I'm not a vocalist, i am a soundengineer. Duncan opens up his posture during the song and he also needed that dynamic space for his microphonetechnique. He is a true professional singing his headvoice over the microphone. He turns away to make tastfull dynamics. No harsh sounds... The light in his face is an important showelement, a story...
It's a rare thing at the ESC but he was a deserved winner. Not an over-the-top song but with this performance and singing, it all worked out great. He came in third and second at the jury/audience votes (iirc) while others did totally fall off and out of even the top 10 in one ranking, so no mistake made here.
It think people need to realize he's just starting his career , is favorite with the bookmakers for months , and is performing a final that can make his career for 200+ million people nerves going to enter...
He sang again at the end of the show, as the winner. In that performance of course all stress is gone, and he sang standing (instead of sitting at the piano). Any comparision of the two situations is interesting.
He himself said the second performance wasn't very good. He was way overwhelmed by emotions, so I think his performance mostly suffered technically. That said, his earnest joy and exhilaration could perhaps make up for it a little given the fact that sincerity is such a big part of his style. (Although this is not a happy song, so maybe not...)
@Ber P. I think he did great. In the winning performance, as said before, he was very overwhelmed with emotions. I mean he just won! The Netherlands hadn't won in 44 years.
@Ber P. Oh dear...of course someone has to troll this and rain down on someone's parade. Probably someone that has not achieved anything in life and has no emotions what so ever. Have a great day Ber !
Lovely reaction, and we (most anyways) in the Netherlands, are over the moon that he won it. 44 years is a long time to wait for a win, but these last, say, 10 years, we've been sending (exceptions taken) our very best performers, and were getting closer and closer to the top. But actually winning? I dont think anyone here was really expecting it, hoping? hell yes!! with all our hearts, but the votes have to come our way, ... and they did come, in abundance. We're so proud of Duncan, and proud about the fact a real song won it. I think that Duncan is a vocal coach :) I loved the song and how much I connected to it. I love that it has a dynamic, it's not the same from start to finish, he plays with his voice in that way. It's more interesting than most ballads. I love how humble and sweet Duncan is and how he won without any staging or anything. There is always room for progress but the jury gave him nice marks and the voters sealed it.
Hi Linor👋 you look lovely😊 that blue suits you. I have been hearing about Eurovision for the last few days so when I saw your video pop up glad I decided to watch. Duncan has so much emotion and is a very good singer. I am not a professional but that was music🎶 to my ears. Congrats Netherlands 🎉🎊 Love the country and the people 💖
Thank you from the Netherlands , i think you must coach him , so he can be even better, we are very proud here after such a long time without a win, see you in the Netherlands next year, Israel did an amazing job it was an amazing show, i hope we can do it just as good in Holland next year!!
Great reaction Linor! I hear exactly what you're saying about the performance and you demonstrated it well with your own voice. He needs to come to you for some lessons. 😁 Great video as always and you look amazing today. Love that color blue on you. 😊
Normaly i don’t have much with vocals and stuff more with piano, guitar and other instruments. But his song, combo of piano and variations with his voice, in his song he sings like a rollarcoaster, hard soft sadness and stdrength the love and a broken harth. Gives me goosebumps everytime.
Thank you for your video. About his voice... If you would watch more performances you would see that the vibrato is purely nerves to my opinion, because he sings really spot on in 99 percent of his performances, even while sitting at the piano. I’ve been in love with his voice and song since I first heard it, and that only happened to me a little with the song of his coach in 2014 “Calm after the storm” which then ended second after Conchita.
I have followed Duncan the last few days and he has been rehearsing every day, going late to bed, show cases, interviews, parties. And the end of this week you could hear his voice was getting tired and he had to strain slightly more. In the morning of yesterday (saturday) he was really sounding snotty and closed up and I was really afraid of his last performance especially since they had a dress rehearsal before, having to do all of it again, no rest on Saturday for him. Constantly he was carrying around his bottle with straw and blowing bubbles to keep his voice as best as possible. The rehearsal was ok-ish, you could tell he was not going all in, but as you said, he is a professional so he could have been holding back because of his tired voice. I was happy with what he did on the finals even though in my opinion it was the worst run through, the nerves were sky high and I'm glad he is so in control of his instrument because he was running on fumes. He himself deemed it as the worst performance he did there as well. Thank you for your reaction!
The other performances I've seen of him singing Arcade he's standing in front of a microphone. I don't know why he decided to sit down for this performance.
Maybe this is just a recommendation thing, but the vocal coaches and teachers are rising from the dust like crazy since Eurovision :o But you're the first person that reacts to the actual act instead of his finale song when he already won.
That's a nice reaction to Duncan 😎 (PS: Adina Aaron comes to sing in The Netherlands Januari next year to sing with the "Noord Nederlands Orkest" for the "Niewjaarsconcert"👀)
