Sprinter Van Engine Covers

The plastic engine cover serves a purpose. Too many folks online promote the idea of leaving this cover off so they can inspect for injector seal leaks easily. They don't talk about the rusty ring around the injector shaft or the difficulty they will have trying to remove injectors after this lazy excuse for minimal maintenance. If you can't put all 7 bolts back in 2 will be enough. Make it two...

The product is OK-ish, but the customer service totally sucks and the shipping price was DOUBLED after they processed payment, demanding an additional $102 or process a refund that could take 30 days ...and likely forgotten. Any tips on where to source the three bolts between the turbo and exhaust manifold. Broke one during the removal process and having a tough time finding a replacement.
Love that little thing.
Great job as usual BRAVO 👏
Just found one 2006, 130k only problem seam in roof leaking $10k after watching this I’m good with it , thanks for all you do (very well I might add 💪)
We need to all chip in and buy FVM a DJI wireless mic. Works perfectly with iPhone. No more wind noise. $100

Dang that’s nice !
anyone in the uk can do this for me??
lol game reset buton
👏👏👏👏👏
Nice van, i'm wondering why do recommend to change the turbo resonator if it is in a good condition? I have a perfectly running plastic turbo resonator , do you recommend to change it?
My OEM resonator just failed at 180K+ miles. I replaced it with a Dorman plastic. Should have gone aluminum. A fifth the price and done.
They are easier to change at home and once aluminum is installed it will never be a problem. Don't over-pay! I buy them in bulk and give them to new members* at events. I can ship one as a member perk if you join with annual payment and message me saying you want one.
They are priced all over the map. I buy them in bulk for less than $5ea. and give them to members of our support group.
Nice van.
Nice video
Earl Scheib does detailing now? Great video!
Hey Mike, where did you get your service manual? I’m trying to locate one for a 2008 e320. Also, is there a reliable forum you use similar to the Sprinter Forum? I’m finding it a bit problematic to find. Cheers, Tommy.
Dam thought this would fix my problem but it just keep popping off every time I re seat it.
Thanks
Charge that battery !
0000 steel wool with ospho is amazing!
How do you get one ??? Thx !
You'd need to time-travel to get one now, or find a used one that somebody is willing to part with. They were made by an individual working from his garage.
@FloridaVanMan lol ok !! I will pull my time machine out of the shed !!
Howdy Florida Van Man and everyone else! I've got a 2005 T1N dodge sprinter 2500 and it has that lock unlock, lock unlock lock symptom. With mine the passenger door and passenger side sliding door wont lock when I try and lock the van using the fob or central locking button on the dash. I have to physically unlock and lock them with a key or from inside the cab. I tried all the methods in your video inlcuding thorouhgly cleaning all of the contacts, do you have any other recommendations for me to try? Not sure if this is helpful at all but the inside door panel for the passenger sliding door is a wood panel so the previous owner definitely replaced the original cloth/vinyl panel, this is a passenger style van.
If everything is lubricated and the door handle twitches but doesn't lock/unlock, the locking drive motor is likely tired and needs replaced.
@@FloridaVanMan Thanks for the prompt response! No twitching or noise coming from them when i hit the lock or unlock button. I guess I should look into door lock actuator switch then yes?
Regarding your comments at the end, isn't moving up to 2000 RPM, and thus no longer "idling," solving those issues? Or is it that the engine needs to be at those RPM and under significant load (more than charging a house battery) to solve those issues? It seems to me that your concerns are exactly why you would install a high-idle kit.
Raising the idle without adding a load is still "idle", just a higher idle. It still presents all but one of the troubles with extended idle, and faster!
What year is that e320? I have a 2008 e320 and a 2005 t1n! Do you know the torque value of the drain plug on the 320? I stripped mine a few oil changes ago and I’m gunshy now. The dealer sold me the esp 5w-30 for my T1n several years back before the prices went crazy there. So I use it for the 320 and T1n based off of their recommendations.
2005 and the book says 25Nm for the drain plug. No way I'm-a-gonna try to get that tight!!! 12Nm is fine.... prove me wrong. LOL
@@FloridaVanMan that’s probably why mine stripped out!…going for 25Nm! BTW, do you have a good source for the service manuals for the e320's? I got my service manual for free for my T1N.
You are an inspiration! I think I've posted it before, yes you have saved me time and will again, sadly I'm on a fixed income that is not keeping up with the ghastly inflation, I may have to sell my beloved Sprinter ex Ambulance. :( I will have to replace the “Indicator /flasher/ wiper module” as High beam died with the stick on that position. I'd like her to go to a good home so I' going to get her nice and neat for the next owner, Thanks again, Mike
Mine just went out and am going to replace tomorrow. Found the Bosch 150a on Amazon for a great price right now
Good choice. The 200amp aftermarket alternators produced in the last 18 months or so have had problems with the pulley no aligned with the belt line.
