Now you are in my wheelhouse! Top water is my ride or die! The water here is almost always clear to 5-6 feet, the sun shines bright and hot and the water runs very warm. A clear Zara Puppy is the BOMB! Early in the morning, late in the evening, mid-day through the shade, no telling WHAT you'll catch. Bass, hybrids, stripers, even a hungry catfish or two. I have NO idea why the clear works so well but it does. Catch the Spots or hybrids in a boil and hang on!!
I actually lost 2 clear ones in a boil and swapped to a semi clear puppy with a greenish blue back and it was like someone flipped a switch. I still caught some fish but nothing like I was hooking with the clear one.
Good info. For whatever reason top water is my least confident bait so I lose patience quick. Gonna make an effort to apply some of these pointers this summer and hopefully have some success.

Super spook, by far my favorite topwater walking bait...The Evergreen Shower Blows 125 & 150 are my 2nd favorite...great baits, even for big smallmouth...Megabass Megadog is a BIG bait..i have a few, and will use for stripers..wouldn't be shocked a big largemouth takes a shot at it
I never set on blow up. Lower rod tip almost to give slack then set!! exceptional hook up rate. Just my .02 cents
The spook jr was my favorite nite fishing bait up north.easy to fish,and the manns 1 minus for a wake crank worked good too 👍.

Great video Randy! Man I remember hitting the lake one October morning. It was 27 degrees , and there was so much fog and steam on the water. When I cast, I had no idea when the lure would hit the lake! I started with the spook, and I was getting 3-5 lbs large mouth every cast. One of my best days!
I love fishing the spook, but my philosophy is not to force it. I only pick it up when it’s the right condition. For colors I stick with white or black. Randy am I missing something? My experience is a spook is one of the best technics to get a big bite in the north east. How much effort and time would you give the spook when conditions are off a little?

Ordered some japanese 2 point hooks for topwater fishing over vegetation .or for lipless baits.

For those that don't know how to walk a Spook, the easiest stickbait out there to learn to walk is the 6th Sense (No, the Sobzaks don't give me a dime) Catwalk.
100 bass and 20 4 lbers i would absolutely shit myself with joy. This summer i had thee single best fishing day of my 41 year existence and i caught about 20 bass in a 3 hours period FROM THE BANK - every single one was 3.5 and better and caught two 5s and lost another big one on my last cast and i thought that was a day sent from god . Here in ny btw , so those are insane numbers
Rapala husky jerk silver and black it looks just like a florida shade really old bait but goody bait.
I started throwing the popmax last year. I walk it rather than pop it most of the time. Can you talk about when you walk the popmax?

Snag proof came out with the Zoo Dog , it looks like a Zara spook but it collapses like a frog and it has a double hook on the back like a frog , and for here in all the grass that’s here I can’t wait to try it , I love my spook junior for here but in the grass when it gets thick u can’t throw it with ease

Randy, did you mean to say to use mono with the spinning rod and small walking bait?
We all know that almost all YT'ers pimp there own sponsors over others, but did anybody else note that Randy inadvertently just said that the side to side walk had much more to do with the retrieve than the bait itself?
He said some baits (Super Spook, Spook) have a wider side to side action than others (Dog X) based on how they’re designed. But they both have their place under certain conditions.

None of those lures are advanced, but you can always test my theory.
