The best tutorial! It’s so important to loosen the tuning peg a lot before you put the string on. Then after putting the string in, pulling up on the slack string while tightening the tuning peg- makes it easy peasy. Thanks for the great video!

Hello, I absolutely LOVE your channel! May I make a suggestion for a video? It would be amazing if you made a longer video explaining to us about the history of traditional Chinese music, and how it was played, what ensemble, the music, etc. For people wanting to discover these rich traditions it can be really hard to know which piece of music online is actually accurate to the ancient traditional artforms and which are made for our modern tastes but just using ancient instruments. For inspiration, I highly recommend Farya Faraji's musicology videos (it's called Epic Talking in his channel), where he tells us about Middle Eastern music and helps us understand and identify authentic pieces. CZcams is flooded with "relaxing ancient Chinese music" and we have no idea what is what, haha. Anyway, sorry for the long comment and congrats on your channel!

What is the name of the music you play?

Being a hobbyist woodworker (I make wooden crank baits for fishing) and a beginner erhu player, I be most interested in learning the process of making an erhu (the bow too). I probably can make a crappy one right now. I got all the general woodworking skill set. My weak point is actually are my ears. Others may be interested in taking classes too. The process may take too much time but at least cover the major steps. You can also hav e beginner and advance classes. Here in the US, there are such classes to learn the craftsmanship (general carving, cabinetry, hand tools,,,,,). The woodworking stores would have classes for turning and even building instruments (like guitars). To me it's kind of like a vacation trip for learning. You do it for the fun of it. You charge accordingly. If such learning experience is available, I would sign up and make the trip.

The Mujiuchen is really hard to control the strings and the “noises” because it echoes very brightly. But I believe for players who want to work on getting rid of noises, this is also a must have guzheng. It is perfect to use to work on finger strength. Each pluck should avoid string-nail contact noises as much as possible. Thanks for the educational video, I’m waiting for my Mujiuchen’s Mujiuchen to come!

Do you think the gap at the pinky is a bit large? Pinky would get stuck in there when doing Yaozhi right?

My Grandpa is a instrument teacher from China, he teaches students how to play Erhu and other instruments like Drums and Suona. And my Grandpa teaches me how to play an Erhu when I was 6 years old!

Another difference is that the guzeng has multiple bridges going diagnal across the middle of the board, while the guqin has only one bridge and is at one side of the instrument

I like how the holes in the base of the zhongruan looks like birds! I also noticed that unlike my upright bass, the very top of the instrument curves instead of twists. These are very beautiful, high quality instruments!

sometimes it feels like teh sound of dizi is so dull, ive been playing for a whiel but i cant make that beautiful sound, Its either Dull or screechy

Guqin by far is my favorite instrument to play. It’s a personal instrument and I’m very attached to mine even though it isn’t the best quality, it’s still so beautiful. It saddens me that the Guqin is not more well known, especially in the west. It was by chance that I happened upon the Guqin, and I’m so glad I did.

I like the sound of both to study. When I first learned about both, I had many doubts about how they were different, thanks for the answer.
