- Following the year-long New Krypton storyline, Superman Grounded depicts Superman's return to Earth after residing on New Krypton. Exiting a congressional hearing about the "Hundred Minute War," he is confronted with the notion that he has grown disconnected from everyday Americans he has been committed to watching over, and doesn't truly know what his adopted people are like anymore. Feeling a responsibility to his adopted homeland, he begins a long journey where he will walk across the United States to reconnect with the everyday people he is committed to protecting. This is essentially an inverse of All Star Superman in the worst ways possible.
Haha you are so right!
Ruby Williams Relax literal child.
''That's right: They DREW me.'' This literally explains like 90% of bad comics in general.
Like Current Marvel Comics.
Sal: "So then the book is still going on"
Tiffany: "WHY!?"
same
Ah, yes, the "villains as thinly-veiled references to your critics" approach. I, too, know of M. Night Shyamalan's Lady in the Water.
or any story by jason aarons
I think All star Superman did a better job at making superman relatable and have him deal with minor problems of life in a way without being super preachy in my opinion
Yeah it did! All Star Superman is an amazing story.
Superman Grounded does sound like a Ma and Pa Kent story featuring Clark Kent being sent to his room at their house.
The time out corner is made out of kryptonite, and he has to learn his lesson before he dies of radiation poisoning.
@@richardball5843 A very Silver Age-sounding premise.
You forgot the part with the drug dealers where the child tells Superman they probably will then just go to the next city. and his reply..... "We'll that's that city problem then, cause it least they left here" .... i'll just let that sink in.
Don't forget the irony of Superman being an illegal alien too.
+PowerPackers90 To quote a brown hatted comic book reviewer I know "That problem is OVER THERE. And OVER THERE needs to solve its own problems."
@@TheIceMann007 is it the same guy that at Power Morphincon punched me in the stomach yelling "I AM MAN!!!!"
Is it also the guy who loses his mind and has combine harvest play as he does go insane due to shit comics?
I mean he has a magic gun...where'd he even purchase that
After seeing Ethan and Tiffany say "Oh" with raised eyebrows in unison at 1:28 I'm convinced Ethan and Tiffany are the same person after all.
Nathan M that's why you rarely see them in the same room
Livewire as a heroine would be cool, add her in with Fire and Ice, have like an elemental themed Sirens going,
I'm a Mexican, so when the aliens were a Medford for Mexican I was like I don't know about that. But when superman made make a business with secret technology and Ethan said " so do Mexican had some secret technology we don't know about" I stared to lmao
You have superior corn processing methods? Which is probably more valuable in the US (due to all our corn), but Americans know how to do that, they just don't for economic reasons
The idea of Superman walking around and seeing the world more like an average person sounds cool. Everything after that sounds terrible. Lol
It almost sounds like it’d be a fantastic Superman story exploring his connection to humanity and what is the human condition to the Last Son of Krypton. But the execution is botched beyond belief and it’s the second to last storyline before the start of the New 52 no less.
"In fact, this art looks like bullshit"
Funniest line of the episode.
"yeah, they drew me"- Sal from Comic Pop.
"That's right, they drew me," Sal.
lol
When you talked about Superman telling the aliens to contribute, my jaw dropped. This has to be the most dismal Superman story that I have ever heard.
On paper it's not a bad idea to write a "model minority" story with Superman as the analogue and the commentary piece but... Yikes
"The foots coming up, and if it comes down! So help me!" Had me dying. XD
sal remember when you ask which moment of back issues was our favorite??? well i would like to add... " ethan: he has the best of both, he is the world's greatest detective and he can melt stuff with his head "
without reading this I'd like to imagine this is the story of superman being grounded for coming home after curfew.
“You’re going up to your room without supper!”
“But Ma! Master Jailer’s got people taken as prisoners!”
“No buts! Your cousin can handle that one.”
“Don’t know why she gets to go to Mars after curfew when I can’t...”
Superman engaging the abusive dad like that is genuinely one of my favorite moments with the character
I love Tiffany's "I'M AWAKE" mug.
Superman: No T.V for a Month.
This story is a mess but I love that scene where he helps the suicidal girl. Makes me cry everytime
you mean the one that's also in all star superman.
@@arcadeassassin7176 Grounded did it better
Almost had me tearing up 😢
I loved this one. I think the best BackIssues are the ones were they discuss a train wreck of continuity and nonsense writing.
