  • How to GUARANTEE Beating Whitney in a HGSS Hardcore Nuzlocke
Hardcore Nuzlocke generally considers the first 8 gym badges for a nuzlocke because the latter 8 are too easy, which is why I didn't include it.
My second time making a nuzlocke video :), let me know if you like this stuff and I should keep doing it
the tldr is find a way to guarantee a particular pokemon

In the original Gold, Silver and Crystal I just used the Fury Cutter TM that Bugsy gives you. It gets stronger against the Cleffairy, and then OHKOs the Miltank. In the remakes, yeah... It was a bad time.

    • @N12015

Which is funnily enough the same strat speedrunners use, since they need fury cutter for Bayleef anyways and is more reliable than rage.

In the original ghastly was an automatic win v.s miltank as no scrappy and curse will kill miltank since they have to rollout to hit ghastly, slight less reliable in hardcore as ghastly might die to rollout but not super likely dont think.

I learned recently in my nuzloche that Exeggcute is a decent counter to Miktank as well, with access to Leech Seed and high defense which can be boosted higher with Reflect.
To my knowledge this is the only Pokemon with access to Leech Seed before the level cap of 19, and due to Miltanks naturally high HP stat you will be recovering off a lot of the damage she inflicts every turn.
Exeggcute can be found headbutting trees on Route 34, 35, and 36 to name a few, so you can guarantee it as well before Whitney with similar planning.

In normal Game Play Bayleef is surprisingly useful (it's very weak to unwanted Crit(. Especially if it's a female one, since it allows to negate Attract.
Bayleef has two amazing moves by that point: Reflect and Growl. They can also heal themselves with Synthesis. Reflect simply cut all physical damage by two, and Growl diminish Miltank's Attack even further. So eventually, excluding a Crit, it will eventually do barely any damage.
Sadly Bayleef can't do much damage, the best option would be to try to hit two Poison Powder (since it has a Lum Berry on the Remake). But switching on your team powerhouse is a better option.
Clearly not as efficient, but since it's one of the rare time Chikorita really can shine, it's worth noting.

The thing is, Ubers isn't formed like regular tiers. Regular tiers are formed through usage and BL is formed through bans from lower tiers, so an UUBL for example means "not used enough to be OU but too strong for UU". Ubers on the other hand is defined as "too strong for OU". To be in a BL a mon has to be too strong for its lower tier but not enough usage for the next higher usage based tier, but since there is no usage based tier over OU, that means that Ubers essentially is OUBL.

I’m on my fifth attempt of my first nuzlocke right now and Whitney has taken me from 0 or 1 deaths to restarting four times in a row already. My only other deaths so far have been one intentional sacrifice and one crit Ember from the Magmars right outside the city. I was only able to get the trade Machop twice thanks to bad encounter luck-the first time she flinched every single turn she was out, and the second time she got to attack once before being crit by Stomp.
Two of my starters have been OHKO’d by Stomp crits (one of them on turn 1 😭). On my best attempt I had a Nidorino that got two defense drops off with Rock Smash but the Miltank just heals and it’s all for nothing.
I’ve written out pages and pages of strategy ideas using Static, wasting her Lum Berry as early as possible, Flash, Leer, Synthesis, Encore, having multiple high crit chance moves on the team, defense drops-but none of it means _anything_ when I’m going 4, 5, 5+ turns in a row without being able to move at all. And Miltank seems to crit with stomp a LOT. 3 times in an 8 turn battle where my Razor Leaf hasn’t crit once yet? 😬
I’m incredibly frustrated and now I just don’t think I’m attempting this battle again without the Heracross encounter. I haven’t gotten it yet but maybe if I start using dupes clause something will change. Thank you sm for this!

Like for instance, in Pokemon GO there are three main leagues, Great, Ultra, and Master League divided by the total CP of a Pokemon. Due to how pvp works sites like Pvpoke can determine how overall useful things can be. For example in Ultra League, Registeel is ranked as a #1 overall Pokemon due to the sheer amounts of 1v1s it can win.

The only other two pokemon that you can get in Dark Cave is Geodude and Zubat which are really common in places like Union Cave, Slowpoke well and Route 46. And, while setting up on Clefairy is risky, it's not at all hard to get 6 defense curls on Clefairy (especially if you put Clefairy to Sleep with any mon with Sleep Powder from Ilex or Gastly's Hypnosis), use Glare, use Rage to get a few attack buffs, glare Whitey's Miltank twice (once to get rid of Lum Berry) and she's yours for the taking

it pretty much beats miltank clean at +2 speed

Tip: I don't know if there's a better pokemon for it, but ledian is actually useful for the elite 4. Will is a bit to risky for it to be consistent, and I had a counter for koga so I didn't try it there, but basically, ledian is a good support for swords dance substitute baton pass, and it gets early bird, making healing with rest better. Bruno can basically do nothing to ledian with his lead, and for Karen, thinking back if ledian was faster I could've probably set up directly against the umbreon, but what I did was lead with my miltank to bait out her gengar. Which can basically do nothing to my ledian because it's moveset is garbage. I don't know if any pokemon is really a better option for the elite 4, but as a point on that hardcore nuzlocke, let me just mention that I really should've prepared for Lance better. Only dragonite died but it was still a big risk

Certain encounters in monotypes can be life savers like the 50% Water Absorb Wooper I got (because I let the rival pick Totodile) and Sandshrew, which in my opinion can probably Solo the entire game if you're patient enough to give Atk and Sp investment, and access to Swords Dance and Substitute in Goldenrod. Set up against Clefairy and sweep with Dig or Fight-Type Natural Gift, Shadow Claw Morty's team, Aerial Ace Chuck's team and by this point you probably get Yawn Quagsire which helps immensely.
The Normal Type run was decent, a lot mid niche Pokemon except Taurus and Miltank. And then some real powerhouses Post-Game like Snorlax and the Togekiss you'd be able to evolve.

I had Sand Attack and Flash on all 4 of my attempts of this so far and it really hasn’t helped much yet. Once she lands one Attract, it’s over whether or not you risk switching out into a Stomp. On the attempts where I got a little luckier with her missing she still just heals if you get any decent damage off.
Lowering accuracy _can_ help but it doesn’t make this fight exactly manageable!

    • @gregburden416
      @gregburden416 Před 2 lety +2

Paralysis is useless compared to poison or burn. It halves the speed of the Pokémon and has the chance to make them unable to move. Those traits are undesirable compared to the damage from poison and burn. For Pokémon with abilities like Guts, Quick Feet and Magic Guard (which utilize status conditions) burn and poison is infinitely better solely because the don’t hinder their speed and they are guaranteed to move.
