How-To LEGALLY ride a TALARIA + SURRON // UK LAW LOOPHOLE?

- Today we dive in depth about the various different ways to use your surron in the UK legally. There are many different options to riding legally and staying out of trouble, first off - a road legal version of the bike you own is a great bet, it means you can use if for commuting care free assuming you have the correct documentation and license. Another way you can legally ride your bike is to use it on private land, stay away from government or council owned land, this can lead to prosecution as well as seized bike.
I also briefly touch on some tips on how to blend in and stand out less when you are on trails or in the woods. Drawing as little attention as possible to yourself is key.

As an American, the trespassing laws are so crazy to hear. If you go and ride in private property, you’re gonna hear bullets whiz past you it’s kind of awesome
Its a stupid law that does more harm than good in the uk. Although its good for us riders. We have a lot less land in the uk and its crazy expensive because of the demand :(
Not in every state try that in Cali and you get arrested for shooting them lol
Love your videos! So informative and clear. Keep it up 👍🏼
So helpful! Love videos like this 👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for watching buddy
Big up stingy love the informational video
Thanks man appreciate it. Hope it helps :)
Very informative and clear! Keep up the videos love watching them
Means a lot :) will do. ☑️
Interesting video, keep up the good work
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching :)
They don’t bother me as long as they don’t leave litter and trash a place , I’m a mtb rider too.
There’s some that use the trails in one of the forests I ride , they are alright , I did stuff like that when I was younger. They slow down when I’m out with the kid so they don’t make me feel like he is in danger.
I’m more worried about the people riding them without helmets as I’ve had mates die on bikes and the thought of someone smashing skull into a tree with no protection no matter who they are worries me for their family and friends.
Good vid by the way. Also if your ever in Northants way they are trying to get an old max track opened up for them which I also think looks class!
Well presented and delivered mate
Thanks mate! I appreciate you watching 👍🏻
Hey stingy, love your content! How are you liking the swing arm extension? And where did you get it from?! Thanks
Hey buddy I’ve been away on holiday for just over a week so havent tested them much since this video but so far I am loving them! I hope to finish my review this/ next week :) its from vanguard garage on instagram in hawaii!
Thanks Stingy! Looking forward to more videos.
Sweeeet video dude ⚡️⚡️🔥
My man ❤️ appreciate the constant love.
Really like the wrapping.
Thanks Tom. You can see more including the cost in this video linked here, theres also links to where I got it in the description:

For those riding in the US, we do jump from streets onto MTB trails but its important to not overstay your welcome, just keep moving and take different trails in and out. If you keep ripping in front of the same group, they will get out their phones and have evidence against you. mostly I have found just being courteous and friendly goes a long way on sharing trails. some cities also are enforcing their own rules outside of the state so be aware before you ride there.
Brother, what you just said is super applicable to the uk too - overstaying your welcome is the #1 reason for trouble. You are spot on. Thanks for watching and great comment. I dunno if the law is the same in the US as here regarding pushing but for those super wary of trouble in the UK we are allowed to push our bikes along pavements as long as they aren’t moving under their own power to get to trails :)
I got a bosche cx line e bike and derestricted it but only goes torque limiter of 28mph. I upgraded the battery but still tiny battery. Best thing is its a custom sleeper using hope tec breaks, crank arm & hubs etc the police never stop me.
Ah wicked bro! I got a turbo levo with a levociraptor chip too! Its a wicked bit of kit - also very fun to ride! Ive had 35 out of it on a flat but its only the 500wh battery model so it drains fast on the roads!
Thanks for watching brother!
I ride like the laws don't exist. It's the risk I take. It's why I mostly watch US content due to the fact I enjoy the street stuff over the offroad (stick to the law) content. But I do watch you and mattfrancis 👌
Ah thanks for watching and i’m glad you enjoy my content! I do plan on grabbing a set of supermoto wheels soon and hitting a local 5 mile long gokart/supermoto track, it closes after 7pm and stays light until 10pm flood lit in summer and is perfect for stunting and some racing. (The gate’s never shut and the owner is pretty chill as theres plenty of signs stating use outside of hours is at your own risk ) Will make for some good content so keep an eye out for that :)
🐝🏁 Nice job video 👍
Great video!Did you change the height on your talaria beacuse it looks really big?
