Last year I worked on a 4 part workshop with Strathmore on how to draw realistically with charcoal. I thought I would upload them on my channel as well, to help those of you that are interested in learning to draw with charcoal. This is lesson 3 in the series!
Not of your level

How did you do this 😱😱😱
I just drew my dog for the first time last week, and she turned out looking like a monster. Lol this video came just in time! Thank you 😊

Hi there, anyone reading this comment have a year full of happiness.
Thank you! And you too!
And you as well
Thanks! Same too you
You too thank you😄
thank you
Kirsty, I simply cannot say enough about how you know when to ease back and let the drawing be a drawing! I have seen more than 1 or 2 artists keep working on a picture to get it more like the photo! You have to know when to let your picture be the drawing you want. If you want a photo then take one! You create a drawing or painting because you want something more! This picture is something more! Thank you for sharing your expertise and knowledge with us and I do hope those who need to get more help take advantage of your generous offers on Patreon and your website. Have a lovely day.
Maybe that’s just their style. There’s no way to completely replicate a photo no matter how hard you work it. A drawing is still a drawing and a photo is still a photo no matter how close you get to it. If that’s the way artist’s like to do their art, let them do that their way and you do your art your way.
Dogs are one of my favorite things to paint! Thank you for this beautiful tutorial - I got a lot of ideas about how to present watercolor lessons!!! You're so inspiring!
Your videos are great - new stuff to binge on : )
@@Travel4zenBlogspot Thank you so much! I have a new video about painting horses coming out next. Kirsty's videos are great to binge on too!!!
This video by Kirsty is amazing - I agree!
drawing fur is so intimidating! 🥺 definitely using this as a guide
just paint the values.
If you look at fur in terms of shapes of hues instead of more individual hairs, it's easier.
My mum has just adopted 2 rescue dogs from Dogs Trust, and I really want to do a drawing of them. This lesson couldn't have come at a more perfect time. Thanks, Kirsty xx
@Rayo Jesson yes, sometimes
I am doing a painting of my friend's dog. I kept hesitating using acrylic. Now after seeing your video, it occurred to me USE CHARCOAL! Thanks for the inspiration...
Thank you for the motivational tips!
Yay! I've started with charcoal a few days ago, and I have been looking for good tutorials!
Amazing. I love the way you explain your steps. I used to draw with charcoal in high school more than 30 years ago. I started acrylic recently but now with the help of your videos, I'm totally refreshing my knowledge of this medium to create drawings again. Thank you! ❤
Great drawing Kirsty, the dog looks very realistic. Great advice in this tutorial. Well done sweetheart 🥰😘
Just wow, You have gotten so much better , you've worked so much, I m amazed! ❤
Your tutorials are amazing. Thank you for sharing!!!
Great video Kirsty I always wanted to learn how to draw animals (even though it not my best subject matter to draw)
Animals will always be my favorite thing to paint. I'm trying to get better at landscape though
Thank you very much. You are a great artist. I learned a lot from you ❤
Very beautiful and helpful thanks 😊
this video was so helpful I suck at drawing animals and drawing with charcoal. Thank you so much
Nice tutorial... I like your drawings!
Absolutely amazing !!!!
Rayo Jesson I do yes, I’m an animal and wildlife artist :)
A very helpful video for a youtube starter like me..😊
Good luck with your CZcams adventures - I'm a newbie too, compared to Kirsty!

You are so amazing 😊❤️🔥🔥🔥
Most impressive! 👍
Another great tutorial, thank you :)
Loving this series ❤️👌 thank you so much Kirsty. Never used charcoal before, but definitely feel more confident to do so now.
Beautiful drawing as always x
Rayo Jesson I try 😁
Rayo Jesson my life has always been filled with animals, so learning to draw them, is the cherry on the cake ✏️ 💜
Love this 💜
Amazing ❤️
This was very well explained Kirsty..Charcoal is a medium that not many think to try ,I never did, although I have used pastels..I think it’s because before it was a messy medium and now there are pencils and the sticks they are a lot tidier....These lessons have opened my eyes and got me curious ,so will definitely have to get some and have a play 😀
Amazing mam thank you for teach us
Very nice kirsty,♥️
Nice work ma'am❤
Very nice more beautiful 💕
Thanks, Kirsty, you're the one who made me believe charcoal was a medium worth revisiting.
Do you use hair spray or something to keep the charcoal in place?
@Rayo Jesson I do, although I haven't drawn many, I think animals and creatures are so much fun to draw. I've been drawing a lot of girls because that's been pretty fun so far. What do you like to draw?^^
You deserve so much more subs views and likes 💫💕
Brilliant drawing 😊 Kirsty is better than the Camera 👍
@Rayo Jesson I have a tri colour cavalier, drawn him a few times on my phone👍
Lovely pet lovely work👍👍👍
Yeah I like animals drawing

