Question: Who is your favourite Thomas illustrator?
Despite some ups and downs, HiT Entertainment celebrated the successful 60th anniversary with many products including Thomas’ first direct-to-DVD special in 2005. Things went well for the franchise following the celebration and Egmont published the first Railway Series book in over a decade, but by 2008, the television show went through a massive shift to CGI animation in order to reduce production costs and it becomes the last hurrah for the live action model era.
The little blue tank engine has been captivating audiences for over 70 years through books, television series, films, interactive media, and a large variety of toys. From a television series airing in 161 territories in 57 languages and merchandise selling one engine per second, Thomas proves he is still the number one preschool brand. This year, Thomas travels around the world on new adventures in the updated series Thomas and Friends Big World Big Adventures! Mattel, owner of the Thomas brand, ensures this new format will further develop the content of the series, including a faster pace with more music, more comedy, and more animal interactions. Steaming To Legacy is a web documentary covering the incredible history of Thomas the Tank Engine and the impact the stories and characters have made. The series features many in depth interviews, little known facts, and a detailed timeline of the creative developments made within the book series, television series, movies, and specials. In addition, the web documentary also features sub-stories of similar children’s shows including TUGS and Shining Time Station. Daniel Coffey (SmurfyDan), creator of the series, serves as the director and editor, while Matt Michaud (EnterprisingEngine93) narrates the series. It’s so good to watch these documentaries since the first episode in this series. I’ve essentially grew up to witness the shift in the programming and, while I had mixed feelings, it was necessary to cater it to the audience and to make an economical choice (while there could’ve been much different approaches as well).

A very good instalment to the documentary. I really enjoy seeing and hearing behind the scenes related items regarding the model series. In answer to your question at the end of the video, my favourite illustrator is John T Kenny for his uses of bold colours but also the way he shows the workings of the railway around the characters and settings. In each of his illustrations, there is a little cameo of something to make the pictures more interesting to look at and to show more life in them too. Good work as always with the documentary and I look forward to the next instalment.

This made me feel really upset about the present state of the show. To me, the show is now a shell of it once was that is stupid and political incorrect. It all feels as the people running the show lost the heart of it despite the good content a person like you would bring. Still, this new format angers me for past year and a half.

I grew up near the Nene Valley Railway and i loved days out there because i could always get a new Thomas Die Cast as back then the Die Cast Thomas in the highstreet were just the common characters, Thomas, Bertie, Toby, Percy .. ones like Duck and BoCo were usually harder to find in shops back then...

Another amazing chapter! So that explains it for the end of the model era. And everything you said is wonderfully done perfectly, including a few events and original plans I didn't know until now.
Also, for favorite illustrator, it's hard to choose which one really because they all did very good and beautiful illustrations throughout the RWS, but if I had to pick at least 2 or one, it would be either the Edwards couple or Clive Spong.

Ah yes, one of Thomas' biggest stirrups. Just yikes, I remember waking up Sunday mornings to go and watch S8-11 with enthusiasm, and whilst admittedly the whole era was bad, compared to what came after, these works were saints.
As for your QOTD: I enjoy Kenny's work, real vibrant and gritty looking worlds, with nice attention to scale, maybe not as gritty as the Edward's, but still my favorite to look at.

      @matthewweatherford6566 Před 2 lety

@@buddtubeyt7536 I never had a particular problem with it but I understand why others would. It wasn't until Journey Beyond Sodor that I started getting upset over how the new productions were done. The non static body movements made me realize Thomas was no longer doing it's own thing and the way Frankie cries gave me the idea that Mattel doesn't care about the autistic community because they're not the target audience. Then again, it's possible that Frankie crying (or at least the way she cried) was improvised and her actress didn't have autistic fans in mind. But what upsets me most is All Engines Go. I hate that Mattel thinks everything aimed at little kids today has to be exactly the same as everything else and talk down to them and that the main characters have to move like Casey Junior and Tayo the little bus and be voiced by actual kids in order for today's preschoolers to enjoy the show. I think little kids are smarter than that. Mattel took away everything that made Thomas unique and special in favor of copying every other generic preschool show on the market. I hope it gets lost in the big shuffle and I hope there are enough parents out there willing to show their little ones the old Thomas. I certainly would. I don't wanna speak down to them.

After a few weeks, I have finally managed to see this video and I am very amazed with it. So much happened during the times between 'Calling All Engines' and 'The Great Discovery'. It was very sad that we lost both David Mitton and George Carlin in 2007, they were both magnificent people. I am disappointed that a lot of the good characters from the Miller era re not in the new series now. I think Mighty Mac, Molly, Neville, Dennis, Jeremy, Fearless Freddie, Billy and Colin should deserve to come back. I'm not sure why Angelis and Brandon were brought back after Brosnon's guest narrator after he was contracted for 3 specials and 3 seasons. But I guess we will find out next time.
As for the favourite illustrator question, I would have to say Clive Spong. This is because his drawings have more of a realistic look and he is clever with the faces and the detail is spot on :) .

It is shown as part of the Great Discovery product lineup as you can see. They were all toys after all.

That is a Cool cut Cardboard of the large Model of the Steam Engine of Thomas in Late 2004/Early 2005. So what happened To 60th Anniversary party in June 2005?

WolfDogFan 86 Truth be told the cardboard cut out of Thomas was actually from the All Aboard Live tour in 2001, not 2005, hence I placed the note to avoid confusion.

Oddly enough, The Great Discovery Trackmaster set and the film itself were the last things I ever got in relation to Thomas and Friends. I find it oddly Fitting that my love for the show as a kid ended with the model era.

You've outdone yourself with this part, Dan.
It's amazing what went down throughout the 60th anniversary of Thomas and I've never known of the big fail of the first party you and EnterprisingEngine93 covered.
Speaking of the documentary featuring Gaku Omada, can it still be found and watched? It's been years since I've watched it!
As for favorite Thomas illustrator, Clive Sprong takes the win.

plus I forgot my memories of watching Thomas on milkshake and the other kids shows I didn’t expect to see said shows I had watched before when I was young I never liked very much and eventually grew out of now I see them again which I don’t blame you for because that’s what happened in 2008 irritate me nowadays which is not your fault that’s just my bother problem usually it doesn’t come right at me because those were kids shows of 2008 which is long behind me but I did love Thomas in the great discovery and the trackmaster tumbling bridge and Trackmaster Stanley Oh my god I used to love playing them a lot when I was young in those days I had to IKEA desks my dad let me use for my little layouts how loud which contain mixture of brown truck must a truck and tomy track without even any bridge supports The ones I had were road ones now I’ve got a whole big bunch an of old tomy & trackmaster things to connect altogether and I’ve got more than three desks but will soon for a much much bigger layout for a big track spiral to build which will be amazing for you and Matt aka enterprisingengine93 to see

I'm probably the only person in the world and I mean world (ok maybe not but I guess in the US) that actually likes every season and special of Thomas & Friends, and I think that's because I'm too nice or a softy. Now that I said that I'm hoping that I won't get murdered just for stating my opinion.

Sammy Clark You may not be the only one here. I grew up with the show since I was a toddler and I even watched up to Series 22 as time passes by and now anticipating to see Series 23 this year. In other words, if you like every series and specials ~ that’s fine with me, I wouldn’t mind.
