      LOVE that! Amon got 20+ smaller scholarships that paid for his entire undergrad! The small scholarships add up quick AND less people tend to apply for them because they don't think it's worth it. Now that we're done with college, we just get to share the info with others! Thanks for watching! :)

    That Modern States shoutout is about to change my life. THANK YOU. After doing a year of dual enrollment, I only completed five additional college classes. I've been living on my own since and navigating too many things independently. I couldn't fathom adding college debt to my stress, so I avoided it. Now I know I can dip my toe back into class TOTALLY FREE to start 💗

    I graduated Iowa State University this Spring with zero debt and was able to save over $8,000 invested for retirement. I did all this without taking a dime from my parents.
    My story:
    -Start at Community College (two years)
    -Worked 20hrs + a week
    -Received tuition assistance from my company
    -Applied for every scholarship & honor society available
    -Lived extremely frugally with lots of roommates off campus.

    Great video. I got my bachelors degree and my MBA for free. The first one I got through something called the Trade Adjustment Assistance program. The very short version is if you lose your job and that job goes overseas you can apply for it and they will pay for you to be "retrained" including college up to 2 and a half years and $30,000. I got my MBA for free because the company I worked for offered tuition reimbursement up to $10,000 a year.

    I had my masters degree for free that was paid by a former employer. Earning the degree for free doubled my salary earnings, and now I have a cushy job where I work 20-30 hours a week making about 6 figures. No joke! I treat my job as passive income. It's a travel job, and with COVID, I haven't been traveling but still have a job. I do Shipt on the side and don't pay for gas or insurance, because the company gives me a free car! My point is make your money work for you, not the other away around.

Did you happen to live in an area with great public schools, did you have to move to access those good public schools or did you go private (before you retired)? Our public schools are not good so we’re trying to decide whether to do private (and see it as well-worthy investment) or move to a better school district. What’s your insight?

    I knew you could take CLEP exams for college credit but I certainly didn't know you that you could get financial aid to do so! 😍

    What about scholarship for second degree programs.

    • @OurRichJourney
      @OurRichJourney  Před 5 lety +2

      Many of these are also available for second degrees. For instance, my employer paid for my Masters Degree and Christina received scholarships for Law School at UCLA.

    The CLEP exams is just one? Or is one for each course you plan to skip and is the $87 a one time fee or for each CLEP exam? What is the website for this??

    • @OurRichJourney
      @OurRichJourney  Před 5 lety +2

      The fee is per test. Clep site: clep.collegeboard.org/. Modern States, which pays the fee for students (and pays for the student to take a course to study for each exam) is: modernstates.org/.

      Research MOOC. Great way to get the knowledge of a class then you can CLEP. MOOC - massive open online courses. Coursea; edX etc. Free online course. You could actually take classes here then take the CLEP exam if it is available for the courses you took. You can also pay and receive some certifications when done with the training.

    How about scholarships for people over 50 or even 55? I love your videos but you are missing a whole group in your videos... seniors. There are a huge group... predominately women who wind up divorced over 50(u know all the 30 yr old gold diggers who target well off married men in their sixties). These 50 something women wind up divorced with money in retirement accounts that they can't touch for 10 to 15 years, living off alimony which often times is under 40,000 a year. If 50 percent of marriages end in divorce this group is a large percentage of that. No one out there (that I can find) is providing financial advice or emergency financial advice for this group. Also, typically this group is age discriminated against and can't find work. Just a thought my friends. ❤
