  • In this video, Bill & Mike explore a variety of different code readers that have been accumulated over the years. Some work better than others, in this video we aim to find the one that's easiest to use and includes definitions for all of the Sprinter specific codes.
    Honorable mention of course is the Nautabox which is an amazing diagnostic tool on its own.

    However, for the Sprinter owner just starting out who maybe wants to diagnose other vehicles too we would recommend the AP200 or the iCarsoft MBII.

    Hey Guys, sure glad I stumbled onto your channel. I have three 2006 T1Ns in various running states….subscribed👍. I am going to buy an Autel 200 per your recommendation. I have iCarsoft i980, and I can’t go deeper past basic OBII and data streams.
    My issue on my best van is being stuck in 1st gear LHM. 230k mi, and I am 95% it is from being cheap on a new set of tires, buying/mounting 2 new rears to get a few 1000 more miles out of the fronts instead of mounting 4 new. Issue is the old fronts are 225/75 and new rears are 245/75. Everything was fine, but within the 100mi I was getting wheel speed sensor codes and ABS codes, less engine/wheel braking in certain situations. Shortly after, I reset these 3-4 times, it is stuck in 1st, with hard shifts in/out of park/drive/reverse and I cannot reset it. I believe it has tripped a transmission fault code and my current scanner can’t reset that. I thought my only option was dealer diagnostic tool, but closest is 30mi away and not safe/easily reachable when I am limited to 25mph at 3000rpm.
    Will the Autel 200 be able to reset transmission fault codes?

    Man, this channel is amazing! Instant sub' from me. I live in the UK and have a 208cdi 2001. My EDC light came on and shut the engine off completely just as I was on the motorway (brown trouser moment). I have since replaced the crank and cam sensors, dropped the fuel tank and inspected the sender and replaced the fuel lines. I replaced the old electric plug connections to the injectors and have whittled the problem down to somewhere between the low pressure pump and injectors. I recently had the high pressure pump rebuilt just before this problem happened so I am guessing they did a crap job of it and it just isn't pumping at high enough pressure. Some fuel is getting to the injectors because I cracked one of the high pressure injector lines open and fuel was hissing out right at the injector but no fuel leak off come from the return ports on the injectors. I performed the leak off test and nothing comes. I tried easy start spray and a shit-load of cranking to try and shift any air locks but the problem persists. It's been two months now and it's really getting me down. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do next before I resort to spending £££££'s on a new pump? I am going to replace the fuel pressure regulator valve on the back end of the rail tomorrow but I really don't think that's the problem. I watched your video on no start trouble shooting and tried everything you suggest. I've tried swapping the relays under the seat. I've check the ECU connections. The batter is hooked up to a 150w solar panel and is always fully charged so tons or cranking power. It just turns and turns and sometimes tries to fire but can't. It does put some noticable exhaust out so I am thinking low pressure fuel... Any help dearly received.

    • @FloridaVanMan
      @FloridaVanMan  Před 3 lety +2

      Yours is a bit different from ours in the US. Sounds like you are onto the common culprits, fuel rail and low pressure issues. You've determined it is not excess leak off from an injector so kinda has to be rail or pump. Can also try clamping the rail return line, then start the van. If it starts, I wouldn't run long like that or excess pressure may blow a soft line.

    Thanks for the videos. I learned a bit. My 2006 van with 39,.000 miles stopped running in the parking lot yesterday. I ran through your checklist of common no start items and pulled a fuel line to verify fuel moving though the filter. Fuses and relays are good and click. The tachometer bounces on cranking. She cranks but no start. A local shop wants to replace the pump and some injectors. I asked them to check synchronize of the cam shaft sensor and that reports synchronizing. Have I overlooked anything to test or rule out before replacing the pump?

    • @FloridaVanMan
      @FloridaVanMan  Před 3 lety +2

      YES! Swapping parts before reading codes with a proper meter is throwing darts in the dark. Many of our video descriptions have links to the AP200 code reader. First, find out what codes are kicking. If you have fuel pressure codes you want to do a leak-back test to determine which injector is allowing fuel returning to the tank too easily. Only if all injectors pass with little to no fuel in the little hoses... then replace the expensive fuel pumpczcams.com/video/aB4d8xyZwU8/video.html&pp=sAQA

      Autel AP200 has been my preferred code reader for 3 to 4 years. I have not really needed them to answer emails, although it would have been nice a time or three. The biggest trouble I've had with my only AP200 is leaving it in other people's vans. Many folks have had success calling them. I've not had concerns worth that much time on the phone.

    Great videos!!!! I am in California and I need your advise. I bought a month ago a 2004 T1N 2500 sprinter.... My problem is that randomly will start or will not start out of nothing...for instance, I turned the ignition key in the morning and worked .... later the day in the afternoon It wouldn't start. There are times when I stop for Diesel turn off the van and It wont start. there is a 1900 below the wrenches icon..... any suggestions?

    • @FloridaVanMan
      @FloridaVanMan  Před 4 lety +1

      Won't start as in click nothing happens or no start as in it cranks forever but doesn't ever start? If it's click and nothing happens, it could be your starter or a poor battery ground. If it cranks forever and doesn't want to start, it could be a fuel related issue OR it could be the extremely common camshaft position sensor or crankshaft position sensor. The scanner should help you narrow down where the problem is. We have a video on replacing the camshaft position sensor that shows where you need to be in the scanner (Drive Authorization) to check the Cam & Crank signals syncing.
      The 1900 below the wrenches icon is just the built in Assyst telling you you're due for an oil change soon. It's not a common add-on for our Sprinters, in fact for the longest time no dealership knew how to reset it. I believe a negative -1900 would mean that you are 1900 miles past due for an oil change. Positive 1900 means you have 1900 miles until you're due.

    • @FloridaVanMan

      Could be loose/bad ground or the whole steering column fuse box is bad. We have seen the entire fuse box go bad. At the same time you replace the steering column fuse box, you should check, clean, replace if necessary the two grounds. One attaches to the fuel filter base and the other is the negative battery wire.

      Yes, ELM327 is generic only. Our vans don't use generic OBD protocol so even the codes ELM327 displays are incorrect. Some of them may be close enough, but others will be wildly wrong. Specifically, you can choose either #2 (901.6....) or #3 (YD...) at 9:45 in your video. Yes, I always used YD.... because I recognized part of my VIN in that selection. Mike always used 901.6... because he recognized the numbers from his reading about the vans. in time we found Mike's selection was more successful in reading/clearing the transmission codes and maybe better with the "live-data".
