Gaudio always remembers what happened the night before this match. At the time, he was dating a beautiful actress/model from Argentina called Marcela Kloosterboer, and this is what he said in a radio interview:
“I reached the semifinals and the night before the match I got a call from a radio show. It turns out that in this particular show there was a woman with whom I had some sort of romantic relationship in the past. We had the interview, I said a couple of stupid things, you know, just nonsense to have a good laugh. That was the interview. After that I called Marcela (his girlfriend at the time), and all hell broke loose! My match was scheduled for 11:00 AM: it was already 3:00 AM and we were still arguing over the phone! By 4:00 AM the conversation was over, but my head was all over the place. I felt terrible about what just happened, I couldn’t understand her, her reaction over a simple comment on a radio show half a planet away! In retrospective, I just can´t believe how stupid I was. Of course, the next day I was tired and completely out of focus…”
And this is Marcela Kloosterboer's version when asked about this: “I was right to call him because he disrespected me, and I didn’t give a sh*t about his opponent or his match. So what if he was going to play against Federer or whatever player? I didn’t care about the match, he had to answer some questions to me, because in public he was kind of a show off and then he was like “I’m sorry babe…” when he was alone with me. I didn’t like that attitude.”

When I first saw Roger playing (as a junior) I thought: this guy can’t hit a backhand, he’ll never be world no. 1. But then when I played him he would win all the big points. Somehow whenever I needed to win a point I would lose it but when he needed to win a point he would win.

And you have to consider this was the 2004 RG champion, folks. Also Roger played in 2005 TMC at the last moment, as he was still recovering from a foot injury that had took him out of competition that fall. That how good Roger was in those years, that's how good he was against the main rivals of his generation. And for any retards with "weak era" remarks, (cause i can feel them already), keep in mind that Gaudio is the only guy apart from Roger that gave a bagel on clay to Rafa, which happened in 2005 Buenos Aires, to my knowledge. @@mrgrimm53 it wasn't his nerves in the 2019 final. It's just what happens. Every point had to be played and it was just Djokovic who won these points. It's almost 60:40 chance on this level that the server wins the point, so it's simply possible that a player loses some points in a row on his own serve. Additionally to that Nole played these points better than average so that's what happens after.
