- We had this question asked recently in a comment on a video, would I choose the Ruger LCP Max over the Glock 42 for travel, now that I have had the LCP Max for a year. Both are chambered in 380 ACP.

I love my LCP Max and have had zero issues thankfully. It's the smallest and lightest by a decent bit and concealability is absolutely essential to me.
I think most (not all) people who buy a 380 want a very small gun and as such the Ruger is both smaller and holds more rounds so it seems a better fit for the average person. Any problem with a Ruger is normally taken care of by Ruger free & extremely fast. The Glock 42 is great but for that size I'd carry my Sig P365 and gain power and capacity
I have a ruger lcp which is accurate and a reliable I do believe white magick was involved I wear xl gloves so i thought the grip would suck yeah not a glock but when I cant carry my 19 somewhere which despite the reliability if ruger it is still not glock and my hands are perfect on my 19 gen 3 i like the grip I went to the gun counter and has thinking of getting a 19 for years as soon as i got proper grip best feel from any handgun by far and am stupid accurate with the 19 but the ruger I am confident where most gunfights and dangerous spot Im skinny so I can appendix the 19. if when holstered my glock is uncomfortable I know need to lose weight I call it my my weight trainer I could weight 400lbs and still carry my lcp max
That was exactly my thought process when debating between the G42 vs the LCP Max. The G42 pretty much has the same footprint as most micro 9's with no added capacity. It seems like it was designed for women as the go to suggestion over the classic snub nose revolver. The LCP Max has just enough to be a primary carry but small enough to be considered a mouse gun
@@tedjerdee1028 I agree. The LCP Max is nearly perfect as a 380 that can be carried nearly anywhere unnoticed. I've had my LCPII since it was introduced and I love it for what it is, Well over 1000 rounds and 100% reliable. + I shoot it very well with the Armalaser laser. Out to 15 yards I can keep a soda can rolling so plenty good for self defense accuracy. I'd like to get the Max but then I wouldn't keep the LCPII and used they aren't worth much & I also have the Lite Rack LCPII in 22LR that
s a fun/cheap to shoot trainer
The Glock 42 is more shootable for me due to the very reason it is harder to conceal. It is always a balancing act between concealment and shootability.👍
@@markallen4001 That's true for most people. Some will sacrifice concealability for shooting comfort and some will compromise shooting comfort for concealability.
LCP Max for me
Reliability issues
@@ryanranard5187 Nope. Mine has a little over 1,300 rounds thru it and runs flawlessly.
@@whatsup24_7 You’re the exception not the rule
@@ryanranard5187 Everyone I know with them have no problems either.
@@whatsup24_7I just prefer the G42 because to me Ruger pistols are more “budget” and their durability can not match Glocks or SIGs P365 in 380. Glocks are easier to take all the way down and clean. I have 8+1 in my G42. I just trust it more. I’ve had two LCP MAXs.
I got both. They are both really great concealed carries. Close close call on what’s a better piece however. The g42 shines in my eyes in the accuracy and general utilization department. The ruger shines in the capacity and easy carry department.
G42 - me personally can shoot far more accurate, quicker, draw easier with the glock. But.. i do run a 19, 17 so i’m used to the platform. As far as carrying you just need a small holster. It is a pocket gun but to actually be able to utilize in self defense a holster is a must for this. Tons of options for upgrades +1 +3 mags, triggers, slide locks, mag releases.
Ruger max - personally feel its a perfect pocket carry. Capacity on it practically sells itself. No stranger to ruger either i have owned, ruger ec9, first gen lcp 380, gen 2 lcp chambered in 22lr (Ruger 2 22lr favorite out of the bunch) that being said i feel as though the ruger has everything you need right out the box. From the night site, to the capacity and generations of small perfections they made grip wise, recoil etc. ruger is the everything in one. If your on a budget and want the most out of a pocket carry go for the ruger.
If you got a little play money for some accessories g42 all day.