@Rayo Jesson Hiya Rayo. I like to draw and paint peoples portraits mainly. But I have drawn some animals in the past
@Rayo Jesson I have seen some of your animal drawings and they are awesome. Keep up the great work
You artwork is so good
@Rayo Jesson yes too much!! :)
Great video 👍👍👍👍
Omg. I am literally doing this in art class right now ( drawing my cousins cat). Just showed my teacher. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!!😁😁😁😄😄😄😋😋😋
كتييير حلو❤️
Wow ur amazing at drawing I wish I could do that
You can just trace for some of your more 'serious' attempts, and practice drawings in sketchbook type work! I learned that trick from professional artists, so in the artist's realism community, it's considered acceptable.
Amazing..
Good. I am turkish . Ameyzing draw 😍❤️😍
Wow! Amazing. What paper do you use for this? Also, do you spray a protector on after?
Great drawing....but you should try using a flat brush instead of a round one coz I find it so much easier to blend and gives a great result...!
Nice
Since you start with your sketch already done, do you have a video on sketching a reference? Ive been just tracing pictures since im a beginner.
Smart 👍
are you applying fixative after first layer of shading.. I am a beginner, so i don't know much about fixative.
사실주의 기법으로 그릴 수 있는 능력이 부럽습니다.
The drawing is definitely more awesome than the photo
👌👌👌👌
Geat work Kirsty, as usual.
I am having trouble sharpening 2B charcoal pencils with the Derwent crank handle sharpener. H pencil, no problem. I have wasted 1/2 the pencil length of the 2B. What to do?
@Rayo Jesson yes animals are my passion
Wowh
@Rayo Jesson no. But would love to
Oh my god very dangerous artist... really amaizing..
Kirsty what did you do during Christmas with your family?
i need dis
When you are drawing using charcoal does the reference have to be black and white colored too?
Yes
awwww doggo
@Rayo Jesson well i make paintings! i made a couple with animals, a snake, a rhino. i am not bad but i am not great at it. i'm still learning!! my paintings are digital only. i use photoshop and mspaint (for the challenge)
i notice your channel is really good so i will subscribe!
Hello.. i just want to know what drawing paper you used? Thank you ..
Your drawing is more interesting than the picture 😊
@Rayo Jesson yes i love drawing animals, nowhere near this level but drawing soothes my soul.
@Rayo Jesson Well said! a far better approach, you are an amazing artist, I just subscribed, and i wiill definately keep in touch. 🤗
What I wonder as I watch this 4 part series, so far (haven't finished this 3rd one) is that these drawings are based on existing images. It's easier to make a sketch for that and plan on how to build up the layers, because you can see them in front of you. But what of an idea you've got only vaguely in your head? I've tried so many times to draw creatures with charcoal, but I just can't get it right.
I set a basic outline in charcoal and then I get stuck, because I know how to build up the depth and shadows, or it turns out those outlines shouldn't have been where they are (too harsh to be realistic).
So, when drawing, say, a fairy, how does one go about that? Is there a video I need to see?
Fantastic drawing #artkrishna
I didn't realize that charcoal pencils come in 2B, 4B, etc. I just have soft, medium and hard. Which of these would be the equivalent of a 2B? I looked that up on Amazon and they only sell each hardness in boxes of 12 vs. 1 of each. I'd have a TON of pencils on hand just to get one of each.
would you be willing or could you recommend an artist to commision for some K-9 portrait work
Que buena profesora!!Lastima que no te entienda😀😀.Un saludo👋👋👋
#حلووو 😍😮🌷😮😮💖
🙏👌👍
Can anyone tell me what she’s using to hold down the paper?
😭😭😭😭awsmm...👍
That’s my dog. Where’d you get my doggie?
How do you sketch it tho !? , I'm just a bigginer
The Patreon link won't load.
early!
@Rayo Jesson I like painting animals, I am not to good at drawing them haha
@Rayo Jesson thank you for your comment! :)
👏👏More perfect than this drawing, just a name CHARLES LAVESO, Brazil
But Kirsty teaches people for free on CZcams and his course is about $200.
@@pat4005 Both provide good content for FREE on CZcams and she also charles valeus for the Panteon.
And there's no comparison, Charles Laveso has a drawing course with teachers who interact with students on Facebook and Whatsapp. The evolution of students in a few months is EXTRAORDINARY. There are more than 11 years forming realistic designers.
how to do curly hair like on a poodle
I can spend hours to draw pores but don't have any patience for furs 😬😝😝😝
Can you draw bible charaters
Person that disliked can only draw stickmen
You can always trace until you get better at drawing. There is no rule that says you can't trace for some works and practice drawing for others.
rachelsstudiodotcom i was not saying that. I am totally ok with tracing, you must have misunderstood.
rachelsstudiodotcom And it is also a whole different topic than my comment. Tbh i don’t see the problem here
Hey really I love you so much
Wanna marry you 😍😍😍
Please, stop tracing
Nice
