- Choosing between two single stack small Glock pistols: the Glock 42 & Glock 43. Hope this helps you select the right one for you. We will also show you which one Striker prefers. The Glock 42 is chambered in .380 and the Glock 43 is in 9mm. Soon, there will also be a Glock 43X and a similar Glock 48 to choose from as well - approximately Jan 19, 2019 (?)

I also have a Glock 26 as my EDC. The 42 is perfect for when you aren't wearing a belt because it is so lightweight. Whenever I'm wearing basketball shorts I throw the 42 in a pocket holster. Best pocket gun out there in my opinion.
The 43 is the only Glock that I have shot that I wouldn’t buy and I’ve shot a bunch. I have large hands and just can’t Rapidfire without readjusting the gun but the 42 with its very low recoil shots like a dream. I live in Florida and wanted a small but very shootable gun and the G42 fit the bill for me.
Key word is shootability. People just dont know how great the g42 shoots. Aside from being too big to pocket carry. Pocket carry is not tactical or practical imo.
I own both and like the G42 much better. I pocket carry the G42. The G42 for a small pocket gun is a pleasure to shoot. The G43 I find to be very snappy. A G42 in the pocket with a spare mag is a winning hand.
I have been debating on getting a secondary carry weapon and the Glock 42 is the one I’ve chosen once I get the money so it’s nice to see so many positive reviews for it.
How about 2 G42s to have a spare G42 on you just in case? I love the G42, too! I just got me one. The compactness. I also plan to try out the Kahr P380 which I believe is even smaller than the G42.
@@opaquely Am I? LOL
@@opaquely 👄👩
@@opaquely FYI, I am planning to get me a G43 in the very near future and then I will have both. I'd say the main reason I went for the G42 was so I could have literally the smallest Glock on the market.
.380 is severely underrated for personal defense but making a comeback and starting to gain popularity as ballistic gel tests prove the round is very capable of penetrating and doing damage. Deep concealment, effective rounds, and a lot of great choices out there.
@ColtDeltaElite10mm if it fails significantly, then why do you like it?
@ColtDeltaElite10mm It dosent fail significantly. Watch the video made by Lucky gunner titled Is .25 ACP Literally the Worst Self-Defense Cartridge. In that video Chris from Lucky gunner shows a study about stopping power. The study shows that .380 failed to stop a threat in 16% of shootings it was used in. 9x19, .40 and .45 had 13-14% failures. In my opinion 2-3% is not significant. He shows the study at around 8 min. mark.
@ColtDeltaElite10mm The study wasn't done by Lucky Gunner and it wasn't a lab test. It was a study about 1800 real life shootings. Go watch the video and you will see.
65 grain Underwood 380 Xtreme Defender- Say bye, bye baby!
@@PTK256 thank you for this enlightening comment! Much appreciated.
I have both, love them both.
Different dress scenarios determine what I use. Dress pants & suits = 42 & for all other occasions = 43. Love them both.
I own both the 42 and 43. I find myself always stuffing the 42 in a pocket holster or jacket pocket most of the time without thinking about it. I guess I just like the 42 over the 43 more. The 42 is just super easy to cary at all times, carries enough rounds to handle most self defense scenarios when out and about running errands and I have no problem hitting a head sized target at 45ft every time I practice. Great little carry gun.
I prefer the G42 and own both G42 and G43. The slightly smaller size of the G42 makes a difference if pocket carrying. I like how shootable the G42 is with low recoil.
I chose the 42 instinctively. Turns out all the things you covered confirmed my decision. Very happy with my 42. The gun is extremely well made. I recommend everyone study the manual thoroughly. Thanks for a great video.
The 43 is too light for a 9mm. Too much recoil and the trigger guard digs into my index finger after every shot. I love my 42.
Same.
Same🎉
Very well stated perspective and I agree very much. I love my 42 so much and carry it during the work week because of being able to pocket it with the Boraii holster. Gave it some Trijicon fiber optics and a Pearce Plus 1 extension. Feed it Underwood Defenders and I'm all set.
Really nice vid, thanks for your time.
Very informative and helpful video. Thank You!
Thx .. always great videos ..very soothing and informative .
Very thorough reviews. Great job.
Thank you.
Have the 43, 43X & 48 & love them all but after carrying for awhile I've really became interested in the Glock 42. Never had a 380 but I feel a smaller gun for deep concealment is highly desirable to me.
