Going back and watching this after the fact, it's funny hearing Sal's question about superman raising a kid, in light of the Tomasi/Gleason Rebirth run.
Turns out, watching Clark turn into Pa Kent is more interesting than we expected.
Chris Check This story is the reason I always wanted to see Lois and Clark have a kid. Rebirth has been pretty much everything I wanted in a Superman book.
Geoff Johns was an intern for Richard Donner and he has referred to Donner as his mentor in many interviews. This story was basically an homage to Donner for helping him become who he was. Geoff Johns is the man, I can't even begin to explain how much this guy has influenced me in comics. Every hero (and villain) he touches is so much more enhanced in my opinion. He is my favorite writer because he has literally made some heroes jump to top 5 or even #1 on my list of favorites in DC. His run on Booster Gold in "52" and into "52 Pick Up" cemented Booster as my favorite superhero. And who can forget his amazing 10 year run on Green Lantern that opened up so much of DC's universe and actually made the Green Lanterns amazing!

My Professor in college who teached Digital Media Production also worked for Richard Donnor years ago. He had worked not only with Dic Donnor but also Kevin Fiege, and Geoff Johns; my professor even told me the story of how he was in Feiges office (apparently Feige had a lot of Star Trek and Star Wars figures on his Desk) and was talking about talking to Patrick Stewart about becoming Proffesor X if an when they do an X-Men movie. My professor also confirmed that the fake mustache story to convince Gene Hackman to be in Superman is actually true and sounds like something that he would do. Blew my mind!

I also can't help but laugh over the fact that Chris skipped over the Robin and went straight to Nightwing just to show Batman he wasn't interested.

A few points:
1.Bizarro does fight along with the Superman revenge squad. He fights non and since neither of them can talk they just grunt at each other loudly.
2. Christopher Kent manages to escape the phantom Zone, During the "new Krypton" arc" He starts to age quickly to 15 and 16 and then to 23. He becomes the new Knighting after Dick Grayson quits. He has yet to or may not appear in the New 52.

While this story was going on in action comics, in the main Sperman books Chris Kent stuck around for awhile, met Batman,had a picnic on a alien planet, helped take down a space-pirate, and generally was a nice kid character.
The kid's Kryptonian name is Lor-Zod. He prefers Christopher Kent even in main universe.

I read the beginning of New Krypton and was so utterly turned off I didn't even get that far. Thank you!
The new Krypton Storyline was bad but it had some great character moments, like Kara's relationship with her mother and they finally explain the fact that the Flamebird and Nightwing are Kryptonians gods that possess people kind of like the pheonix.
So the Superman from this story is in the New 52 universe now and is raising a kid. It is really good so far.
I would love to see a Scott Snyder, Geoff Johns and Brian Michael Bendis cooperative project.

+ComicPOP They did show the whereabouts of Christopher. Superman: Last son of krypton came around in 2006 i believe. The follow up of christopher returning along with Mon-El is a story called Superman :New Krypton in addition to Nightwing and Flamebird vol 1 and 2 , Worlds Finest (2009 i believe or 2010)and War of the Supermen. This happened post Final Crisis/ Batman: Battle of the Cowl (pre 52) but prior to Flashpoint and the New 52. Definitely check it out, Mark Waid, and Greg Rucka among some other writers worked on those stories.

Thanks for another great episode, I finally finished watching all the back issues and I am now just starting on "Off the Rack".
Incidentally I discovered something which might be useful to other fans... Because the playlists are auto-populated for "Off the Rack" and "Back Issues" they tend to play in reverse-chronological order, it's not really a problem, I could understand if you wanted the newer content to play first by default for new viewers (the haircut has taken years off Ben, is he perhaps from a new 52 universe, so he is a bit younger and has a more controversial origin story?)
Anyway... If you google "how to reverse a youtube playlist" it guides you to a nice safe official plugin for chrome. Just a handy tip for anyone else who likes to chain off a load of episodes in chronological order.
Also a recommendation for Ethan. I think you might enjoy my all time favourite comic, the characters are believable and it doesn't ask for any leaps of faith from the reader. That's because it is all about the notion of valid argument and the characters are real. It's called "Logicomix" and it depicts the life and work of British philosopher, mathematician and genius Bertrand Russell and those around him. Its incredible.

Funny enough about that "superpowered Robin" stuff, Damian just came back... and he has superpowers. Covers and such are implying that they're in the vein of Kryptonian.
i4njw Yeah, I saw! I'm kind of interested, now.
This story is great read all at once. Unfortunately, when the single issues came out, there was like a 14 month delay in getting the last two issues out. Kubert got WAY behind on the artwork, because his Phantom Zone stuff was drawn for 3D glasses, and he couldn't get it to look right. DC didn't want to spoil the ending of Chris being sent back to the Phantom Zone, so the other Superman titles had him as a backup character. But those writers weren't allowed to develop him at all, since he was Johns' character. Best they could do was throw some kind of red solar gem on him to dampen his powers so he wouldn't have any super effects on those stories. Then the final issue of this story came out, and nobody talked about Chris again until World of New Krypton a couple years later. Same kind of thing as what happened with Doomsday Clock, a rockstar artist couldn't keep up with schedule, and throws off the whole DC timeline.

I hope I don't get flamed for this, but a little set design goes a long way. Personally I think The Dice Tower is a good example of maximum effect without(it seems) crazy production value. Keep at it guys.

the only thing i don't like about geoff johns run of superman is that it ONLY makes sense within his run of superman and nothing else. because i thought they were self contained stories but i heard that these were cannon with the post-crisis universe. and that confused me to the point where i stopped reading superman. BUT this is a great book. love back issues. and ben, my both my brother and girlfriend would like it if you never cut your hair again...

I think the building in the phantom zone was supposed to have been Luthor's Injustice Gang's base of operations. It has it's own time bubble thing I think, That's why Zod and Ursa were able to bone and have the kid. Happened during Morrison's run IIRC(the luthor thing not the boning), Gotta go re-read that see if I'm wrong.
