Kenny Omega is the guy that got me watching wrestling again last year for the first time since I was like 12, I'm 28 now for reference. I saw a video about the golden lovers, dunno why it was in my youtube feed, nor why I watched it, but I'm so glad I did. I was sat there tearing up like, WTF, there's storytelling like this in wrestling? I just remember bra and panties matches and two guys fighting over custody of a kid.
I'm so excited for him to come back, whenever he's ready.
I wonder if that video you watched on the golden lovers was from super eye patch wolf or me 🤔 but yeah Kenny omegas storytelling is on another level!

AEW dropped the ball massively with Kenny. He should have been their flagship guy from day one. I'm sure there was kind of an unwritten agreement between the Elite boys that they would hold back for a couple of years when the company started to let other talents shine. And also having all the EVP's hold all the gold right away would have looked like business nepotism. But before AEW Kenny was literally bordering on GOAT of wrestling status. He was easily the best wrestler in the world when they started. The guy coming off his Okada feud, shattering the Meltzer star ratings on all his PPV's. He even gave Jericho his first five star match in Japan. People couldn't wait to see his next big bout. And instead of AEW riding that wave and making him the number one guy in the company from the jump they had him step aside so that... Hangman Page and Darby Allin and Sammy, Moxley and Jericho could take the spotlight. No offence but had Kenny been the top guy and been putting 5x matches on all the PPV main events from the off, those guys would still be where they are now but the company would have had a much stronger start to things.

AEW has wasted Kenny Omega. AEW won the Kenny Omega sweepstakes when he was a free agent (granted it made perfect sense he’d be going to join the rest of The Elite). He was coming off his G1 Climax and IWGP HW Championship run and was white hot. Nobody on the planet was hotter than Kenny Omega at that time and AEW did the unthinkable and poured water on him. Most assumed early on he would/should be the man in that company and booked like a star but it just hasn’t been the case in 5 years. He’s given us great matches as we all expected but he hasn’t had great wins and one good run as the Belt Collector. In AEW he’s had two gimmicks: “Belt Collector” and “stepping stone for others” which kills me as a fan because The Cleaner that took the world by storm by kicking in every door that wasn’t the WWE’s deserved more and to be had/shown on the western stage. A lot of the ex WWE guys coming in got better rubs/looked better or stronger which always felt weird to me.
They should've done the belt collector run in 2019
AEW has dropped the ball with everyone except MJF…and that’s bc that kid made himself.
The whole Meltzer rating system is part of AEW’s problem. Let’s put this in perspective. WWE has been around with the name WWF or WWE since 1979 (before that it was the WWWF but there weren’t star ratings then). In the entire history of that company, they have been given a grand total of 19 Five ⭐️ matches. Kenny and Misawa have 25 each in their careers, Okada has 27 in his, and Will Ospreay has 37 five ⭐️ matches. So when Will gets his next 5 star match, which will probably happen in a mid card match on Rampage (jk…hopefully), he will have twice as many “five or more star matches” in his career as a 31yo man than WWE does in their 40 years as a national company. He wasn’t even born when the WWF began national expansion 😂 Now Will can literally do everything that Kenny and Okada can do, but we all know Will can do things neither man can. That being said, do you seriously think Will, Okada, and Omega have each had better careers than the entire history of WWE? Kurt Angle has zero 5 star matches ever. Shawn Michaels has ONE. That’s how little 5 star matches matter to WWE. AEW should be different. But until Tony figures out that just putting on great matches will never, ever bring in new fans. And no offense, but that’s what it needs - not the American fans of NJPW. WCW almost beat the WWE once they had a mission statement and a plan.
Maybe if guys were trying to tell captivating stories, learn how to deliver a promo like MJF, building them up on Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision then having them all come together on their PPV where they can put together 5 star+ matches INSTEAD OF trying to put on a “5 star classic” every damn night - MAYBE AEW wouldn’t be in the precarious situation it’s now in. There’s no reason to chase star ratings if the match’s only significance is that it’s the main event of a weekly episodic show. WWE figured that out a long time ago - and they’re worth more (by a LOT) than every other pro wrestling promotion on the planet combined.