I know this is a Glock review…But try considering a Ruger LCP. It is far more concealable than the G 42. It has the same magazine capacity and literally fits in the palm of your hand. Yes, it will be a little snappier, because it is so small and light. But as far as conceal ability, you can’t beat it! I have one, and I absolutely love it for concealed carry. Especially during the summer months when you’re wearing lighter clothing. The Blackhawk pocket holster I use is size number 2, and covers the gun completely, and it’s kind of sticky on the outside, so that when you draw the gun out, the holster won’t slide out with it. When it’s in your pocket, it nice and secure, it doesn’t print, and you almost forget that it’s there! Just another option to consider that’s all.
@@jimbigboystoys4077 thanks for advice. God bless.
@@douglasphillips24 you’re a glock guy, you’ll much prefer the 42. I guarantee it
Get the magguts +1 springs proven well it will make your Glock 42 a 7+1, River lcp is much snappier
Thank you for the professional tips.
42 nice. If a 42 is good for a back up. It is also great for a go to. Well dealing in moose country 44 mag is needed. But my 42 can keep pace with a 9er. 380 is a 9 er actually! Like a 6 cylinder sports car vs an 8 near the same price. Put a manual in the 6 and watch it keep up.
Thank you this was super helpful
I have a Gen 3 Glock 26, then I purchased my Glock 43 two years ago. I love both but I carry the 43 a bit more than the 26 but I also have a .380 which I carry more than both Glocks and this is my LCP II. I love all three and practice with them twice a month and I have become very good with all three, so I'm very confident with whichever gun I choose. My Gun Life is GOOD!
Great comparison Hammer! I still can't decide which one? But thanks for the look at these two fine pistols.
Thank you.
Great video, very informative thank you!
Thank you.
thanks for showing the difference. i were looking for pocket pistol with 9mm ammo capacity.
I sure feel a lot safer since you showed clear 😆. But excellent comparison. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
Thank you.
We do occasionally get a question about the "Show Clear" - here is why: We (and other channels like ours) do that for a purpose, it is because there are different reasons people come to CZcams. Some come purely for entertainment (which is great), but many are new to firearms and come to CZcams to learn. As safe handling procedures are the most important factor of dealing with firearms, reinforcing it is important. An inexperienced shooter viewing our videos (or others with similar mindset) will be reminded of the need to be very aware of the state of the weapon in addition to following the other safety procedures. Every once in a while you hear of somebody being shot by an "unloaded gun" (obviously it wasn't) or during the cleaning procedure. Hopefully reinforcing the need to clear a weapon that is going to be handled for a reason other than actually firing it may educate somebody and prevent a tragedy.
Another great video, thanks. I have a g-42 and love it.
Thank you.
I own several Glock handguns. 42 380acp is my Favorite! Love it! Shoots Excellent with Zero Negative Issues.
I use a 10 round mag gives me more handle to grab on to.
Good information, thank you.
Thank you.
And. Not to mention they make +4 mag extension for both the 42 and 43 to make the gun 10+1 so I just carry the g42 with the Lehigh extreme defender with 1 or 2 10 round back up mags and Barely notice Im carrying anything
Absolute best comparison video on the 42/43. Helped me make some great decisions
Thank you.
I just bought my 42 for all those reasons. Primarily as a pocket gun. I wouldnt bother carrying it IWB or OWB, if I'm going that route, I take my 19 or 36. I will say that the 42 is about the biggest pocket pistol I can manage, as its pretty blocky and you can see it in my jeans, but not my tactical trousers (5.11 apex). But I was carrying a Keltec in my pocket but the very first mag of +P rendered the gun unusable, so I then opted for the Glock which I have confidence in. Good video comparison BTW.
Thank you.
I bought the G42 when it first rolled out and over time, I have long fingers with my hand, and managed to become very good even with the two-finger hold to 25yds! I also had obtained the G26/4 as the G19 was unavailable locally (high demand). I actually shot and handled the two finger ops and loved it. Then, I gained the G19/4 and my world changed. As more I shot the G19 and less the G26, and both in dimensions and weights were so close, I moved my carry to the G19/4 and loved it. When the G43 rolled out, I decided to wait and here what the market said by moving the 9mm to a much smaller platform than the G26. Then I range rented and after 50rds traded my G26 off for the G43 and not sorry. Either two finger hold or combat or off-hand, it filled the gap between my desire to carry light and concealed should I want more than my G42. If ever a round count is a problem, there still is my G19/4 OR my G23/5 which I can carry as well. The G42 or G43 are both Great Shooters if willing to spend some time with them. P.S. The G43X lacks conceal ability with it’s G19 grip length (10rds) and again, if round-count at times is a problem then it’s my G19/G23. Barrel length of the G42/G43 also lends to ability to Point-Shoot before you can obtain a sight picture.
