So far the story has been told really well, despite some cringey parts in the series. The actress playing Selena gets better as the series progresses. I'll give her credit she actually sounds like Selena when she's talking. But considering a 2nd season is coming, I hope she dives alot deeper and embodies more of Selena's characteristics in the coming season.

But why does the actress that plays Selena speak w a Bronx accent? It’s lime she’s conjuring JLo not Selena. JLo didn’t drop her Bronx accent when she had her turn in the role that doesn’t mean Selena had that accent lol. The girl they cast to play little Selena-great! Older Selena not so much. It’s like the makers of the show expect us to believe she lost her Latino accent (and her brown skin) when she grew up. Oh and magically gained a NY accent.

While Christian was performing, there were too many cuts from her waist and up - to the point where you would only see her lip since for 0.5 seconds till it cut to a different person. I guess it’s to hide the lack of performance ability of the actor. I wanted to see her do her iconic twirls. I feel like Jlo definitely captured Selena’s characteristics more that Christian.

It’s crazy how she had fans from every race. I’m a black girl from Louisiana and she was always played at our family reunions and get togethers. Music is the language of the world and Selena was definitely one of music’s angels. I can’t imagine what it was like seeing her perform live. ♥️

JLo actually lived with the Quintanillas and even slept on Selena’s bed. She said she didn’t feel like she was making a movie, she felt she was making a memorial and she took and did this roll with a lot of respect and honor to Selena and her family. By the way, Jon Seda who plays Selena’s husband is of puertorrican parents too. Jon stayed best friends with Chris, the real Selena’s husband.

"Brilliant" means that even though she didn't sing anything, she should still have won. No. In the movie Abraham had less control and Gregory Nava could portray him more authentically. In the series, Abraham's flaws were severely censored.

Ok I’ve watched all of part one because Selena is truly a huge inspiration in my life. I have to say that the actress does look like J lo, but I really like how they are focusing on the family dynamic. I think it’s great to see a new side of Selena . I admire them for making it a series young girls can watch to look up to Selena.
I do see potential for this series. I didn't like in the movie where she was one minute performing at a carnival then the next, she was a star. It would have been interesting to see the rise.

GREAT Netflix Series. It brings Selena to life for people who knew who not and celebrates the many facets of her wonderful character and personality. Probably the best series I have ever seen by Netflix.

This series really isn''t easy to get through. Definitely hits hard, taking you back to that time even with your own family.
They did a great job, as a fan, I was 13 when she died, still its hard to look throughout these moments of her life. Every son played in this show really took me back to those years. 👏 Amazing.

I watched the series. I thought it was great. Selena’s story wasn’t the only story to tell. Her family was her number one and by sharing their experiences also shared her story. She wasn’t the main focus of story in the series but rather her whole family on a journey with their band.

I remember hearing Selena's story for the first time in 1997 when I was thirteen years old. I was so moved by it that when I reached high school, I convinced my Spanish teacher to include it in her curriculum as part of her classes that week including ours. I am not a Latina, but her story has continued to inspire me in the years since then and she has been an important role model in my life. She was once quoted as saying "The goal is not to live forever, but to create something that will". While it would be far better to have her with us today, her legacy has definitely lived on and will continue to touch others' lives for good. Selena Vive! =)

This show brings back so many memories of growing up in a musical family. On stage with my dad and feeling that connection. Whatever the drama in real life I'm happy this show made me remember that.

I am willing to give this a chance but this Selena is so skinny and white. Look up pictures of Selena. My girl was brown and thick like oatmeal.
This actress, Christian Serratos, is actually half Mexican and Half Italian, which doesn’t quite make her “white.” Selena wasn’t exuberantly thick either, and was actually quite thin herself but her figure was very well taken care of. If you were to go to her museum, where the family had custom mannequins made to properly display her clothes which she made by and for HERSELF, you’d come to find that Selena was t i n y, she was just gifted waist/hip proportions by the gods themselves.

@@gyselleflores8239 great points but what I was referring to is her actual skin tone. If you look at pictures of Selena through out her life she was brown. I remember that being a mind blowing moment. Back in those time the average Latin star was very Euro-centric look. But to see a girl as brown as anyone else on your block was amazing. That why people called her of the Pueblo. But I’m keeping a mostly open mind about this. I am willing to give it chance.

I can never watch anything with Selena without chocking up. It’s just so hard not too. I meant the trailer got me all chocked up. Credit to the actress and actresses who have portrayed her for keeping her alive and keep us having hope that anything is possible even with all the adversity and through these hard times I know it’s not an easy task stepping in her heels hehe. Can we all just appreciate the fact that Selena is still relevant almost 26 years after her death? People who never even heard of Selena will see this and hear her music. And her hairstyles in this trailer are ON POINT. She's not Selena's clone, but I think she looks like her.
She kind of looks like Selena but doesn’t have the charisma but I still think she will do great just like Rami Malek who doesn’t look like Freddy Mercury but he did an awesome job!! I love both Rami and Freddie.

I hate how y'all are complaining on how the actress doesn't look like Selena. I thought the actress did great on playing her. Taron Egerton didn't even look like Elton John but he did great. Please don't put others down. Don't watch it if all you are going to do is criticise the actress.

@@weaponsofwarfare9537 Mostly because she's Puerto Rican and not Mexican American, and then they even chastised Selena in Mexico for being a Mexican American with Spanish as her second language instead of it being her first language as a genuine Mexican for her to have the right to be singing their music. Jlo never naturally looked like Selena that much but they made her look like Selena for the movie. Everybody was spellbound by Jennifer's performance though, it was the first starring role she ever had & it turned her into a mega superstar overnight. She still can't sing for shit though.

As much as I love Selena's music, I don't like the way that she was (and remains treated) as a cash grab by her father... obviously that's not something they are going to portray here because her family is involved in the production, but many people said that her father was SUPER toxic and literally treated her like a child. Selena had no autonomy! She had to get married secretly! Think about that!
Apparently, Guadalupe Esparza from the "Bronco" band (who worked with her on "Dos Mujeres, un Camino" a soap opera) said that Selena was very controlled by her father, so much so that Selena was always stressed and couldn't be herself... He said that Selena would only let go and be happy once her father would leave the set.
If that's not toxic, I don't know what is.

The thing I like about this version is that they seem to be highlighting Selena’s career in the 80s while the 1997 film focused mainly on her career in the early 90s.
I think season two dives into when she started blowing up in 1992-1995
97 movie was too fresh, they had to focus on the recent.
No hate to the actress but selena had curves, selena had color, oof and don't get me started on the HAIR. Whats up with the pale skinny weird hair portrayal. I'm disappointed as latinos are representation is so limited and it always seems to be white washed and inaccurate.

I love the movie, and thought i wouldn't like the series but surprisingly I love it too. It's more detailed and not rushed. We get to see a little bit of the other family members. The actress did a good job.
