Another excellent video. Thanks, Randy. In terms of lure selection and color, is water clarity relative to the body of water? Or, are bodies of water that generally have between 6”-24” of visibility always best suited to stained water selections?

Smaller hook theory sounds crazy but a few yrs ago I started downsizing to 2/0, size 1 and 2 hooks on 6 lb fluorocarbon and 8 lb copoly line. It made a difference in getting more fish. 2 things: you do have to keep checking your drag and clearing your your spool of line buried after a snag. But a property set up drag, line weight and rod action (system) will bring you better results.

I usually listen to these seminars and shoot slingshot, jot down some notes in between. This one here has all kinds of “JUICE”! More notes this time. I didn’t fire a round till the video was finished. Great job on this!

What hooks was good before eagle claw Lazer Sharp with black nickel hooks

Do you like the 3inch plastic's like the 3" Yum Dinger I used the 1/0 or #1 wide gap. I switched to mini everything for the lake I fish. I think is more fun to use. Something different.

I grabbed some offset round bend hooks instead of ewg and tried that with the ultravibe speed craw and caught 14 bass today and missed 1. My hook up percentage is so much better. I use a medium heavy spinning rod in a kayak and had trouble getting solid hook ups with a texas rig until now. Awesome! ❤

Was fishing texas rig the other day. Was moving it along and decided to put the rod under my arm and light some smoke. I felt it move as I was digging in my pockets and figured it's too late anyways so I finished taking my breather and went to reel in and check the lure and that dang fish was still on it! It was probably about 15 seconds or so. I'm slowly learning to be more patient but my habit caught me that fish that day

I was using the UV Speed Craw the other week with the same hook and I kept missing fish. I took out my utility knife and made a slit down the middle of it, and after that I caught every one that bit. The Speed Craw seems to be a little bit tougher plastic than a lot of the other Zoom baits, but that simple modification made all the difference from catching nothing to landing every one.

This is one of your videos that helps me even though I fish in the saltwater. I'm going to try hooking fluke like that for the top fluke on a double fluke rig. The other one will still get a jig head. Rigging 2 about a foot apart is a great technique for flounder and redfish, and it's a classic for speckled trout.

Why do you keep referring to the MB Super ZZ2 as a shallow running crank when the bait specs say it runs 10 feet deep?

That's funny, I just dug out my old hula popper that had a worm melted into it's skirt that's getting new paint and a hair tail put on it over at the healing bench. It was old when I bought it as a kid, so he's due.

Hey Randy, I don't think you should feel like you need to be apologizing for making long videos. Personally, I actively search out long videos because I feel like they are going to be where I can find worthwhile content. Although, I might be a smaller percentage of viewers since I'm always trying to find content where I'll actually learn something, instead of just trying to pass time. And your videos are on the top of my list right now. Yours is the only fishing channel that I have found so far that has the type of information that seems really hard to find. So, thank you so much for taking time out of your life to give us the knowledge that you've spent years and tears to learn! It's helping me so much in my bass game. Cheers man.

Show baits

I still own just about every old school baits you have shown. Hellbenders, wooden Bombers, original Cordell Spots without the internal rattle, and caught many fish on these plus many more but quit fishing them because I'm scared to lose them. But many awesome memories with these baits.

Hooked and lost one of my biggest bass on I Hellbender back in the 70s

All the old tackle boxes I've collected have some of these baits. I wish you'd talk about the lazy ike. and dare devil spoons

I break out the jitterbug,hula popper a couple times every year, takes me back to my childhood instantly. Love it!

One old-school lure is missing: The Flatfish. Not easy to cast, but they are deadly. The little F-10 Gold Flatfish, with old wire attachment, can catch Trout, Panfish, and keeper size Bass.

Don't throw a Jitterbug into the wind, even low & sidearm. The lip catches air, causing it to spin like crazy. Otherwise, ... it's been catching fish since forever.

So if these lures are so great would you use them in stock form, with factory supplies hooks and lacking split rings if that’s how they came? Sorry but the extremely cheap hooks and simple hook connected to a screw eye isn’t going to get the job done compared to actual strong and sharp hooks that dangle from strong split rings ( instead of the cheap ones that typically came with lures if they came with them at all). I love the old school bomber metal lipped crankbait but I’d still need to put good hooks and split rings on it before using it.

Randy, I tend to agree with you on the vast majority of your blogs, but this nonsense that bass have suddenly evolved to the point that they will readily commit suicide on a $15 mega-bass crank bait and not a 25 year old bomber 3A that cost you fifty cents is just that, nonsense..

i like going on the old school lures pages on facebook this stuff is so cool and i’ll tell you what they still movin them things around angler to angler so it’s possible to get out hands on them for sure

I still use those old rebel lures...every single one of them is absolutely killer. Cheap as can be, but absolutely killer...I like that rebel crawdad, it's phenomenal sometimes.