I own a 43. I like it but I’ve always wondered if I should have gone with the 42. The 43 is just a bit snappy while the 42 is smoother than butter. Don’t get wrong, I can group the shit out of a 43 and 42, its just that follow up shot placement is easier on the 42 making it slightly a quicker shooter. When it comes to a real world scenario, quickness while being accurate is a primary factor for a concealed firearm
The 42 is MUCH smoother than the 43. The 42 is one of the best handling pistols I've ever shot, and I've got a bunch of Glocks.
H. V IMO, the biggest advantage of the G42 is the weight difference as mentioned in vid..even though both are very close in size, the weight difference is huge! makes it that much easier to carry..
@@D.L.W. just shot my g34 and g42 today first time... the g34 was actually alot easier, i suppose since its such a bigger gun
My EDC for the past 5 years was the Taurus Spectrum, which never failed with professional defense 380 ammo. However, I also have the Glock 19 and 43X. They're just too large for me to carry. Weather and clothing causes me to pocket carry. This year I finally picked up the Glock 42, which is just slightly larger than my Spectrum. However, it is clearly more accurate and has great Glock reliability. I installed MagGuts spring/follower in my Glock 42 magazine, giving it 7 rounds in the same space. For my spare mag, I installed Strike Industries EMP +2, which gives 8 rounds, plus allows all fingers to grip the 42. The 42 has finally replaced my Spectrum for EDC.
I recommend against magguts for a carry gun. Test it often for reliability and prepare for the spring to fail in a very low round count. They are a novelty tbh. In my experience they are cool for 500-1000 rounds then you will start having spring issues.
It's kind of funny how deeply it can be rationalized. I see mostly comparing the 'snappiness' but I also know a lot of people who would prefer landing 1 9mm than 2 .380's. I feel like this is where Civil Defense rounds in 50gr or any other exotic sub 90gr rounds come into play and I wonder how they shoot from a 42.
have both you made my head spin nice video..
Thank you.
Decent video - thanks.
Thank you.
Great video
Thank you.
Can you do the thunder .380, or glock 42 vs a glock 44? I know the 44 is a .22lr cal but I'm curious how the glock 22 cal will stand against a 380
Great video, would the two Glocks fit into the same holster? Like the G19 & G26 does. Thanks and all the best
I actually bought the 43 first then bought the 42 about two years later. Because I have a gun addiction problem and needed it. Anyways, if I end up needing to carry a single stack the 42 just carries so much lighter and slimmer. Looking at the number differences on paper just don’t show the real picture until you actually live with them and wear them on you. Also, the the 43 shoots fine, but the 42 shoots great.
I have a Gen 3 Glock 26, then I purchased my Glock 43 two years ago. I love both but I carry the 43 a bit more than the 26 but I also have a .380 which I carry more than both Glocks and this is my LCP II. @Adrian Diaz right in the feels
Glock 42 with the pierce plus one grip extensions is the best most comfortable carry i have ever had. So light you forget its there while having more grip surface then the micro .380s
Would you trust a 380 during winter?
@@thepoliticallyindependent1512 since I do headshots yeah
I like the Glock 42 in the 380 Cal.I load mine with Hornady Critical Defense, which is a great personal defense round??
Thank you for the comparison.
agree! so do I carrie 2 42s!!
42 kicks a lot less and can almost be pocket carry. Probably will be my super deep concealment pistol
I just bought a g42 a week ago specifically for the size and weight. I love being able to wear gym shorts and be able to carry without the weight pulling my shorts down.
I have a g42....actually its the first glock pistol ive owned.....i have to say I love it.
And this is why they should've already manufactured the G42X but they don't listen to their customers. Ruger beat them to it when they released the LCP MAX! 🙄
In a well done ammo test the Precision One XTP 380 performed the best. Perfect petals and 13” penetration. It makes the 380 ACP legitimately lethal and with the Plus One extension it’s a 7 shot gun. Also add the Talon rubber grips and you’re good to go.
I have a 19, 26, 43 and Ruger original LCP Custom. I now live in Florida and my "uniform" is tee shirt, shorts and sandals. The 19 is too large for me to carry. I like shooting the 26 but I need to lose weight for AIWB carry under tee shirts unless I buy them so large I step on them 🙂. And the 26 is a bit heavy for Mr. Lazy.I shoot the 43 reasonably well if not shooting rapid follow-up shots. And I shoot the LCP well. It's the gun I carry when "I'm not carrying". But I wanted a larger flat shooting pistol, larger than the LCP, no larger than the 43, and smaller would be better, flatter shooting than the 43 and easier to operate and grip in an emergency situation than the LCP. My G42 arrives next week 🙂
I solved this issue by buying both. 🤣 But I carry my 42 more than my 43 due to the ease of carry and extreme concealability.