But Sal, tiffany and Ethan, this comic is over there and over there needs to stand on its own.
And people complain about politics in comics NOW...
I'm only a 1/4 of the way in and I already hate this story...but loving your comments. This story ignores that Clark was perfectly happy, secretly helping people without a true secret identity. He could help people AND have a normal life. He'd actually be able to have his cake and eat it to. The entire thing is s solution in search of the problem given the characters past history in multiple Post crisis versions.
Cure my testicle cancer superman
This show is such a good avenue to interesting books I'd never heard of without
superman should be a beacon of hope , he should not use fear as atool to change people , he uses
her self as an inspiration that you can be good , this not superman
plus superman respects freewill and freedom
Ya this story sounds like he's trying to force people to do stuff because he feels they should not because they actually need to aka the alien part with the tech just was stupid lol... I'm a big superman fan and I relate to him a lot but this writing for him is not relatable at all because he's already grounded he's from smallville he's a farmer at heart just as much as he's a hero he shouldn't have to learn to be grounded or whatever
+ThePandaSupreme Don't forget though, that this comes right after new krypton, so Superman wouldn't be in his right mind, if the story was well written they would have played up some form of ptsd or survivor's guilt but it isn't so....yeah it sucks.
+Phill Kirby Mmm your right
Yeah, this more in line with the Superman who popped into people’s houses and beat up domestic abusers
So how many "Superman is depressed?" type of story did we have so far?
I think Chris Roberson made the story tolerable when he took over, would've loved to see a proper Superman run by him because he tried his best when DC forced him to follow JMS's plot.
Tiff's face @ 27:23 = best review of this comic ever.
This is just what I needed!! Comic pop never ceases to impress.
"Im the goddamn SUPER BATMAN!" OMG this one made me LOL more than any Backissues yet! Great job guys and Tiff!
Well, screw going to a party this is how I'm spending New Year's Eve
Ethan- "anytime he does something you don't like or agree with, it was because of the mind control"
Ha!
I hope you guys do a New Krypton Back Issues. I just started reading it and I'm loving everything about it.
Thanks Guys, you really help me understand the story much better..👍👍👍
Happy New Year's!!👊✊✌
I was at SD Comic Con and spoke to JMS as he was about to laugh this storyline. I said I was excited to see where it went...which ended up being pretty much no where.
25,002 subscribers. congrats!. Thanks for all of the amazing videos. :D
Happy new year to everyone at comic pop. Thanks for all the great vids cant wait to see whats in store for 2016 -your friend "little alley moore" haha
Even tho it wasn't the best comic the commentary was gold.
My library has these books...needless to say when I read it, I was like ".....what?"
6 years ago back issues stated that maybe one of the universes had super apes and I would just like to say this has now been confirmed on Earth 53
25K!!!! Doing the New Year Dance of Joy for ComicPOP!!! Thanks for a great year and wishing you nothing but the best for 2016. *BIG SLOPPY KISS*
I learn something every single time I watch this show! haha :)
18 subs away from 25k congrats on this and a milestone in the 1 mil subs mark for getting physical with Ethan
I remember atop the fourth wall doing the first issue of this, they made a bit of a running gag out of the 'over there' bit
Ethan's fast talking sound was impressive
congrats on 25k subs
hey i really like your videos i love listening to all your guys opinions my only problem is i wish you would show more pictures
The only explanation for this book's existence is that that scheming teacher got to Straczynski.
"did you pay $46...?" 😂😂😂
I came back to this because JMS is back at Marvel🤘
Congratz on 25k
Could you do a back issues for the Sinestro Corp War? More Green Lantern stories would be great!
Jeez, when did Straczynski turn into fucking Frank Miller?
I love this show ☺️
You guys should've brought Santa on like you said you would last week XD
Woah! You guys are at exactly 25,000 subscribers!
I think that maybe Batman and Flash's later discussions were maybe attempts at trying to talk Superman down without letting him know that they think he's crazy?
great video guys
Last of 2015! On to bigger and better things Comic Pop!!
The premise of this story is ridiculous. Superman has never not been human. He was raised like a human by his human parents, his wife is a human, and his best friends are human.
Apparently some writers and DC themselves don’t seem to get that part.
An episode without Ben?! My world is askew!