Hey man! Its got an extended swing arm and also a 20mm rise on the forks, its probably 3/4 of an inch taller than stock :) the 19/16 wheels maybe make it look bigger than it is :)
@@stingyrogerr Thanks for the response man!Keep up the great content!
Good vid mate. Uk law crazy. If u let gravity take u downhill on a push bike you can achieve over 25mph on a cycle path so why not allowed assistance to 25 on flat or uphill?
I had this discussion with a male karen the other day. He wasn’t having any of it 🤣 he had no response, assist only allowed up to 15mph :( a road cyclist will do 30mph on a flat comfortably and 40+ downhill. They don’t have insurance! 🤷
@@stingyrogerr I envy the people in the states they don't have any of this nonsense.
For sure. Although getting common that the police are starting to fine and ticket riders! I think they’re kinda taking a hint from the UK police. It seems the USA and UK seem to be the two countries with the biggest surron/ebike scenes.
Is it a talaria factory fork Drop crown you have being made? Are they going to be for sale on the wgt website?
Yes it is for talaria factory and all fast ace variants. It will either be on there or made to order via the evolve uk instagram :)
Noice! I'll keep an eye out for those. Have just ordered some of your side plates from wgt. Can't wait for them to arrive
Best idea is to get a road legal version and insurance and remove the number plate.
Yes, although my green 72v surron was a road legal model and the extra wiring and harnesses did make it a bit awkward with certain modifications, wiring and space inside the frame!
But yes for most this is a good option 👍🏻🫡
Why remove the number plate ?
What’s the point if you’re going to remove the number plate? 😅
Road vehicles arent allowed offroad unless a dedicated green lane which are normally short and there arent many around. Any offroading with a road registered vehicle is more illegal than offroading with a non registered vehicle 🤣 weird I know. Less punishment if non road registered tho
So the only point is so that the road legal version cant be crushed as it’s registered?
if you want to stay legal ride on the sidewalk/grass and go atleast slower than traffic unless its stopped/really slow. Ive passed a cop whilie i was wheelieing on the sidewalk before and he didnt care at all.
Fair point man! You gotta hope you have cool cops locally who have better things to be doing! Uk cops are pretty grumpy and due to drug dealers choosing 72v surron and talaria for their work transport we all get tarnished with same image and police have started ramming bikes to get the riders off🤯 stay safe out there man thanks for watching :)
In Liverpool they not letting you pay to get your bike back. It’s getting crushed
If you got caught on privately owned land then you should get a lawyer and get compensation. If you’re caught on the road, public spaces and believed to be made through proceeds of crime then yes they can.
Lots of variables, for the lads who only wear balaclavas, no helmet then get caught with weed in their man bags & are known to the police previously that doesn’t surprise me !
"You coming out riding mate?"
"Cant, bikes got an ASBO"
🤣 yet to have one myself or any of my friends but never say never. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
! think that a surron is to big of a motor to class . Moped. Continuous power up to 4kW. Max speed 28mph. yes it can be tuned down. power and speed . But i think when it's inspected they will say its too big. I'm not 100% on that.. So 125cc 11kw max. would be good to go. Every one that doesn't have a A1 A2 or A license would have to take a CBT first. this last 2 years. then you have to take it again or pass a A1 test. which then last life...
The L1E surron is designed to be road legal in the UK and comes with a log book. Its limited to 4kw and 28mph until you cut the green wire (bypasses restrictor). Not sure if you knew that… but yeah its a moped and rode on an L plate. When you cut the green wire then it becomes illegal to ride unless re registering it to a 125.
Pointless to be honest when most people cut it straight away anyway! Thanks for watching man.
Trespassing is a civil
Matter but as soon as you become aggressive when the land owner asks you to leave it becomes aggravated trespass and is a criminal matter 👍
True although police don’t attend car thefts and robbery in the UK for hours after a call, unlikely for them to take tresspass from someone on an ebike seriously - but yes… i agree with you & you’d have to be stupid to become aggressive to someone when you’re using their land without permission - best thing to do at that point is leave as I said!
