I personally feel that while some aspects have certainly improved, others are going backwards and causing harm to the overall landscape. Stick around to learn why modern gaming "sucks".

most AAA games nowadays are more concerned with recurrent monetization and build the game to make you want to spend money, rather than "you pay money for the game to have fun". Then you have live service games where even if you dont buy any MxT's, it feels more like a second job than a game.

Since starting college i have learnt how important it is for a game to be finished. When you are in high school you typically don't have responsibilities outside of maybe walking the dogs every now and then. But since i have a job now and college becomes a struggle, i simply do not have the time or patience to play an unfinished game or even listen to the drama surrounding the industry.
I also fell out with my online friend group largely due to the fact that they would spend days on end playing games like overwatch without doing any studying for college, they would also treat me like i was an idiot for criticising a game for any bugs or glitches and they were so dense to the point that they justified battlefield 2042's broken release.
This hobby has run its course for me as the community seems so divided and draining of one another. I hope i can enjoy it again but as i sit here typing this, my console is in the wardrobe.

We can thank ourselves for many of the current issues and problems with gaming. Very few fought the changes when they came and we have done nothing to stop it since. We already saw the beginning of this around 2010.
The AAA(A) bubble is leaking and more people are playing or buying older games. Even cutting down on playtime. Also, the number of games released (big and small) is insane. Nobody has the time to play that many games. Yet, we see more greedy pricing and monetization like there is no tomorrow. We do still see good Indie games coming out and they are worth playing.
While the situation here in 2024 ain't the same as the big video game crash of 1983, it's safe to say that we will see many more IPs and devs crash and burn from here on out.

One of the most accurate statements that I've heard on the state of modern gaming was said by Allanah Pierce a few weeks ago when she said: "You are not the customer. You are a consumer of the product but you are not the customer. The shareholders are the customers."
She wasn't trying to disrespect gamers. Far from it, she is very disappointed that this is the reality. And while I kinda overall knew this to be the truth before, hearing it with this choice of words just made it click a lot more to me. I agree with what you say that not all gaming is doom and gloom nowadays. But for those areas where it does go downhill in terms of quality of the product, I think this right there is the number one reason. The big publishers just don't see us as customers anymore. We are only there to consume the product (meaning to pay for the full price and/or microtransactions etc.) so that their actual customers are happy. Yes, we are just as essential in the equation as the actual developers are but just as with the developers the publishers don't give a damn on how we actually feel. They don't aim to please us. We are just a tool to them to make their shareholders happy.

I understand the sentiment from this video as it mainly pertains to online based gaming, I just have to make an addendum regarding EULA agreement, as the customer hasn't signed to any of it when they purchase the game from any store shelf, or even from a digital front end (as far as I'm aware), I'm saying this in relation to the current situation going on with the crew 1's closure of it's servers, and the aftermath of it still ensuing, as there's a chance Ubisoft could be respectfully violating international laws with some of their recent moves when it comes to their digital library, double so if they don't even allow people to download the game's files to their systems any longer, preventing the chance of someone making an offline patch to a once always online only game.
And lets not even get to the sensitive subject matter of politics being injected into our entertainment forms of media, as the stuff that's being inserted right now doesn't belong in a medium filled with people that just wanna unwind after a stressful day either at work or at school just so they could have an evening where they can have fun either by themselves, or with friends in their game of choice, and they'd rather not wanna hear about current day issues quite frankly.
I'd hate to be that guy, but in relation to what you said about gaming being more noticed from the 7th generation of consoles onwards, it has also led to a large group of people not knowing to vote with their wallets, thus letting these large companies get away with the stuff that they're doing, and that they've been doing over the course of the last decade or so, which has also resulted in a notable decline in the quality of these products lately, which is why some games made by smaller studios (such as palworld as you mentioned) suddenly feel refreshing to play, and like you said, with the advent of the internet, it has also allowed companies to notice some louder voices, some of which from folks who don't even like video games anyways, and yet they want their preaching to be constantly heard.
The TL;DR of my whole rant is: There's still crumbs of hope for this beloved medium, but it's becoming a bubble slowly about to burst if something isn't done about it, and that's the moral of the story here

I agree with most of what you said and wish I could agree with all. The part about consumers deserve better and there are the same amount of idiots now compared to the past, just now the Internet makes them louder.
I used to blame the publishers for their infestation of greedy mobile micro transactions in our console games, but the consumers have proven that they'll take up the rear by constantly filling these CEOs bank accounts. The Star Wars Battlefront community opened my eyes how quick these so called fans give up. The CoD community cry and complain every year, but still nothing changes because they throw their credit cards at them willing which is why CoD's the top selling multiplayer game every year.
The Star Wars Battlefront community doesn't have a game they can fall back on every year when one sucks. They've been starving for a good Star Wars multiplayer game for a decade. So when EA thought it was a good idea to milk their fan base by throttling the grind to unlock heroes, that starving community put their foot down and started refunding in massive amounts which got Disney involved to make changes to the game. Now that's what will power looks like.
As for as the Internet being a mega phone for idiots I've said the same as you, but when I met younger people in real life they're lazier, more rude, and less grateful then when I was younger. I believe social media has conditioned them to feeling entitled and self absorbed.

