't mind that too much, but it does remove some skill elements from the game. Also, are all the Bot cards that big? is is that just for the starter set??
I guess we are the brothers in the old guard of alternative CCGs! The decipher Star Wars combat system was the first thing I thought of when I saw this play out. This was actually a consideration when building your deck and played into the balance of the game. If you stacked your deck with powerful cards (when deployed) chances are they had a weak score when drawn for combat resolution, for example, Darth Vader had a 1.
ya you are right... I remember putting in some almost useless cards just because they had a high score!
I have one of the original starter pack for that old star wars card game. are they worth anything today?
Sorry for the late reply, if you haven’t figured it out yet, all the bot cards are that big, Metroplex is even bigger yet, twice the size of a regular bot card
@@generalkenobi2088 I just got the Metroplex deck yesterday. Does anyone have any good recommendations on how to store these beasties?
Oh boy. As a long time fan of transformers and the Pokémon card game this is disappointing. I’m still gonna try it out though.
Give it a try! We are really digging it now.
Still looks more complex than it should be.
you had me till everyone untapped their bots and started talking about first player goes first blah blah, you lost me, wheres my lightning bolt
the card art is just ripped from idw comics and box art
Fresh art is expensive! We see most IP's recycling art often. Maybe if Rise of the Combiners does well we will get some new images. How is Transformers doing at your LGS?
+Team Covenant
idk I watched this video to get a feel for the game but the recycled art is kind of a turn off
@@RobinSwede No worries, you might check out some games without franchises, like Lord of the Rings LCG and Arkham Horror LCG (cooperative) or KeyForge (competitive)!
They don't even look like they're having fun playing the game.
Huh, so TC's added this game to their repertoire. As a TF Fan, I don't like it. It's not the reasons other people have listed, though that's certainly added to it, it's the fact that cards are often specific. For example, a card that only benefits Cars. If it's good, you'll spend a lot of money buying packs looking for Car Characters. It's like how MonPoc 1.0 had problems with its unit boosters. So glad that 2.0 has moved on to non-random distribution, even with everything else that has come with it (assembly, cost....)
Having almost a whole set of the battle cards, a majority really actually don't support just one alt type! I'd say at least 70% of the battle cards benefit all bots.
The honest mistake at 22:26 probably should have caused you to a do-over and re-record, IMHO.
Why? Who wins doesn't matter in the least. This is a teaching video.
well thats a 40 min teaching video where they played wrong. i can see the argument for re-record. I think its not necessary but the argument stands.
Eh, it was a fairly minor mistake that only affects a small portion of the game. (For example, it's not like playing some rule wrong every turn that compounds every time they make that mistake) The clarification is enough.
you might be right.
+Yudon Mesd'upt Because it speaks to their professionalism.
This looks really bad
Auto bots roll out!
@@h.l.malazan5782 well, I'm Russian. Jury's out on Bot part though xD

Refused is quite the word. We looked at Munchkin.
Team Covenant at a pre release event I talked to Hunter and he said Steve Jackson games reached out to you directly and you said that munchkin tcg wasn’t something you were interested in. It just surprises me what games different stored choose to support.