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Police in Ireland are fairly chill with street riding
Thats good, i need to move to ireland! Thanks for watching 💪🏼
So how can I register it to be road legal? What insurance companies will take on the bikes?
In the UK when you purchase you have the option to get the offroad or road legal (L1E) version which comes from factory with indicators, lights and a logbook and 3 years MOT. It is legally registerable as a moped and insurance companies will insure from £200
@@stingyrogerr thanks for that. I currently have a e-trike and I'm just trying to find a limiter to stop it going faster than 28 mph on the road and have a switch to allow true freedom off road 🤣
just go ride - leave no litter, don't tear up a farmers field and be polite if you see people, you will be ok - sessions in an area for too long is asking for trouble - use a forest etc but get in and out in a set period, ensure you know several entry/exit routes - tbh there are that many e-bikes in mtb areas now that nobody will bat an eyelid if you are on the trails
Well said ;) thanks for watching.
Uk laws make no sense!!
At nearly 50 always had bikes common sense tells me:
If you share a public space you should travel at a similar speed as other users.. simple and safer.
Footpath walking= speed.
Street= speed limit.
Pedal cyclist doing 5mph round blind corners on a 60mph road is as dangerous as 40mph on a footpath.
I'm waiting for my chat with PC plod on my talaria before the ok then catch me if you can situation happens caused by the daft uk rule book!!
Great vids 👌
Good points mate! Very true, cyclists on country lanes doing 10mph in a 60 3 abreast is one of my pet peaves! I appreciate the support thank you for watching 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Are you allowed to walk the bike to the private land, can I walk it on pavement to the place.
Yes that is 100% legal. Walking the bike on the pavement is what you have to do :)
Lemme come and ride with you struggling for places to ride bro
What area in uk you from mate? 👍🏻
100% true about tresspass laws i ride over an old pit which the land is owned by a housing company and a solar panal company the police cant actually come onto the land unless the are called by the land owner dog walkers have tried to grass me up an police told them over the phone we havent had any complaints of the land owners im not breaking any law if anything the dog walkers are breaking the law
Thanks for watching. Yes usually its the people walking their dogs off the footpaths not leashed that cause issues. 😅🤣
@@stingyrogerr just off astley lane near the cow lees care home some decent little woods there technical track inside an then all the feilds around are ridable pretty good worth a visit on the e bikes
Road legal how do I do it?
So I don't need cbt until after my first year, do I need a full driving licence for this?
Tax is free so I just need insurance.
Iv a off road setup 12kw 5T stealth bomber, with full light kit, how do I get number plate & how much?
With stealth bomber it’s completely different, you will need to take your cbt to qualify for riding on road and register it as a 125. You will need to go to the gov website and fill out the register an offroad vehicle form. With a surron/pitbike/enduro bike its easier. You will need a receipt and proof of tax paid on the bike :)
@stingyrogerr why is a receipt & proof of tax needed? I have no extra tax to pay, bill was tax & shipping combined.
What's the 125 thing for on a bomber & not a suron bombers have pedals or does the motor have to be 8000kv maximum?
So iv definitely got to do a cbt then? (If you passed before 1999 (about) idt you have to do cbt
I have a medical hold full licence but I'm reapplying now
@ModModRc it goes by power regardless of pedals or pegs. And its proof that you purchased the bike new and the duty / vat has been paid on it. It will also need an inspection. Its really not as easy as it sounds!
Here’s a link to the GOV website to see the requirements :)
www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/motorcycle-single-vehicle-approval
You still have to do a cbt it goes by power output not motor max but actually if you say its 12kw it will be a full a2 license required. 11kw is the max for an a1 license.
Good luck mate
@stingyrogerr bit dumb of them saying 11kw. Iv heard of someone with the right speed controller getting 60+ from a 8kw
@ModModRc the rules were created for internal combustion engines so i guess thats why we can get more speed as we have much more torque!
