    I actually watched this video then left to do something else and decided to come back just to comment. All videos are usually quite chatty or music in the background. BUT..listening to the birds, and natural noise of life on the farm was awesome! This video was a day in the life of the Rhodes family to me, thank you for changing it up! Love this!

    My rabbit had a litter of 8 a little over 2 weeks ago. The only portion of the cage NOT covered in hardware cloth was the floor of the nest area. A rat chewed through the wood and dragged 2 kits under the cage and ate them before I found the hole. I stapled hardware cloth over the floor. Mama rabbit had stomped and broke one kits back during the assault. Down to 5 fat sassy babies. Both my does have been rebred yesterday. Hoping for a better result now the cage is rat proof!! Sandra WestleyUK, so glad the rabbits are on grass, which it what normal rabbits do, it’s taken so long to those rabbits on the land. Most rabbits here in the UK are kept as pets, they normally have a hutch with straw in for night time and a door on the hutch which leads to a run set out by chick wire as you have done, I had one a a pet as a child, we didn’t keep them in pens off the ground, so glad to see where they should be, they will love it, I used to walk the lanes collecting dandelions and bags of long grass for them.

      Might be because rabbits are burrowing animals and this would keep them from digging holes. The can dig a tunnel fairly quickly. They might even be able to burrow out of the hare pen and escape. Maybe. I’m just guessing.

    • @anna7118
      @anna7118 Před 2 lety

      Rabbits burrow. I had a pet one when I was young and the cage we would put it in to get it out on grass had a hole in one corner of the wire…the rabbit almost got out before we fixed it and he was only in that cage on nice days as it was just a wire cage without a metal roof. (We were just re-using cages that we had on the farm from when my mom had previously raised meat rabbits in a barn.)
      The downside of cages with wire bottoms is they press the grass down more flat when set directly on the ground. With the slats more of the grass pokes up through the floor.
