Great job! I have been using that bolt but I'm not going to any longer. I've heard others stripping it out as well. Good to be reminded before it's too late. 👍
Nice tip Chuck. I don't know if the repair coils are magnetic or not, but if so a strong small magnet stuck on that punch tool could help. I find stainless steel likes to gall some threads so I hope the inserts aren't stainless.
I’ve used them a fair bit, but I prefer Heli-coil in most situations mainly because they’re so fast & easy to install. I find the Time-certs more sensitive to hole prep as well. If you don’t get it perfectly straight or if the threads aren’t perfect the Time-cert is more difficult to get solid. Very nice when you have good access to the hole and where there’s lots of material around the hole.

An additional solution....Tap the drilled out hole for the next bolt size & install a larger bolt.
Entirely valid fix as well.
Love this. Thank you!

I’m honestly not sure what the material is. I’ve installed hundreds of them. The threads become far more robust after the insert.
the galling issue is not a problem if you obey Mr. Harder and never use that oil check bolt
Where did you get the new bolt?
The customer supplied it, but it’s not necessary to replace the bolt. The hole always strips because it’s aluminum & very shallow.
could you put threadlocker on the coil?
I did. Blue Loctite.
@@ChuckfromTrueTech 2:02 Looks like you applied the fluid threadlocker to the hole
Timeserts are a better option imo.