Green lane am I correct is the only way legal
Not quite - unfortunately you still need an mot road tax and insurance to ride on that legally. The only legal way is the private property loophole in the video.
Green lanes/ byways are road worthy vehicles only 😥
This is the best explanation I can find

Thank you also love watching you vids 💯
@@stingyrogerr Any idea how much the yearly insurance for a 19 year old on a road legal Talaria XXX ? Who even provides it ?
@HRJL2005 you have to use comparison sites. Probably £1000 ish per year. My green 72v surron on the channel used to be Road legal road registered and insured. It was £200 for my 55 year old father with full no claims back then 👍🏻
Theses surron are common now I was hit by one last year didn't even hear the thing. I was on a peddle assisted electric bike onthe road, one of theses things shot past me hitting my left elbow causing me to come off my bike. He rode off year later still off work elbows shot can't move my left arm. Theses kids on surrons have ruined my life
Sorry to hear that. What an idiot riding so fast and so close to other people. Sorry to hear about your experience with reckless riders.
@stingyrogerr not your fault brother theses things look like fun. But so dangerous in the wrong hands. And ruines it for responsible riders like yourself. This kid was doing like 50 mph on that thing and his handle bars smashed right into my left ebb was like being hit with a slegde hammer. Moters insurers buro looking into see if u have a claim. Just sucks that idiot can't go fishing living off sick pay noidea what's even gonna happen about my elbow. May need elbow replacement surgery. I'm so.glad ur respinsable. Was incredible how fast he was going in such a short space
You seen how fast a loophole gets plugged .very very fast .
Been around for 50+ years trespass as criminal offence just cant be passed because of the amount of footpaths through land in uk and grandfather rights. Cant be and won’t be plugged anytime soon. People been using this on their motocross bikes for decades :)
Its easier just to have a road legal one and ride byways. There are some good byways around
It would be much easier yeah! If you live near any!
Hey i want to buy a talaria 3x mx to go to work is this ok in uk?
Only if road legal and you have CBT. i explained all this in the video.
@stingyrogerr I'm afraid to do all this qns then get robbed I ln uk
@AgosLive unfortunately this is becoming more common in the cities. I live in the countryside a bit where it is much safer :)
@stingyrogerr kinda sad , never wanted something so bad , I still will try to save for a talaria x3 mx they look so beautiful, according to their website you don't need driver license , that's why I was confused
@AgosLive don’t let it put you off. Mine is not road legal and in 5 years of my surron ownership and 2 years with my talaria never had an issue. Having somewhere to store it is important. Cant be leaving it in a shed or outside. A secure garage or home is needed :)
Section 59s are on the person not just the vehicle
Mine was on my bike years ago. Private land & noise complaints. Going back about 5 years ago
@@stingyrogerrI have a section 59 on my car. In what case can I get one on my non road legal Talaria… Are the two linked or completely separate ?
@HRJL2005 I only ever had one on my bike never on my car! I dont know if they can be linked as they lead to vehicle seizure and If on separate vehicles that surely cant be justified!
@@stingyrogerr In what case can they be issued to a bike ? I have a non road registered Talaria MXXX, I do not necessarily ride on public land but curious.
@@stingyrogerr Section 59’s expire after a year too right ?
All this is saying is that you can ride these bikes on Private Land whoever the owner is, nothing more. You still can NOT ride these on public roads unless they are road-legal.
Correct 👍🏻 the two only legal ways are any private land or on the road with correct documents and license ✅
The law changes soon as u start damaging the grass you can be arrested for criminal damage its how they get round the trespass law
As I said in the video, kinda gotta be smart about it but yes, On a public place of course destroying grass would be a silly and punishable thing to do.
But farm headlands are literally made for farm quads, gators and tractors they’re usually churned up as hell not to mention the horses using them and sinking hooves into it. You make a good point.
Kinda gotta look at where you are riding and adjust to it based on your area. For me in my area and being a land owner I couldn’t prosecute based on some tire marks. Police won’t come out for a car theft robbery no way they will come out because someone says their grass has a tire mark in it.
