- @Mazdausa sent over this 2022 CX-5 Turbo for a week and I came to understand why it still is a hot contender. Simple answer: the design is timeless. The CX-5’s Kodo design language was refreshed for 2022 and even for a 6 year old car, it looks gorgeous, especially in Soul Red Crystal Metallic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏁 @Alllcarnews Spec Sheet: This 2.5L Turbo 4 gets 250HP and 320 lb-ft of torque (434NM) on 93 octane. Mazda has made changes to the 6-speed auto gearbox as well along with some minor chassis tweaking ft. G-Vectoring control +. 0-60 I tested in 6.8sec, same as Motortrend. 🏁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
+The design is a stand out feature of the CX-5 and Turbo & Signature trims look a class above.
-The interior gained a larger infotainment but, while still premium inside, it is lacking compared to newer Mazda interiors found in the Premium Plus 3, CX-30 and CX-50.
+The chassis is where Mazda destroys competitors on the CX-5. Fantastic quick and perfectly weighted steering, car like driving dynamics, and tech like G-Vectoring control + are all highlights.
-While the 2.5L Turbo 4 impresses with up to 320 lb-ft of diesel like low end torque around town, fuel economy could be better. I averaged 20MPG this week daily driving.
So for $38k as tested, it still is a great, solidly built, well handling, and great looking buy. But bits here and there inside are showing their age and the competiton is fiercer than ever.

Dude you're sacrificing MPG for driving dynamics, let me tell you this car is one of the best drivers car for the money. Especially for a SUV. I drove a stelvio ti sport 2020 and it was the best handling , driving SUV I've ever driven. I went back to my CX5 and i was blown away, this car costs half of what that car costs and it delivers 80% of the feel. The handling is spot on, I'd kill myself if I have to drive a rav4. Mazda is so underrated. The fit and finish is better than the CRV too, great video. Thanks for punching it unlike other reviewers ! TBH this car drives better than the rdx , it feels heavier and not as nimble. Steering is also numb and brakes are even spongier ! I drove a RDX advanced 2021 model , also adaptive steering too.. but the CX5 has tighter steering for sure, heavier most people don't like it. I do !
I watched this video before buying mine, I am very happy with it. Lots of power on tap at any speed, handling is engaging and the sound system thumps. Only criticism would be the brakes, they feel under powered sometimes but this is a minor complaint.
That’s what I love about the 2.5 S also is the power in any gear. But obviously, if you want a Mazda Sport vehicle, the Mazda Turbo lineup is the way to go.
Nice review! I appreciate that you demonstrated various aspects of the car from a "real" driver's perspective, which is rarely found in many of the CZcams car reviews. Great job and keep it up!
Thank you!
Dream car ..God bless I buy it this year
Just got my wife a 2023 cx5 its incredibly nice and sporty.
Great review! Thanks
thanks for watching
Your 0-60 was 7.5 seconds and that is in the same range as all the other tests (both instrumented and non instrumented) I have seen on youtube. the sub 7 second 0-60 times reported in the car magazines would seem to be BS after watching 8 videos and seeing 0-60 times of 7.2 to 7.5 seconds.
Good review! You showed real world POV driving conditions especially in the rain. Looking into buying this next year.
Thank you
I’ve loved my cx-5, but I really want a 4Runner :) congrats on just about 10k subs!
thank you!!
Same totally different cars but yet I can understand how they both are appealing the CX five drives 1 million times better. It drives like a car but not just a car a really good car the forerunner that’s not it strong suit it’s strong suit is going to be bad weather, off-road ability, and the fact That if you worked at it you could probably get a good 20+ years out of it. Especially if your live somewhere without salted roads.
Amazing review! I’m debating on upgrading from my 2020 Mazda 3 GT AWD to a CX5 Turbo AWD next year and this helped! I hope they upgrade the screen though and introduce fog lights next year!!
Fantastic! Definitely should check out my CX-5 turbo review!
The pedals still vibriting when you are on the road?
yeah, a lot of road feel in the cabin but not necessarily road noise.
This is the model I’m hoping to get. Are they all turbo?
They are not!
What Navigation system was running? Mazda, or Carplay/Android Auto?
Waze through Apple CarPlay
What gas are you using? Brand and octane.🤔
Shell 93 Octane.. top of the line
Thank you all the details. Few other reviewers mentioned a hopping feeling with this car becuase of a shorter wheel base. Did you also feel the same?
Yes i did on harder launches, felt like the front end was getting lose a bit. But nearly immediately was controlled by traction/ and those systems.
Do the turbos still have oil consumption issues?
Only if you abuse it and don't change the oil, like any other turbo, this isn't for racing and constantly driving heavy footed. Easy everyday driving and maintenance and you'll be fine
Why are you power braking?
building some boost man.
Oh man ur thighs is 😳🏳️🌈