Cons of the max (for me) •can’t grip it very well. Weird grip but recoil is upright no straying to left or right just up down recoil. This could be user error because every handgun is meant to be held a certain way. Trigger is a bit long on the pull and reset but overall no issue in a self defense scenario from range shooting perspective yeah trigger could be better
G42 cons • capacity
• no night sights
•need a holster ideally.
Conclusion for edc i do trust the g42 a bit more but would not hesitate to carry a lcp for edc. Just a little
Info for anybody wondering. Honest review and opinion on them
Coming from having experience with both
Thanks, that was a very thorough breakdown. I'm thinking of getting the LCP max. Love the size/capacity.
@@crharper25 np!
Your experience with the LCP Max is certainly not consistent with mine. It has been very reliable. Yes, it is snappy but it fills a use case: you wear it where otherwise you would not carry anything.
Yeah but the Glock isn’t significantly bigger. It’s same use case. So it’s really just personal preference.
I have the LCP Max and after 400 rounds without a hiccup, I'm sold. I've shot the G42 but it doesn't fit quite well in my right front pocket the way the Ruger does. I'm sold on the Ruger.
Wish Glock would come out with a 42x to compete with the lcp max
Agreed, Glock is stupid for not coming out with the 42X. 😕
Exactly!! Don’t get it

Excellent idea
Never thought of a 42X but damn it you’re right. I carry the LCP max because of the capacity vs size. But wish there was a Glock competitor.
Rather have six for sure than ten maybes. Thanks!
theyre all maybes if we're honest. it's a matter of degree. i'm sure the glock is more reliable but i choose the ruger for better concealment, more rounds and cheaper too.
@@cryengine_x good point👍!
Bought both of these at the same time for summer carry. Before going to the range I initially thought the 42 would be the most reliable of the two. I had multiple failures to feed with the 42 and it has yet to be reliable. The LCP Max feels cheaply made and the fit and finish are on the low end but it has been 100% reliable including mixed ammo and mag dumps. With that experience the LCP Max is on me when I have on basketball shorts or mowing the yard, quick store runs, etc...
I bought a Glock 23 in 2008 and it’s malfunctioned once.
My LCP Max rusted within a week. Ruger replaced the slide/barrel and I’ve had three FTEs with it.
The striker on my EC9s broke after 300 rounds.
My SR22 was recalled and the new one has a crooked frame which Ruger considers “normal.”
I’ve seen the rust issue with other reviewers too.
They’re cheaper for a reason. I get it, but I’d rather have quality over price
@@localgunguy4992 i put my lcp under my seat in my 150 degree tx garage (condensation) and it got maybe a ever so light dusting of rust once that wiped off. the thing is 199 (this is an original style lcp not the max or 2). so i mean if the rust actually ever did anything so what, it's so cheap it's borderline disposable. never any reliability issues either. i seem to see more issues online with the max and 2, maybe because they havent worked out the kinks fully. the g42 is a non starter to me cus it's like 1.5x the size and weight, and i value concealment above all. i'm quite sure the g42 is more reliable, but i'm willing to give that up. it's also more expensive for that matter but thats not my issue, just a nice bonus to the ruger,
G42 with pierce +1 ..and Fab defense +4 for backup , perfect.
I prefer the Strike +2
I have both. G42 all day baby.
The G42 is a tack driver and is super soft to shoot. The LCP Max is an amazing size, but I’ve had to update the trigger and springs in order to get it close to the same accuracy as my G42.
MCarbo makes some good stuff, but again, out of the box the G42 is better in my opinion.
I want to shoot the Sig P365 380. That might replace my G42 for EDC pocket carry.
I’m 6’3” 300lbs and feel 380 is plenty, especially if I’m more accurate with shot placement.
Good stuff. Shout out from Michigan. 🇺🇸
Sig 365-380 is amazing? So comfortable and SUCH a soft shooter.
The nice thing about a glock is it is basically like other glocks just smaller. I understand ruger has good customer support. But to me better quality up front is more important.