why not putting the magnets on the door, they would be less exposed, more hidden and the filler cap surroundings look clean, tx EinHexenMeister
The magnets will grab some fuel handle hardware becoming a mild nuisance, holding the door and obstructing our attempt to grab the handle. The rusty magnets shown had been on the door originally, but I moved them to the van days or weeks after putting them on the door. I didn't get around to covering with caulk for a couple years, so the magnets on the door must have been a real inconvenience driving me to action so quickly. :)
Cool
cute build
Isn’t it weird that no company markets an aftermarket ventilation for a window ac mod?
It would not be difficult to make an efficient window unit into a good portable* a/c. When we are not constrained by efforts to build it for "one size fits all" we can make the hose size more appropriate than off the shelf portables.
Another excellent video! Thanks again!
Smashing bananas.... Is diesel cheaper or more expensive than gas in the States?
A little higher price here in Texas where I live. Gasoline is $2.75 per gallon and diesel is $3.07 per gallon.
@@michaeltablet8577 Thanks Michael. I am Scottish there was a big drive to get us to buy diesels for decades. Now we have them, they put diesel prices up to more than petrol/gasoline. We're paying around 7 dollars a gallon and Scotland exports oil
@@zambotv8150 ouch, that's expensive. Good luck to you!
Good idea. Right at the end of the video you can see a bracket on the side of the driver's seat. Any idea what that is used for?
Fire extinguisher
Factory optional fire extinguisher. I have not seen any in the states, only these brackets. Behind the driver seat we also have a holder for reflective traffic triangles. Ive seen only a few of those populated with the triangles in an orange box but every van had the holder.
just an FYI for everyone: "Mercedes-Benz 228.31 engine oil is excluded for approval and use in the Sprinter OM612 and OM647 Direct Injection diesel engines, as we have research to show that the oil on these sheets can have a detrimental effect on the components of the engine." Also, listed as not approved on MB Bevo spec sheet. On the other hand, I know a lot of people have used Rotella for years and continue to do so . . . . I'm gonna stick with old faithful Mobil 1 European Car Formula 0W-40 (MB229.3, MB229.5)
Have you ever seen the rear door lock when it should unlock, an unlock when it should lock? I also have the flashing passenger side light I can’t seem to be able to fix. Cleaned all the contacts and nothing.
Yes! The contacts in your door jam have been turned upside down or the wires to them got swapped. Most likely the contact plate fell out of the van wall and someone put it back in upside down.
@@FloridaVanMan you are amazing! I’ve been messing with that for years and now it works!
good lookin cheeze
Hi. Thanks for the video. Great info. I have the c270 cdi motor. Just a question... Does it matter the position of the drive key compared to TDC? Thanks again
Excellent video. I knew this test was a thing but didn't understand it until now.
Pretty color. Nice job.
That was brave, can't imagine the mess I would make. had enough trouble with the thinsulate.
Gives me a push to get going on my own. Nice job.
Great video. Exactly what I needed
Does this still apply if using a variable vapor barrier such as Intello Plus?
Thanks!
Another good one.
Hello, I have a Sprinter 2005 2.2cdi and it has power loss and does not rev over 3000rpm when the car is stationary. when I'm driving it can pass 3000 rpm and reach 4000 rpm. but I can't understand why it can't pass 3000 rpm when the car is stopped and I press full throttle. I had one injector leak off I replaced it but the problem was not solved. what I think could be a turbo actuator. it has a mechanical actuator in which a hose is connected to a solenoid. during a stop of the engine, it has a vibration sound and I can feel the vibration in the hose. Can I make a clock mechanical actuator with regard to turbo? or only the electric actuator can be clocked? thanks for your video.
when the engine gets hot while driving engine fails. especially when it is working on high Rpm.
when I press the actuator arm by finger I force it and it goes down and up.
Your vacuum actuated turbo is similar to our 2002-2003 Sprinters here. The 3000rpm while parked issue and failing at highway speed sound like fuel pressure problems. Do you have a compatible code reader? I can help you setup an AP200 and get a round OBD adaptor that works, if your van needs one. I'll send several links with short instructions like "Buy this" "Watch this" then ask for specific readings you get with the code reader. it does more than just report codes. 1-on-1 assistance is a member benefit. Please join today and help make more videos as I continue learning more about these vans. patreon.com/Florida_Van_Man?Link&
Could it maybe just have a lower rev limiter for when it’s stopped ?
@FloridaVanMan Thanks for your answer. So I will change high pressure sensor valve, and I will check. FUEL Pump works well, injectors are in excellent condition. There is no bubbles inside fuel line. I think my final part could be replaced is this sensor then.
If I keep this 77,000 mile 2004 2500 Sprinter Van toped off with all the juices necessary I really hope to avoid this possible future event. That sticky tar gum is currently landing on our Gulf Coast Beaches right now. Pain in the ass however it appears.
What - Why? Is this still Deep Sea Horizon mess or was there another spill I didn't want to know about? :(
