    We were there in 2018. It was the first City in Europe where I felt at home. We were there in the summer. The weather was perfect, and we found the people to be very cordial to us as tourists. I would sincerely like to return someday. Great food, pastry, and chocolate. Shopping for most anything was nearby and I especially liked all the watch shops. Language was not a barrier for us as English speakers, except in the Oris shop. Our fault, not theirs. All in all we loved it there.

      Ja das stimmt, ich bin Basler und sogar Basler Bürger und ich kenne keine schönere Stadt wie Basel, wenn Basel nur nicht so überfremdet wäre so dass man sich als waschechter Basler in seiner eigenen Heimat nicht mehr wohl fühlt ... ja das ist leider so !!!

    • @celloswiss
      @celloswiss Před 3 lety +6

      @@pauligysin Welch totaler Schwachsinn, den Sie hier von sich geben. Basel ist nicht "überfremdet". Von Basler zu Basler.

      @@celloswiss Ok, für Ihre Antwort gibt es 4 mögliche Erklärungen:
      - Sie laufen mit Tomaten auf den Augen herum und wollen die Realität einfach nicht sehen
      - Sie sind von der SP und Basel ist leider sehr stark in den Händen der SP
      - Sie sind von den Grünen und das ist noch schlimmer wie die SP
      - Oder Sie wollen die Realität einfach nicht sehen und meinen mit Schönreden würde sich die Situation ändern
      Sorry, ich bin auf dem Bruderholz aufgewachsen und ging im Gündülü (damals noch Gundeli) in die Schule. Wir hatten damals noch Geschichtsunterricht, ich weiss heute noch sehr viel über die Schweizer Geschichte ... heute gibt es keine Schweizer Geschichte mehr an der Schule, logisch, klar, wie soll Schweizer Geschichte dem Schüler unterrichtet werden wenn 2/3 der Schüler Ausländer sind (sorry man sagt ja Mitbürger mit Migrationshintergrund das tönt schöner aber auf Baseldeutsch sagt man dem "ein fremder Fötzel")
      Das ging so weit dass ich mich in meiner Heimat nicht mehr zu Hause fühlte und seit dem lebe ich auf den grossen Antillen, dort wo andere Ferien machen, aber weit weg vom Tourismus, weit weg von Europäern und Amis. Hier haben wir auch keine Türken, keine Jugos und keine Albaner denn hier gibt es keine Sozialhilfe wo man gemütlich davon leben kann. Ich habe meinen Job komplett geändert und pflanze heute Bäume an, Bäume die auf der roten Liste für aussterbende Arten sind, darum hat das Holz auch einen dementsprechenden Preis und da ich diese Bäume auf eigenem Land in Plantage anpflanze habe ich auch die Bewilligung die Bäume zu fällen und das Holz zu verkaufen.
      Wenn ich jetzt nach Basel komme lasse ich mich in einem Hotel im Gross-Basel nieder, diese Reisen sind aber nur um Sachen einzukaufen die ich hier nicht bekomme, das fängt aber schon bei Roggen und Dinkelmehl an und geht weiter bis zu Landwirtschaftlichen Geräten und Traktoren da ich keine John Deere Maschinen will. Sonst ist es mir sehr wohl in der Karibik da habe ich meine Schmiede, meine Schreinerei mit Europäischen Maschinen und den Forstbetrieb und da spreche ich von ein paar hundert Hektaren (paar klein geschrieben) also was soll ich noch im überfremdeten Basel ... der grösste Fehler der da gemacht wurde war dass die Schwarzenbach-Initiative abgelehnt wurde, dass Basel von der SP regiert wird, die Personenfreizügigkeit mit der EU und dass alles nicht komplett aus dem Ruder läuft haben wir zum Glück noch Christof Blocher und die SVP die leider auch nicht mehr das ist was sie mal war. Also liebe Grüsse an das überfremdete Gross-Basel

      @@pauligysin ☺ ein Fremder in der Karibik spricht über Fremde in Basel. Und Sie denken nicht 1 Sekunde darüber nach, dass Sie selbst ein Ausländer (in der Karibik) sind.
      Sie haben auch das Video nicht verstanden. Basel ist nunmal Basel, weil die Stadt seit immer international ist. Das macht die Stadt so Lebenswert.