Never wanted the 42 but I have the LCP 2 and max The only time I carry 380s if I need something to fits in my pocket otherwise it's a 9 or 357.
i have carried a g26 in my front jeans pocket for many years. the 42 is like nothing in your packet in comparison.
I bought my LCP MAX and had issues with one specific mag not locking back as well. Fixed by 1) a replacement mag from Ruger, and 2) tightening the feed lips on the problem mag just enough to even out the follower's position in line with the others. To it's credit the LCP MAX has never failed to feed/fire/eject over several hundred rounds. The finish is cheap, the slide (replaced) rattles on the rails, and is in general an economy pistol. Everything about it is low end but it works (I've never dropped my mags but that's a pretty weak performance, cracking like that). By comparison my G42 bought a year later is typical Glock, it works, it has a good finish, the mags function perfectly, and is better in every way but capacity. I bought it specifically for quality and the longer barrel. I find it much easier to shoot accurately. All that said I do pocket carry the LCP MAX but it is never alone.
Ruger Security .380 is my choice.
Ruger makes great revolvers,… But when it comes to a semi, Definitely a Glock…
I have the LCP Max but been seriously considering replacing it with the p365-380 to get less snap but still have something easy to pocket carry or conceal in summer shorts.
Its .380 bruh
I have a G 43, 26, and 19. I had a 17 I gave to my son and a 34. Obviously I like Glocks for various reasons but mainly reliability, ability to get parts and accessories and the ease of totally stripping a Glock and avoiding gunsmiths. I also have the original LCP in the Custom model which must have been a limited run. I've shot over 600 rounds through the LCP without any issues and I find it to be amazingly accurate. This is my pocket pistol and even if the Max were reliable, others have had reliability issues as well, it is just large enough that I probably wouldn't pocket carry it which defeats the purpose. I know some guys pocket carry their ARs but to me the original LCP is perfect for the task.
Wish I had your luck with the LCP. I have one that won't even shoot 1 magazine without jamming. Even sent it back to Ruger and still had same issue (and forget hollow points the jams are all with ball ammo). But you are right it is the perfect pocket pistol.
Maybe I lucked out but the MAX I purchased in early May has been flawless for over 400 rounds of FMJ & HP ammo. I’ve had the original LCP for 10+ yrs and never had a malfunction w/it either.
Typical Glock owner…. You could create the worlds best 380 and this guy would still choose the Glock. He made a case as to why the lcp is superior to the g42 for someone who wants a little gun, the picked Glock because of name
LCP Max all day long, unless Glock feels like coming out with a double stack 42.
I should add, my LCP Max’s have been much more reliable than yours evidently.
They did release to the U.S. the Glock 28….but that’s too chunky for me. I’d prefer to see a Glock 42x MOS to keep it a slimline, but add more capacity.
@@NOT_A_TOP_FAN Lol, the Glock 28 is definitely not a double stack Glock 42. It’s a whole different size class, obviously.
@@KD-lb9bgthat’s literally what a G42 is... a single stack baby glock
I love my 42 and mainly carry it when I go walking or doing some sort of outdoor exercises. It’s small and light plus I normally carry a G19, or 43X, or even the 48. I have always wanted the LCP Max for the higher round count, but didn’t see fit for me to spend the cash on a caliber I hardly carry knowing I own one already in a G42. I would say for me, the P238 is a nice one over the LCP, but again…..wouldn’t want to waste that money on a caliber I hardly carry. If I was getting a 380 for the first time it would be the Sig 238, G42, the Browning 1911 in 380 and then last would be the LCP.
For all the reasons you mentioned, I traded in the LCP Max for a Glock. LCP Max would only feed certain brands of ammo, whereas being finicky has never been a Glock problem for me.
