  • During World War Two Remington supplied a large number of Model 11 semi-auto shotguns to the US Military. These were typically issued to non-front line forces. Military Police, truck drivers, occupation forces, ect.
    Much later the majority of these were sold as surplus and/or sold by way of DCM.

      @@1957Shep. Hello Shep. I’m late to your video 4th party, but I appreciate the tour of your gun!
      Mou23 was referring to Kurt Cobain of Nirvana fame, who ironically took his own life with a shotgun.
      I’ve got my late Dad’s Model 11, with an 11-A barrel. It’s got a checked fore grip, but has a USN cartouched smooth stock. It’s a long barrel 1914 I believe.
      I’m going to get replacement furniture for it so as to not destroy my Dad’s original parts. Your fore grip is a looker, as is the whole gun.
      Stay safe my friend!
      Best Regards,
      Shawn

    I bought a model 11 from a gun show a few years back and crazy story to this is I took the butt plate off and inside the stock it has a 1947 Illinois duck hunting license inside the stock. I thought that was so neat and gave the gun a story. Mine was a very early model in great shape I used it duck hunting many times

    My grandfather has one of these; I looked up on the serial number chart and it was manufactured 1927-1948; though being in the 40000X range it was most likely during the 30’s. Though my grandfather was born during the 40’s I don’t think the gun saw much action…But I like to think he used it during his time in the USMC.

    First off, nice shotgun. The model 11 was also used by the mil with longer "sporting style" barrels with Cutts compensators. These were utilized for shooting clay pigeons in anti-aircraft training to teach the principles of leading aircraft to flak gunners and such. Some versions of the model 11 have the safety inside of the trigger guard, right in front of the trigger (a real safety issue).

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  Před 8 měsíci

      Using slugs in shotguns depends on what type of choke that particular gun barrel has and what type of slug you intend to use. Ideally, you should only use slugs in guns that have a Cylinder bore (C) choke or Improved Cylinder (I/C) choke. You can probably get away with firing slugs in guns with tighter chokes, but I really don`t recommend it.

      @jcg5571 Před 4 lety

      I believe all of the Model 11 shotguns ordered by the military had standard (approx 24-28”) length barrels and a Cutts Compensator. This is why you see so many with the barrels cut. I think most assume the comp was added later. No “riot” model 11’s were purchased as far as my research shows. These were used as aerial training, and were often attached to a device to be fired like aircraft guns. Not a lot on the internet, but you should be able to find a photo of them set up for aerial trainer firing.

    I’m late for this video and in need of a little help but I found a model 11 for 200$ the blueing is a little wore but the stock looks to be refinished and no cracks would this be a good buy and what red flags should I look for when looking it over?

    • @1957Shep
      @1957Shep  Před 3 lety +1

      That`s probably about average price for a basic model 11 in the condition you describe. Almost anything that will go bang will bring $150-$200. And model 11 Remingtons are very good quality guns. They are basically a Browning A5 that can be had for less than half the price of a Browning.
      Things to watch out for. Make sure the action cycles smoothly. Make sure the loading gate is not bent.
      Other things that are not easy to check without firing are the magazine spring and the gas system. But if there is anything wrong with either, it`s likely an easy and cheap fix. A mag spring can be replaced for a few dollars. If there is a problem with the gas system, it likely just needs a good cleaning.
