#spraypaint #oilpaint on stretched canvas panel I’m trying out a few ideas for future projects and this was a test to see if I could produce these 3 sculptural forms using spray paint as a base. More interesting techniques ,thanks Dan . Great inspiration.
Glad you enjoyed it
So beautiful it hurts my eyes, meaning I can't take my eyes off of it. You are so talented.
Thank you so much 😀
Hi Dan, what kind of paper is this?
I use a heavyweight cartridge paper 250gsm or smooth card 300gsm. This technique works best on a smooth surface. You can prime the surface with a spray of white acrylic paint.
What kind of paper are you using?something like 400gr. For watercolor?
Sometimes a smoother surface works best with this technique, I use a heavyweight cartridge paper 250gsm or a thick card. It's worth experimenting with different surfaces. Try a primed canvas or wooden panel.
I don’t get it. Why don’t you just draw on the paper instead of going through all that?
Try it, I promise it makes a difference.
Thanks
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your support.
Hey Dan, @DanTirels This is a very nice piece. I have a question. Did you use fixative on your charcoal before applying the acrylic paint? Thanks for the reply. Marc Belgium
I sometimes paint over unfixed charcoal for an interesting paint effect, but once I'm happy with the composition I will spray with a fixative, painting over again and building up the layers. Finish with a varnish to seal.
Bravo!
Brilliant!
Thank you
Dan this was absolutely fascinating and enjoyable to watch as the shapes, colors and line combined to make such beautiful prints. I'll have to invest in some spray paints. What brand did you use in this stream?
Thanks good to know you enjoyed this. The brand I use is Montana Gold series, great range of colours and dries quick with even spreading.
@@DanTirels thank you for the information.
I will like if can see the subtext. What ink do you use?
This is a water based block printing ink or you can simply use oil paint.
Thank you for not talking or playing music because this video was boring and pointless and stupid. Whooopeee, you turned aluminum foil into tracing paper. Awful.
Klasse
Thank you
THANKS!!
You're welcome!
Watching you take a white canvas and bring it to life has a zen quality that is calming. Beautiful artwork 🎨
Thank you so much 😀 Glad you enjoyed this, I always want to encourage others to give this a try.
Nice piece! Love the contrast.
Thank you very much!
I've come to your latest post from the ones from a while ago to thank you for these videos, Im so glad I tripped over them and found them. You have given me a new impetus to my art. I live and work in China so CZcams is a godsend. I been attempting to do some monoprints and it has turned out to be messy fun and I'm really liking what I have been producing. I have even bought some oil paint after being an avid acrylic painter for so long to see if the oil (as you use it) give me a different perspective on the technique. Anyway thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you so much, I'm very pleased to know that you have enjoyed watching these demo videos, I hope you get some good results with your own work. Thanks for watching.
Wow, this is great 👍
Thanks a lot!
That is soo inspiring..technique-wise...Thanks

love it.
Your art is great, as always.
Thank you so much 😀
It's funny that you mentioned plankton in reply to another person who commented here. Last summer, I got really into plankton and painted about six huge canvases with plankton-like shapes. I thought they were really beautiful but not one of them sold! 😂. I'm thinking that some of them looked too much like the Corona virus. Sigh. Anyway, I'm rethinking those paintings...
Sorry for the late reply, glad you found the demo interesting. I plan to work on more of these, it's amazing how you can find inspiration from unlikely places.
Really amazing!!
Thank you 😊
Fantastic idea Dan. I like the results.
Thanks 👍

Thank you
Hi Dan. This is a different approach to stenciling, I like it. It gives a sense of movement, excitement and almost of them being living. (If that doesn't seem silly.) The possibilities are virtually endless using this technique. As I watched it, all sorts of variations were coming to my mind. I don't mean to come across as being over dramatic. However, my brain was flooding me with images of colour combinations, different media etc. As if I was watching a speeded up cartoon, at the same time as watching your demo. I don't think I've ever had that experience before. You just triggered my mind into waking up to so many new ideas. It's amazing that seeing something fresh, can open new doors in the creative mind. You certainly have returned bursting with new ideas. It's good to see, Thank you for this.
Hi Gordon, thanks very much for the feedback, it's really appreciated. I've got some technical issues at the moment so communication is difficult. It's good what you say about the stencils because the ones I used in this demo are based on microscopic images of plankton, I was fascinated by the endless forms and variety (worth a Google) it's mind-boggling so it found it's way into this work. I will explore a few larger pieces based on this sketchbook and film a demo. It's good to try various colours and the use of spray paint is very satisfying. More to follow.