I have been looking for a handgun for my wife (small hands) but I’m starting to like G42 so much I would love to buy one for myself so I can carry it comfortably during summer time. CZ P10C is not that comfortable in summer.
The 42 is definitely a fun shooter. Got hands on one the other day ago at the range and immediately went and bought one.....and no...my girlfriend doesn't get it.
Best gun review ever
Thank you.
An additional ounce isn't much considering the extra functionality. I've carried an ounce around before and nobody noticed.
.380 did fine for J.B. It will do fine for me on the few occasions I take a smaller then 9mm lol
I own the G42 and the G43x, I find myself carrying the 42 more in appendix carry, with a Ruger LCP max or the J-frame as a backup either in the pocket or the ankle.
I own an m&p 2.0 compact, with a holosun and tlr7 on it, that never gets carried and just stays in the car in a fanny pack, and an lcp max, which i will pocket carry when im confident on the range with it, i want either a g42 or 43 so i can have one gun in the pocket and one on the ankle, to be able to draw from standing or sitting down in my car. And finally have the aftermarket support of glock, im leaning more towards the 42 for that.
I own both the 42 and 43. Both are amazing guns!!! I pocket carry my 42 with decent size pocket in a sticky holster. I carry my 43 in a IWB Kydex holster.
Can the 43 be pocket carried?
@thegeth4293 yes, if you have deep enough pockets.
I pocket the 42, but carry the 26+2 w/laser with extra 17+2 mag. Both have Hogue grips. The 30 rnd mag is nice too, although heavy in the 26. The 17 stays at home.❤
How far can you shoot the 42? Thanks.
.380 is an underestimated caliber
I carry Glock43 and shot Glock42 before. .380 ACP ammos are expensive. That's the reason I chose Glock43.
Where is that picture taken at the end of the video?
Good thing we have choices. I'd definitely go 42 here. The 43X makes the 43 lose a lot of appeal. It's just much harder to shoot overall.
In this case I agree. However, even before the 43x I preferred the 42. Sure less power, bit I shoot it way better. The 43 in my opinion isn't as easy to shoot as my shield or other comparable sized guns. The 42 in my opinion is the 19 of the pocket guns. Can I wear in my belt/waist band with an extended mag and still be concealed? Yes. Can I pocket it easier than the 43? Yes. Is the 42 easier to shoot than it's smaller competition? Yes. Also, the 42 is the only gun I can get my mom to willingly shoot all the time and carry all the time. 43 is good. But I think the 43x with shield arms mags is a better option. If that's too big, the 42 is best. Remember people this is my opinion.
42 at the coffee shop... 43 truck gun... Remington Tac 14 20ga home defense.
I've been curious about a 42, but it would be my only .38 so I've been hesitant to introduce a new caliber. Thanks for the video and cheers!
I had the same concern but got the 42 anyway. Mine needed an inexpensive trigger job which was a big improvement.
I already had the Ruger Lc9s which I find very difficult to shoot. I would not recommend the very small 9s. Very snappy and for me difficult to get back on target. I’m also hard pressed to see where the 380 wouldn’t do the job but the small 9 would. If you go to those places take a bigger gun.
Thank you. We have gone the other way and cover almost every caliber out there, even during the ammo crisis a few years ago we were able to go out with something when the itch needed scratching.
Hammer Striker So I understand, are you saying that it is advisable to have a caliber alternative and not be relying solely on 9mm? Thanks!
Absolutely. For three basic reasons:
1) Carry alternatives - you will likely hear this one a lot: "Dress to the gun not the other way around" and it sounds great when sitting around the range stroking Desert Eagles. However, in practice you are often limited to certain dress due to events (funerals, weddings, finer restaurants, etc.) . Having small, single-stack options in calibers such as .380 can be very useful when a 1/2 inch may mean the difference between going out unarmed or not. On the flip side - we have bears, gators, panthers and bobcats in Florida, when I go out hunting my sidearm is 10mm since I want to make sure I have the power to dispatch a threat.
2) Cross training - being able to pick up and shoot anything that is presented to you. Whether at the range for fun or in a crisis situation where your buddy's .40 S&W is the only option you have.
3) Manufactured crises - every time the "gun grabbers" start up with an appearance of successfully initiating a ban - ammo can become scarce, most recently around the Sandy Hook incident. I remember ranges rationing 9mm and .22lr for a long time. Having a bit of caliber diversity ensures your training and/or just fun can continue uninterrupted.
Hammer Striker thank you very much. I learn so much from your videos and your answers to my questions. Thank you for taking the time to respond and explain. Cheers!