But I agree. Don’t destroy land, stay out of trouble and be smart about where and how you ride.
Thanks for watching Wayne :)
@@stingyrogerr Hi mate presumably all of this is assuming you are caught in the act. How can they prove it was you otherwise? Thanks
I have a 72v surron..I ride it on the road and any time police try to stop me I literally just do a tight u turn and sped off in the opposite direction. Being doing that for nearly 2 years now
Bro I hate the uk I only have a 48v 1000w ebike only does 38 mph and the police chase me everywhere for doing nothing litrally just riding my ebike and they try to ram us to and we’re only 15. Surely they can’t ram kids or are they aloud
Im not sure on that one but its annoying for you cos 38 is fast for a pedal bike but not fast enough to get away from a car! Stay safe man! Im sure if they rammed you and you injured yourself they would have issues in court keeping their job !
@@stingyrogerr thanks brother I love your vids keep up the good vids bro 🤘🏻
🎉
Sham the lads where I live don't have your common sense riding these bikes around where I live down cycle tracks foot paths and shopping centres weaving in and out of pedestrians at speeds of 30miles and hour doing Wheelies going past pedestrians in the shopping centre
Yeah that spoils it for the rest of us. Seems like theres 2 types of riders on these bikes. The more offroad and respectful motocross/ mountainbike background riders then the tracksuit lads who have no common sense and love terrorising police and local spaces
Riding these bikes on someone's private property would cause damage to their property making it criminal trespass. If you're told by the landowner that you are trespassing and you don't leave they can use force to remove you, if you return it becomes aggravated trespass which is an offence. If you park across someone's drive it's classed as restricting access to the highway which is an offence.
This is all incorrect and only applies for the usa. This is completely incorrect for the uk. A relative of mine may or may not be high up in my area’s police force and deals with bikes a lot over the summer and hates the lack of legal avenues to prosecute the bikes if caught off-road. On the road is a different story.
Criminal tresspass does not exist. If a landowner uses force to remove you this is completely illegal and will be classed as assault. If youre from the UK you will know about fox hunting - the anti hunts roll up every single time the horses and riders are out and block the paths of the farmers and hunters on their own land, police are called with no effect week in week out. If you park across somebodys driveway you are not restricting a highway as your driveway is not classed as as highway.
Ive attached some links below for you to have a look. Im guessing you are american as none of these terms exist in UK law.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trespass_in_English_law#:~:text=Trespass%20in%20English%20(and%20Welsh,property%2C%20protected%20sites%2C%20etc.
This one is the metropolitan police website on blocking someones driveway:
www.met.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/asb/asb/antisocial-behaviour/nuisance-parking/#
As i mention in the video, trespass leading to loss of earnings is the only time a court case can ensue but is a lengthy process. Vandalism would mean purposeful destruction of property and some tire marks on a grass headland would be a bit impossible as they’re used by farmers quads and other heavy machinery so the ground there is already torn up and not legally classed as farmable land and any crops growing across the footpath would be an offence on their part.
But thanks for watching. Plenty of laws people assume exist. Plenty of times a burglar or robber has injured themselves TRESPASSING on someone’s property and won court cases against the land owner.
@@stingyrogerr Are these rules different to riding on council owned land ?
@HRJL2005 i did mention council owned land in the video! Council owned land has its own rules where the council have ties to the local police so they will be able to issue section 59 anti social order on the bike and seize it until you pay the impound fee. Council/government land is risky, if its a car park (paved) sometimes it can even be classed as public highway (road)
@@stingyrogerr Thanks. How risky is riding on green lanes without proper documentation ?
@HRJL2005 you’re very unlikely to encounter any problems. With it being a green lane you will be surrounded by fields and green areas to head off into if you think someone coming towards you could bee trouble :)
Buddy’s a layer
You mean lawyer big boss? 🤣
Can you drive on paths
Good question but pathed paths like the pavement- no. You can push legally along them though provided you are pushing it by hand and not under its own power.
Paths in the forest if not a council owned forest you are fine as long as they are not public foot paths.

That's right, its private property until it's registered as a vehicle for commercial use.
