Project Gemini Pt. II [4K]
Please read the pinned comment BEFORE making corrections/suggestions -- it may already have been mentioned
None of the music is mine. NASA footage is public domain.
00:00 Getting Ahead
41:08 Hidden Dangers
1:36:27 Frustrations
2:00:13 Overcoming
I understand that much of the footage isn't scanned in 4K, but the reason I mention it is primarily for the still images used, which are scanned in beyond 4K. In the specific case of this video, all mission images AND the moving film from Gemini 9-12 is extremely high resolution, justifying a 4K render.

Finally, if you'd like to be a part of a Discord server that I am in, here is a link. Just keep in mind this is NOT my server, and therefore isn't 100% about me. It's generally pretty quiet, and we creators only really use it to share media and links and bounce ideas off of each other. It's a nice place, but don't expect it to be very chatty! I wonder if the person who refused the request for on orbit photography has ever been held to account for that decision? If not then I really hope Karma is a thing and pays them seven visits.

One curious anomaly never mentioned when discussing the guidance systems of the Voyagers is the model of the solar systems path through space has been changed since they were launched. From a slowly revolving elliptical to a spiraling one traveling at blistering speeds. One can easily see how this discrepancy would hinder navigation.

The footage they grabbed of the live launch of a Polaris SLBM from the USS Ben Franklin is quite amazing. I'd never seen that footage before.

is this pronouncement of “Gemini” correct?

    • @JacksonTyler
      @JacksonTyler Před 2 dny

I explore this exact question in Part One. The short version: most historians believe the “Jiminy” pronunciation was a reflection of southern culture as a result of many of NASA’s facilities being located in southern states. (Huntsville, Houston, The Cape just to name a few). As you were hopefully able to tell in this film, most astronauts and talking heads used the -ee pronunciation with only a few exceptions, notably Bob Seamans, who was from Massachusetts. The most direct secondary material we have that addresses this comes from a NYT article published in 1965. www.nytimes.com/1965/04/03/archives/nasa-clears-up-way-gemini-is-pronounced.html Many seem to have adopted the position that “-eye” is used for the constellation, and “-ee” is used for the spacecraft. I hope this provides some insight into my editorial choices in the film. You aren’t the first to ask, and you won’t be the last.

I was eight years old when Apollo 11 went to the Moon. When they were on the Moon, I mistakenly believed that Collins landed with Armstrong and Aldrin and had to stay in the LM while they went outside. That would have been pretty strange.

As bad as it sounds, im happy your not a high view high sub channel. I feel this way because its like i stumbled upon some treasures in a landfill full of documentaries with poor music to audio volume ratios, and over use of cg effects as well as embellishment or twisting the facts. This is such great content, and you should be proud of all the work you have done. Hell, as far as i can tell your Voyager documentary does a far better job of presenting and thoroughly tieing the missions together than anything else out there. So far its my favorite. Do you plan on doing one on the Spirit and Opportunity rovers on Mars?

If these homemade documentaries are truly homemade then I have to commend whoever is putting in the time and work to make them better than some you would see on the history Channel. Most my life I have always watched anything concerning space flight and especially the Apollo program. I've seen footage on some of these that I have not seen before.. That's exciting to me. Makes me wonder how much footage there still is out there that hasn't been seen.. Thank you whoever you are for providing the footage in a clean and educational manner. Please keep it going!!!

I know I am a little late to the game here as far as your "Homemade Documentaries" So glad the algorithm placed in front of me something of this quality. I grew up in the Antelope Valley in southern California so aviation and cutting edge aviation runs in my blood. Both of my in-laws worked at Skunkworks there in Palmdale.. What I am getting at is these Documentaries are every bit as good as anything I've watched from Discovery, History, and PBS, if not better. I know it's a lot of time and work but these are incredibly well done..

Funny how NASA executives think naming spacecraft iconic/funny names means the Astronauts aren't taking the space program seriously when they aren't the ones literally putting their lives on the line! Yea, Imma strap myself into a capsule on top of this ICBM, completely risking death in a myriad of ways, but naming a spacecraft is an issue....

Werner von Braun, a proud Nazi and the engineer who led the development of the V1 and V2 vengeance weapons, and who became a celebrated NASA leader. This man's efforts killed thousands of innocent victims in the UK. Yet, this man never paid for his crimes. The entire US space program was built upon technologies that were developed by the Nazis to kill civilians.

I hope I live long enough to see the results of probes that melt/drill into Europa and Enceladus. There may be microbes elsewhere in the Solar system, but I'd bet decent money things have proper fins and/or tentacles on those two moons. Obviously I have no evidence to believe there definitely is life, but liquid water seems to be the magic solvent for life, those moons have plenty of it.

I was excited about a documentary about the Voyager program, but I experienced mild disappointment that it was less than 3 hours long. Also, I'm halfway through and I've only learned about a dozen or so new things. I hope your newer projects are higher quality than this one. Hello there, and thank you for reading this! Before anyone excoriates me for being a prick, I was being a facetious prick. In all honesty, this "homemade" documentary has higher production value than anything I've seen on the History Channel in years, and the depth of information is amazing. I've always been a space nerd since I watched STS-1 launch in 1981, I have a STEM degree, and I was still a nerd when I had a aerospace job in the military. Watching these videos is as close as I want to get to knowing what it must be like for an addict to inherit a fortune, and spend it all on top shelf dope. Thank you.