I’ve had my LCP max for about 2 years now. It has been reliable. Zero rust issues and I’m from humid Alabama. We carry it in a Vedder holster and love it. I did upgrade mine with the Mcarbo set up tho. It made that gun superb for what its purpose is. Some carry this as their main, but my main appendix carry is the Shield Plus PC. It has way more rounds thru it verses the LCP.
Good food for thought. Thanks
The basic Ruger LCP 380 (6+1) has been 100% reliable for me and cost half the price of the Glock 42 (6+1). Hammer sounds like a Glock fanboy. Next!!!
Glock 42. The Max’s 10/12+1 capacity is nice, but the trigger is garbage with a gap around the safety blade that bites the shit out of my finger, the grip is squared off and doesn’t work well with my hand, and no grip sleeve or aftermarket trigger shoe has been able to solve those issues with how my hands interact with the gun. And I know it wasn’t the gun’s fault because from a rest in slow fire it laid down 6” groups with cheap range ammo at 25 yards.
The G42, on the other hand, while needing real sights like any Glock, and benefitting greatly from a Pearce +1 baseplate, was laying down awesome groups at 25 yards in my hands. And oddly enough, the trigger pull feels better than my G45.
Am I still a little angry at the LCP Max, even after I sold it? Yes, but only because I wish Ruger made it to fit my hands, and not someone else’s.
Ultimately, eight rounds that I can hit with consistently trumps 13 rounds that I’ll send who knows where, even in ideal conditions, unless I’m shooting from a rest.
I like my LCP Max, but one more advantage the Glock 42 has is it's a little closer to tool-less. Sure you can futz the Max's pin out with a piece of brass or whatever, but it is just one more thing you don't have to deal with on the Glock (and a lot of other firearms).
Love my G42. Added a +1 extension which helps with capacity and shooting. However I’m hoping Glock redesigns it at some point to carry 10+1 plus improve the ergonomics, bevel the corners, add a rail and MOS mount. They had the right idea when they created it but it could be amazing. In general 380s are finicky but I’ve never had an issue with the G42. I like the longer barrel for accuracy and muzzle velocity over the other micro 380s.
i sent my 42 to primary machining and they did an optic cut for me. excellent job.
MOS cut for a pocket pistol??? Oh for Christs sake!! What’s the world coming to?
@@isaakjunkeer785 i don't pocket carry. being a senior citizen i want dots on every pistol. freedom to choose what's best for me. i enjoy shooting at the range and like to practice with all my collection out to 25 yards.

@@sr-ry7zdyea i bet he can hit his targets though. No need to be condescending.
I sold my 42, and bought an LCP 2. I never shot the LCP 2 because it didn’t feel “right” in my hand, or like anything I was used to. I thought the lighter weight would help me overlook that fact. Traded up for p365 at LGS. Required some more cash to make that transaction happen 😂
Lcp tenth anniversary for me. With 7 round mag. Light and 380 is cool and will do the job...if needed ! 😎.
Good point of view. I own several Glocks and really like them. All else being equal, I would carry one.
But all else ISN'T equal for me. I need TOTAL concealment and the LCP Max fits in a small, innocent-looking belt pouch. Once you deal with the quality issues (geez, does EVERY new LCP have magazine problems???) it's difficult - if not impossible - to beat the Max for its size/firepower ratio.
LCP Max is a pocket pistol , the Glock G42 is not, both serve difference purposes.
The 42 is definitely a pocket pistol. I’m only 160lbs and it fits in my pockets just fine
i carry a g26 in my front pocket all the time.
Thanks for the update HS, I had a feeling you would still be using the 42. 👍
All valid points but the LCP has that much more of a concealment advantage.
I'd still choose it over the Glock... after a shit load of malfunction free range time. Like any gun.
Depends on how you plan to carry. Decide on your carry method then shop for the gun.
It’s the 12 round mags that seem to have issues at the moment. I haven’t had issues with the 10rd mags.
I’m not a Glock guy but I have a few Rugers but no automatics except the Mark l . My 9mm is a CZ-PCR. But I chose the LCP MAX for backup and primary carry depending on my dress!! I don’t regret my choice like you don’t regret your choice! That’s why we have options!