Any plans to compare the G42 and the Sig Sauer P365 380?
Soon, very soon
They are both very close to size. I carry my 43 most of the time but if I'm dressing light I carry my LCP 2. Yea it's 22LR but it's more compact with 11 rounds. Most people may say 22lr aint going to do shit but let me tell you this. If you get shot 11 times with a .22lr up close trust and believe you are not gonna have good day!!!
I have the 42 it’s great for edc
I went with the g43 mainly because I can find 9mm much easier. .380 is so scarce and expensive right now.
What kind of laser is on the 42
Ive watched so mamy comparison videos. Not only did this make me wanna trade my 19 for a 26 but it for sure landed me back on g42. The caliber propaganda is real lol. But exactly like u said weight is the whole point of a micro. g42 wins for me. Great video!
It is real. I recently bought the 42 and have a few 9mm’s…. I’m not concerned at all about 380 not being enough, I just wish more people would buy into 380 so the ammo price would come down.
Thank you.
Very nicely done....I subscribed
Thank you.
Its all about penetration, speed and control👍🏻
I went with the 365
I carry both in the summertime wearing shorts.
Just bought one. Wauting for bsckround check. Have a feeling I will be more accurate with the 42 than my G19 gen 5. Less recoil ...cant wait to try it. Almost got a hellcat..think I msde the right choice...
Howd that go? Im on the fence about this or the taurus gx4
If you don't have a 380 and are looking for one, the Glock 42 is the champ. I even say that as a Ruger LCP 2 owner.
Glock should not have even made the 43 imho. Fortunately they fixed that by making the 43x and 48.
Do the 42 and 43 use the same mags?same size and shape?
Rabin Boedhoe no
The 42 is a .380 and uses a smaller mag than the 43, they are not interchangeable at all.
I currently use a 27 but sometimes it seems like a brick I'm carrying around
I own both and love both. All hail King Glock!
Kinda wish I got the 42 now, bought the 43 just over a year ago, I just wanted the smallest lightest possible Glock
Waiting for an 80% 42
I dont trust a 380 to get the job done if needed. Either way i went with a sig p365 , smaller then both and holds 10+1
Hasn’t there been a lot of problems with the firing pin of the sig p365? Just been reading up on a lot of different guns and that’s what I’ve read that a lot of owners have said. Perhaps the problem has been fixed. I’ve been reading up on a lot of guns for everyday carry and the ones I’ve heard of the most from people are the Taurus gx4, sig sauer p365 and glock 42.
365 is bigger has more problems, & more recoil. good luck.
I have a 42, 43, and 43x and I still prefer my makarov. The 9x18 makarov is bigger than a 380, not as big as a 9mm buy cheaper ammo. The makarov kicks ass but it a bit bigger than a 42
Why choose one when you can choose both
maybe take the laser off the 26 for size comparison
42 with underwood defender ammo.
Underwood for everything ammo related even their range ammo is fantastic.
Have you had any problems in the 42 with underwood extreme defender ?
I know they'll fly off the shelves, But why( the 43x & 48) a single stack that holds 10 It's got to be near G19 size and holds 5 less.
The .43X will be basically the "Glock 365" and the 48 will be roughly equivalent to the XDs series.
People talk about the difference in size and weight between the G42 & G43 when carrying concealed, well the difference in size and weight between the G19 and G43X is huge, much more noticeable. The 43X is lean and much lighter than the G19, and is very comfortable to carry. I love the G19 and carry it often, but it's much bigger, thicker and heavier than the 43X. The 43X makes the G26 obsolete in my mind. ( Of course I'm LEO so I don't worry about printing ever, which I know some are concerned about with the length of the grip on a 43X vs. a G26) And for the 48, I think that is only for the poor folks who live in a 10 round max mag state.
Don’t forget the 42 is in 9mm also. in the states it’s termed the 380! 9mm short it’s known as everywhere else!
😂
If the difference from 9mm to .380 is such a factor for you then just use hollow points for the .380.
Im no ballistics expert, but many youtubers have demonstrated 380 prettt much will expand OR penetrate, but not both. There may be a few select hollow points, but if you want the round to actually get to vital organs, you should probably stick to fmj
The G42 is a great pocket pistol.
Too big for pocket carry. Unless you are a big dude. Pocket carry not tactical or practical imo.
Love my 42 & 26.
Have shit the 43 many times and have no desire to own one. Feel like it's an unnecessary "in between".
We american neednto start calling the 380 9mm short or 9x17 so you know 9mm luger is only 9x19...so if u got a 380 or 9x17 get your 380 ammo in plus p....boom u got a 9mm especially if u get it in 105 or 115 gr!!!
