    Last year I worked on a 4 part workshop with Strathmore on how to draw realistically with charcoal. I thought I would upload them on my channel as well, to help those of you that are interested in learning to draw with charcoal. This is part 2 in the series!

    Perfect timing! I was just starting to pick up drawing again after years in 'limbo'. I think charcoal gives a much better result in values rather than led pencils which I'm used to. I tried to make a self portait using charcoal, which wasn't half-bad. But I made some beginner mistakes, and this tutorial helped me a lot. Especially about smoothing out lighter areas. Gonna try this on my next drawing.
    Thank you! :-)

    I was always taught that with charcoal, you should start with the lighter values, since you can always darken, but can't really lighten. So is there a specific reason that you started with the dark first?

    • @UNEARTHED36
      @UNEARTHED36 Před 4 lety +6

      You use dark first so that you use it as a reference to the lighter values. If you do light first, you might make some shadows darker than what they should be.