Love love love your videos. Thank you!
The little bit bigger 380s never made much sense to me. A 380 is for pocket and ankle for me, the smaller the better. The Max’s better sights and a few more rounds make it an improvement over the previous models. Oh yeah, if I was going to go with the 42, I’d go with the 43.
Exactly. The 42 is already the biggest in its class
Love my G42! I carry it almost all the time. Wasn’t a fan of the G43.
The 42 is still a pocket gun for me.
@@kobudo What are you rocking, cargo pants?
@@localgunguy4992 What was the difference between the 42 and 43, half an inch each way? Isn’t everything else pretty much the same?
I have lcp gen 2, never a failure. I trust this guy, has no bias and had multiple issues w max mags. Others report issues w. G42 jams as well. I’ll stick w my current mouse gun, 7 rounds go bang every time, every ammo.
Makes sense they have higher quality control since it has to come from overseas mostly.
I often carry a little Kahr P380 when I don't want to carry a Sig P365.
The original LCP doesnt lock back in last round.
Had to send in my LCP Max as soon as I bought it. They fixed it immediately but it wouldn't load several times and would just get stuck. Scared to count on it with my life.
I went with the G42 after researching both guns and finding consistent issues with the Max, including one which really concerned me where the mag pops out while firing. I wanted a pocketable *reliable* gun so I noped away from the Max. Quality over quantity.
I have a LCP Max and it has been fine over the course of 300 rounds. I question its long term reliability though. Reason being, it feels cheap and not as well constructed as the Glock.
Good and informative video 👍
Thanks for your video, the lcp max is moving the gun industry in the right direction. I want a 380 small to carry on my pockets, that is also fun to shoot and have 10 rounds magazine magazines. If Ruger would fix recoil and trigger they have a winner. Maybe another company can do it better, Taurus, S&W or SIG !
Haven't used a Glock 42 so don't know about the slide but the slide on the Ruger is very easy to rack which makes it easier for me and my minor arthritis.
LCP Max is the best pocket pistol. I use a Vedder holster with the extended thumb tab and curved backing. Quick and easy for daily use.
Agreed ..reliability time and time again
I can't speak about the Glock but I really like my LCP Max. I carry the LCP Max often.
I actually carry a Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm SC. Gen 1. My home/ desk Gun is the police trade in M&P 9mm full-size. Magazine interchangeability between the 2 and low cost/high quality make them
An excellent choice 😊
😮😮😮😮
I don’t completely understand your logic in this video by saying that the function is the same with the 42 and your other glocks. I have glocks and Rugers and Caniks others, they all require a trigger pull the same way? Safety’s excluded. The reliability I understand, not the rest. Carrying a 42 means you have a 9mm size pistol without the power. I love and respect your videos.
small 9mm's suck to shoot accurately, small .380's are much easier to shoot fast and accurate.
If i was carrying a Glock 42, why not jump up to the 43 in 9mm?
shootability.
No issues with my lcp max
I own both this pistols. The Glock 42 is better in every single way except concealability.
A far fetched dream:
G10S
4" Barrel, slimline, 10mm, TFO Tritium Fiber optic sights.
Capacity: 7rd flush fit magazine. 9rd extended magazine.
Nobody has a slim, single stack, concealable and lightweight 10mm out.
There are slim 1911 types but not lightweight ones.
I sold my G42. Had random issues feeding SD ammo. It didnt matter what manufacturer. My Glock lacked perfection.
i have the lcp max its been good so far but either firearm should work if not ruger an glock have good cs
Well, only one of these is a pocket carry pistol (for my wardrobe anyway), so it’s not even an apples to apples comparison (and I have no Glocks).
The Glock is visually like a bar of butter with a handle grip size wise.
The *loaded* weight of these two is almost identical, as is the height and width. Lengthwise, the 42 is a little over half an inch longer. LCP Max has the edge with capacity, not so much with reliability.