Hate to be that guy but yeah, I cried hard manly tears when Kenny kicked out of the BTE Trigger at 1. I was screaming at the top of my lungs “HOW FN DARE YOU” when they hit it & was overjoyed when Kenny kicked out. It was like the sheer audacity + the memory of Kota pushed him to another level. God I love Kenny.

As someone who came into AEW with the Danhausen reveal this is a really good doc to help me understand how much and how far Kenny, TYBs and AEW in whole has been having alot of history and amazing wrestlers to grace the show, I did not even know of Kenny Omega but I have so many amazing matches to watch now
Omega is absolutely amongst the Greatest pro wrestlers of all time. In ring Wrestling, psychology, storytelling everything is great. A true artist and a role model of mine.
Kenny Omega will go down as one of the GOATS for sure. Not only is he an amazing wrestler but he has literally changed the wrestling industry

Omega's story of not giving up in early 2008-9 going to NJPW building a resume for himself motivates me in real life to not give up, His run as leader of Bullet club and main eventing Wrestle Kingdom was an epic time period.
the kenny vs hangman story was some of the best long term storytelling I have ever since in wrestling.

If you want to bring up something from twenty years ago why not go back further to twenty years before that with Hogan vs Andre the Giant that was a great build up to WrestleMania 3. The point is that WWE is stale and a fan has to have a short attention span so if you want to bring up stuff from twenty years ago and think that the E is still that way then you haven't watched in ten plus years.

The Belt Collector phase of Kenny is by far the best for me in my pro wrestling/sports entertainment viewing. It was so tiltilating, 4 world championships in 3 different promotions. It was so unheard of for me (never saw or read about the territories era before aew).
Ive always thought that he couldve won the NWA world heavyweight championship and RoH world championship if it wasnt for the pandemic.
The Belt Collector Kenny Omega was legendary. If AEW owned ROH at the time then he would have definitely won their world championship.

Wow, thank you for making this. I unfortunately fell out of "liking" pro wrestling in about 2015. I only knew WWW/WCW/ECW my whole life. So at that point, I only watched WWE for the past 15 years or whenever it was that the wars ended. I gave AEW a full fair shot and it was during the Omega/Mox Deathmatch and I have been hooked ever since. I'm so thankful for being able to catch such a historical run that has done so much for the sport with Omega being the head of it at the time. I heard his name before but never looked into his work. I'm happily ADDICTED to AEW. Thank you for making this because it helps me learn so much of what I didn't know about Omega. Cheers!

The Omega vs Reigns who was better argument annoyed the hell out of me. Kenny is an actual amazing wrestler and is my all time favorite. He has amazing storytelling and his in ring work is the damn best. Roman has gotten a lot better but I feel he has been way over hyped because it isn't hard to be the best in WWE when he was the only one not being booked as a backseat joke.
Yeah true. The Roman vs omega debate got exhausted after a while. I was always of the opinion that Roman Reigns was much better than Kenny Omega in almost every aspect.
@@AgeOfWrestling Agree to disagree. My thinking was that Omega is just a great all around wrestler/story teller. Reigns is good when given the right character and direction. I know it'll never happen but I'd like to see Reigns outside of WWE with full creative control to see what he can really do.

The finish of the Barbwire Death match I’ve always considered to be intentional from a narrative perspective. Omega lied to Moxley broke the stipulation in their 1st World Title match, to lull Mox into a false sense of security / fulfill Mix’s violent tendencies while always knowing in the back of his head he’d have back up + wouldn’t be worried about the explosion. Just my take.

Kenny’s biggest issue is his mic work…..if he gets some reps with a micsmith, he’d be a hell of a lot more marketable. We already know that he can work and have a good match….he’s missing that good promo.
We're not going to get The Cleaner, orr The Best Bout Machine until Khan buys the rights for Devils Sky. It was epic when it was used for when he defended the IWGP US title on AEW. Devils Sky played and the entire arena went nuts.

WWE doesn't DESERVE anyone the caliber of Kenny Omega. They take amazing people and BREAK them with their horrible writing and they refuse to let anyone succeed no matter how over with the fans they are. Kenny Omega's "the cleaner" persona is one of the all time greats. I'd put it up their with all the wrestling legends of the past.