Despite their problems, dmca legal teams and sucky business decisions we don't like we thankfully have Nintendo, Sega, Capcom, bandai namco, insomniac games and Larian Studios. (Correct me if there's more studios like them)

The reason why modern gaming sucks is because it’s all about greed and not great gameplay or great graphics like they have in the older games thing is games are rushed, and most of them are so buggy and lag. You can’t even play them. Another thing is the micro transactions and you have to subscribe to even play the game that cost money as well. Another thing is, they will remake the game and swap a lot of characters or sensor a lot of stuff that were supposed to make the game fun and another thing Is that you can’t buy it on physical copies all these companies want you to subscribe and that cost money and the price will keep on going up and that’s another reason why people are pirating stuff now another thing is they virtue signal every part of the way and they basically tell you you can’t use the mods on the game to make it better or change stuff

Modern AAA games are both progressing and regressing. Honestly it depends on the studio. Capcom is significantly better today than they were 15 years ago. They've had one or two faults recently but most of their games are great. Squeenix is also doing better as well despite their recent dumb decisions. They have some great games they've released recently. Nintendo is Nintendo so I don't feel like they're much different. EA is one big mixed bag. Sometimes they put out great games like Titanfall 2, Fallen Order, and Jedi Survivor, other times they make the Fifa games. Ubisoft is in a similar boat but overall they're overall worse than they were 15 years ago. Sony in some ways is better and worse, they lack the variety they had in games 15 years ago but today most of their games are built to an extremely high standard with them often times having the best looking games of the year. Konami is well Konami, they have been in a downward spiral for a while especially with what they did to Kojima. Xbox is in an odd spot where they have some nice smaller games but these past few years have had some of their studios screwing up.
I personally hate this overly negative view of modern gaming. Things weren't as great as people make them seem back then. We forget about the broken and poor performance of games back then either because of the improvement in PC hardware brute forcing past the issues or people not playing older consoles. There is so much variety in the number of games sold today that boiling down gaming to just the broken AAA games is disingenuous. Back then we didn't just define the older consoles by what just the big studios were doing, we also considered all the smaller titles releasing as well.

progression and regression are a false dichotomy in this context there is only relative positioning to claim that there is progression or regression is to imply an end goal that gaming is either working towards or against when the reality of the situation is more so "i dont have fun with new games like i do old games" and it cant be explained away with nostalgia when im playing games for the first time that happen to be old there is a clear diffrence in quality just because i cant perfectly verbalize the issue or a solution doesnt mean either dont exist

Your Pros list doesn't really hold up imo. The first 5 are basically just repeating that crossplay exists and we have mods, even though mod tools aren't anything we've gained in recent years. It's actually on a decline since most companies are becoming more restrictive with what modders have access to. With everything being online only you rarely get to see the level of mods from older titles like Doom, or Halo CE. Yeah I guess better graphics are nice but if your game is bad it doesn't really matter. Vampire Survivors shows you could look awful like an old SNES game and still put out something that first of all fun. And preserving the past I would absolutely disagree on entirely. Everything is online, if the servers shut down the game doesn't exist. Consoles have no backwards compatibility, and the games are often so locked up with DRM that it's really difficult to archive anything. Not to mention all these re-releases coming out are often unplayable. MCC took years before it was playable and we're lucky it ever was. I'm sorry but this really feels like copium and ignores the reality of the situation.

@@TuneFormal83 rdr2 set the standard to high that aaa games have these billion dollar budgets so they could be on par with it. these billion dollar budgets are the reason why gaming had less variety, making new games boring. because they have to make a profit over these massive budgets so publishers have to play it safe by only making movie games and remakes

You are wrong. You admited you try to be positive which is and admission of trying to be biased. Its easy to test whether old games were better and it is to simply play them. Most of them are better. Hands down. When wow classic was released it became more popular than retail modern version which again confirms my theory and not yours. The attempt at staying poisitive i feel is rooted in some misguided idea that as technology improves the created games must become better. This is falacious as one does not follow the other at all. It also does not follow that since the game is not "new" its worse than a new game. Games dont become bad just because new games come out. people who like chess obsess over it and play it with joy even tho its an extremely old game. Vegas profits from games of chance and cardgames which were around for hundreds of years. Videogames are no difrerent.