Compare the lcp max and glock 28.💯🙂👊👌👍🙏
The 42 is HUGE!
I've never had a Glock fail me since I started carrying & shooting them since 1996
I carry the max as a backup to my Smith 642 5 shot revolver
LCP Max, pistol has had reliability issues, with recoil spring replaced from factory. I could only get off 3 rounds. Pistol gone for months for repair.
I just had the gun back factory still not clearing. Sent the to Gun Smith and he mill out the slide correct the condition.
He said poor mold quality situation. He video 50 rounds through it with out jam. This was not cheap and should sold the gun at pawn shop.
I am buying 42 ..I pocket carry. My 25 year old Kel-Tec 32 is better pistol than Ruger so far.
Can you pocket carry the 42 in jeans? That's what I'm looking for.
Had both....kept the glock.
the fact that you mentioned the pandemic tells us all we need to know
There are a lot of options that are the same size and capacity as the G42 but not a lot of options that are the same size and capacity as the LCP Max. Even the P365 in 380 looks big compared to it. Maybe the Seecamp 380 but you lose out on capacity
Seecamp 380 would your best to carry were you aren’t supposed to be, but smaller you go you sacrifice shoot-ability that should be prioritized more than round count especially if you have a good round and train often you shouldn’t be letting off more than 4 shots
@@eddiecrow9133 In the situations where deep concealment is necessary, I often do not have the luxury of carrying a spare mag so that's why I usually prioritize capacity for pocket guns

The LCP Max has problems with HP ammunition. People shouldn't be running HP ammo in 380 in the first place. This really the only downside to the Max. Edit: Reliability is an actual issue with the Max. Your grip has to be correct and tight or the gun will jam.
Much rather have the Ruger
Glock shmock... spend more for the basic gun then hundreds more to make it useable. Pass.
Pretty much. Glock Perfection, just need new sights and a trigger kit!
Factory trigger in my G42. Shoots perfect.
@@localgunguy4992Love the stock trigger in mine too.
People love to complain about the sights on a Glock but the low cost of mags can easily offset the additional cost of sights when compared to many other guns. Though Ruger’s mags are reasonable. Compared to the likes of Sig, though, a Glock, sights, and four extra mags is a way better deal than a Sig and four additional mags.

Less rounds, less convenient and shit sights.

All I know is if you carry the Glock in your front pocket like I do my LCP Max, everybody is going to really think you are excited to see them! Seriously though...don't be a Glockhead. The Ruger goes bang every time!
My lvl max never jammed
🤔 now that I’ve heard your take, I’m kinda leaning back towards the Glock. Along with you pointing out reliability issues, which is exactly why I own a Glock43x, you’ve persuaded me to stay away from the “allure of micro 380!” Coming back dow to earth, the obvious choice (which wasn’t so obvious till now), is reliability. End of story.
I have both got the 42 first hate it , most unreliable gun i have ever bought so many FTF my ruger runs flawless so far when i go light the ruger is it , so many guns make 42 obsolete my p365 and others about same size and double the capacity.
Pandemic is over dude unless you know something new. Coming?
Wym...Its already here. The Purge is happening
A 6 rounds bad trigger Glock vs. 12 round Max. and you pick the Glock over your perception of more reliability. That is false and defies logical thought ...You are not operating the Max properly. Do your research and you will find your grip is why the slide is not staying back after the magazine is spent.
Gunsmith friend of mine thinks the gun, in general, has lousy build quality.
The LCP max is my go to, my wife carries the LCP2 and I don't care what she's wearing, how tight it is she can hide that little LCP, and my summertime shorts on the beach, LCP max is perfect... Just get you some underwood deep penetrators and guarantee a no jam
😂
Ruger ugly. But the Glocks a special kind of ugly.
Lcp is too small. The glock 42 is already small why go smaller even if the lcp max has more capacity