Also, people can easily walk in the city as well. I think you should visit Freiburg and talk about the hike to Black Forest.

    Switzerland in 1972 and 1979, when my
    parents and I had vacationed there I hope
    to visit Switzerland again one day, and my
    Mother's side of the family was from Zurich.
    Her nephew was a Dr. Med. from Zurich too,
    and also lived in Bern, I saw the Bears 🐻
    there, and had a chalet in Saanen above
    Gstaad. A friend of my Mother and us was
    from Zug. We used to go until 1992 to the
    Swiss national day at the Swiss Home in
    Mt Kisco, NY north of New York City, where
    there was food and festivities in Summer.
    They had Zuger Kircshtorte from Switzerland
    and the Swiss ambassador would address us there. I believe that year was the 700th
    anniversary of Swiss Confederation One
    of my Doctors in the US graduated from

    Lived in Basel for a couple of years and loved it for the first year---then the police started controlling me as I headed to university, to Weil am Rhein, to the park to exercise, essentially, whenever I was alone or with anybody Black, but never with white colleagues... I got sick and tired and turned bitter towards it. I moved to Bern and have been controlled only once here in 3 years. It sucks to get controlled at all, but I'll take once here, versus nearly 15 times in my second year in Basel. Pity, because I loved Basel at first.

      Well, you get controlled in Basel because it is a border town. I am white and I get controlled all the time, even in Germany I got controlled last year when I was walking normally in the port area. A border town is full of border police, which is not the case with Bern. Stop being racist!

    Agree on most what you say, but there are many downsides to Basel, especially due to too extreme socialist politics (high amount of drug and alcohol abuse, open drug trade, crime and violence at night, even in better areas, not just Kleinhüningen, Breite or the center).
    And about bicycles, they are more than often reckless and are a joke around Swiss people who visit Basel, also this is due to politics.

      Most Swiss cities are actually governed by the left, and they still can be described as very clean, friendly, calm and safe by international standards. Making inner cities car free actually contributed a lot to their attractiveness. After all, bicycles, even if ridden recklessly, hardly kill as many pedestrians compared to cars. and they don't cause traffic jams.

      Not really. All major Swiss cities are governed by the left, which doesn't make them less attractive, on the contrary. They tend to be clean, with lots of urban transit and car free, walkable city centers. In Basel, the left rule dates back probably a bit longer than in most other cities, apart from Biel.

      I understand your point but it's a fact that in most votings Basel is one of few if not the only big city in Switzerland voting for the more liberal thing than all the other cities. If you look at votingmaps you always see Basel voting different than the other big cities. He could have used other words to say it but I think it is an important fact to know if you wanna visit Basel. You can't visit some parts of Basel if you're extremly konservative. I mean very extreme like neonazis.

      @@celloswiss "ill-informed propaganda" i've been to basel for tourism 4 times just this year. While clean, it's not as touristic as Colmar, Freiburg, Strasbourg or even Mulhouse. Very few green spaces/water canals in the city center, boring old city (due to protestantism forcing bland architecture in the 18th century), new city is literally all asphalt, rhein walk is a tiny dirt path with no forest/flowers/etc... It's very functional but not very beautiful to look at.

    • @MrJm323
      @MrJm323 Před 3 lety +1

      "Green spaces"?!? ....It doesn't need green spaces because, in very short order, you can be out in Baselland (a short drive or train ride) -- which is practically a giant green space. The asphalt is designed so that you can avoid walking and driving through the mud!! ....Next, you'll be complaining that it has modern sewerage! ...."too much utilitarian architecture"? This isn't Disneyland, you know!

    • @user-ju8qg9dx9x
      @user-ju8qg9dx9x Před 3 lety +1

      @@MrJm323 interesting logic you have. Asphalt is a bland monochromatic layer with no motives or style, that greatly increases city temperature during heat waves and smells bad when it's hot.
      Enough asphalt for sidewalks and roads is good, but having literally zero trees or grass is sad.
      Baselland is a park, if you want to see it you need to stop what you're doing and go there. Green spaces must be distributed around the city and integrated into the infrastructure.
      I mean you don't even need to look far for good urbanism. Freiburg is just a few dozen km away.
      "This isn't disneyland" why do you pay taxes to the city council if you don't want them to make the city liveable?