Please, please, please guys do a back issues video about something from the Valiant universe like the Book of Death, Divinity Harbinger or Bloodshot. (they're all so good and deserve way more coverage)
Divinity would be awesome.
hey Tiffany, that is a small mug you got there! : D
I like to think that Ben was away fighting crime with his laser vision... I also like to think of a world where my dad doesn't remind me that I'm a failure
Back Issues: SUPERMAN: GROUNDED , aka , the Roast of Ben :D
Happy New Year ComicPop! (ers)
THE FUTURE SUCKS WE HAVE TO GO BACK
@@Ike_of_pyke well it got worse.
Hilarious episode guys xDIt'd be cool to see you guys do Spiderman Reign for your 100th episode ;]
Tiffany awesome mug! 😃
Ok so this is the ep that was missing. Creeping close to Back issues 100!
I think Ethan really liked this book :P
don't worry, if you ever need help stoping a person, destroy their stuff, but not enough to get rid of everything and not enough to prevent them to rebuild what was broken, then don't actually stop the bad guys, just tell them that it's not your problem, that it's over there's problem, and then after all of that, find a nearby kid, leave and tell the kid to tell the criminals that they will be beaten up by you, and that kid will probably be hurt or injured by affornmentioned criminals.
Do the Whatever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow story.
so the whole premise of this book is that one scene from Forrest Gump? yeah I'm sure that'll be great
Superman should just build a giant wall around to keep out the aliens.
You guys should do the sandman
i'm confused, if superman is so concerned with helping the common man than how is destroying the town helping anyone?
It's Zorg logic? Honestly I've got nothing.
He`s having a mental breakdown- not the most lucid
Superman takes her to Cosgrove. "Hey, cut that out".
I love back issues, but would you be at all capable of partnering with a local shop for these comics? I feel like you are missing an opportunity to support the local shops and offer an outlet that has better rates for people that want to buy single issues or subscriptions.
only two away from 25 k, what what
I've always felt like a lot of the "points" this book tried to make read more like Geoff Jones than Staczynski, and I think we all know that Jones is not above blatant character assassination. I think Straczynski may have been handed a stack of notes and told to just fill in the gaps.
Hey Sal did you like the Peter Parker cameo in the book?(and have u considered doing superman at earths end)?
My Spidey-fan Senses are tingling! You're saying Parker was in this?
+Just Some Guy with a Mustache There's a s scene of superman in a diner or something and there's a photographer that looks exactly like Peter Parker talking to his boss debating on getting pictures l. JMS said yes to me when I asked him he could've messed with my perception like he did with everyone with this book.
Yeah this is not a good Superman comic. I prefer when you guys do the good Superman stories. There much more fun & uplifting to hear you guys discuss. This was kinda a downer :(. But on the upside this tiffany girl is hot and into Superman & knows about the lore and stuff . That's always a attractive quality in a woman... :) good job guys can't wait for the next one!!! Thumbs up
nice Bill Cipher shirt Tiff
could u do green lantern rebirth and war of the green lanterns?
PLEASE :) ----
O
----
Have you guys read Superman Secret Identity?
Tiffany, I love your Bill shirt.
Thanks! I am so sad that the show is coming to an end!
TheRealZubes You're welcome! Me too, but At least it is ending when they want it to rather than it being cancelled or something. It should hopefully have a satisfying ending.
+Joshua ThreeFiveFour Couldn't agree more!
superman is so famous and influential in this universe , he is like the equivalent of kim kardashian in this universe , he really dont need to go out there and help other people into there simple problems , he is should use her influence to change the world by changing every persons way of thinking.
+Dark Mamba Kim Kardashian? Are you trying to give someone a rage induced stroke?
+A Bastard I would like to see a person have a stroke every time they see kims name. that would be funny.
Wtf is this comment ?
Why was this put in trade??
MY BRAAAAND
The suicide thing is one of my pet peeves due to the fact that, she may be in that situation the very next week and he may be fighting Darkseid and so the girl would jump
Godamit, watch this or NXT? Decisions man
Nice Gravity Falls shirt.
Tiffany where did you get that glorious coffee mug?
I seriously can't remember...gift from the ether?
I shall wait patiently until the ether bestows me with one as well.
All hail Bill Cypher!
_"The foot is coming up!"_ 😂🤣😂🤣
Is that from something? If not....How the FUCK.... Did they come up with such....hilarious, over the top, spousal abuse...?
so basically in this story superman became like jesus
