I understand that much of the footage isn't scanned in 4K, but the reason I mention it is primarily for the still images used, which are scanned in beyond 4K. In the specific case of this video, all mission images AND the moving film from Gemini 9-12 is extremely high resolution, justifying a 4K render.

Finally, if you'd like to be a part of a Discord server that I am in, here is a link. Just keep in mind this is NOT my server, and therefore isn't 100% about me. It's generally pretty quiet, and we creators only really use it to share media and links and bounce ideas off of each other. It's a nice place, but don't expect it to be very chatty! Feel free to stop in and say hi!

1:02:10 - Forgot to add "CGI" tag for the Gemini 8 spinning sequences. Oops!
Literally unwatchable!
As a space exploration nerd since early childhood and having watched many, many documentaries, and this series being the best I've ever seen, you can be forgiven for that.
Amazing series, would you ever consider doing documentaries on the soviet side of things?
I’d love to - the limiting factor there is availability of access to high quality Soviet footage. There was never much money in digitization over there, and now it’s all the more difficult for an American to try.
@@mytho_AU 😂
We don't deserve this level of documentary on mere CZcams.
Should be in the theatre
At least is not on History Channel
@@neves5083On history channel would be a 45 min documentary and would start at the Wright brothers reaching Gemini at the 30 min mark.
@MuitoDaora If History Channel had made this documentary it would be actually turn out to be about the truck drivers who drive the vehicles to launch pad and those drivers would ham it up with atrocious overacting while drum music and sound effects explode in the background.
@SofaKingShit I’m very tired of the “let’s do it live action with actors” approach when all this footage of the real thing exists…
Here we go again: The GOLD-Standard in Space Documentaries on CZcams is back.
Can't wait to see it. Thank you so much for posting. 😃👍
**cough** Ahem. The GOLD-Standard in Space Documentaries, period. On CZcams or anywhere else.
As soon as I saw this online, I cancelled everything else and sat down. The most well made and presented series on the platform.
Same here. YT luckily bumped this immediately to be seen.
Same! “Sry, urgent “project” has just come up…” 😅😁
Likewise... I was about to settle in for a big gaming session of Elite Dangerous, when I saw this was up.. 2 hours 45 minutes? Hell yeah! Let's do this!
I'm a person with a really short attention span and normally struggle by any video longer than 10-20 minutes - but not with these documentations!
Me too !!!
The God has finally spoken. Excited to watch this.
Now I won't get any sleep tonight. Let's agree moving forward Friday nights
No, I didn't say anything...
this is so true
YESSSSSSSSSSSS *rips off clothing and goes streaking…*. “Part twoooooooooooooooooooooo”
I relate to that joy!
Tom Stafford, what a hell of an astronaut. Two Gemini missions, around the moon and commanding ASTP?! One of the best star pilots this galaxy's ever seen.
Agree, but also John Young. Flying two Gemini missions, Command Module Pilot on Apollo 10, commander and piloting the lunar lander on Apollo 16, first to fly the Space Shuttle in orbit and commanding STS-9 shuttle mission :)
@@karlzen86 John Young was a rock
WAKE UP, MOM! The new Homemade Documentaries video just dropped
I've watched part 1 like 10 times. Thanks for part 2!!
Same lol applies for all of them
Every night while heading to bed for me 😅
@@gollem148 Me too! I think Ive fallen asleep watching it dozens of times.
saaaaame😊
I replay part 1 every time I drive to the Cape. I was already starting to prep for next month.
I met a gentleman a few years ago who worked at Johnson Space Center in the 60s. He described the engineers there as so brilliant that they didn't have common sense. Many would get lost in the building regularly and frequently forget where they parked. Complex equations and proving theoretical physics, no problem. Working a water fountain... complex issue. It is amazing to think of how many minds it took to make this happen.
Drugs and the 60’s. A terrible thing.
Hands down the best space exploration documentaries, I love how you pace the scenes and the editing. Fantastic stuff.
This is some of the finest content on CZcams. The doc on the Voyagers is especially visually stunning, hauntingly beautiful, and expertly narrated and edited. All of the Homemade Documentaries fit this description as well. I have cried real tears watching our struggles in space during Gemini, our trials and achievements during Apollo, awed to near submission at the grandeur of the images of just our solar system from Voyager, Cassini, and Huygens. I lived through most of these events and times, and I stand on the belief that Homemade Documentaries has covered all of these things in the most accomplished, professional and accurate manner as I have ever seen.
What a treat to wake up early for a flight and have part 2 in the queue. I know you went through a lot to get this done, and we truly, truly appreciate you. Your work is fantastic and on par with huge production companies. Downloading now. You just made Boston to San Antonio SO much better!
It’s actually much better than what the huge production companies produce. Informative, intelligent, visually excellent, very well researched. I’d go as far as to say these are *important* documentaries.
@@MichaelWillems Right you are. I posted the comment as it was downloading and before watching this installment based on his previous work. It’s even better than I remember! Better than many things I’ve seen on TV or paid streaming services. I can’t think of anyone who has done this deep a dive on Gemini.
This feels similar to when Primitive Technologies reappeared.
Thank you so much for all that you do to produce quality content in a world of bunk.
Thank you for monetizing this without a bunch of commercials. I would really enjoy seeing a documentary on Skylab by the way. You do great work young man keep it up!!
Yes Skylab next a 3 parter obviously
Your work is greatly appreciated, I patiently await each and every video. The audio is superbly well balanced.
That’s actually surprising to hear since I mix with headphones and typically that’s frowned upon. I’ve gotten better at letting off the music during dialogue…lol
@@JacksonTyler your work is amazing
Oh my LORD, HE'S BACK!
I have to thank you for your awesome work. I came across your channel randomly a couple of years ago while searching for some long documentaries about space exploration. I've watched all of your space documentaries at least once, and I've listened to them again countless more times.
I have a condition that makes it difficult to fall asleep in complete silence and I usually put something on, playing quietly in the background when I go to bed. In the past two years it was mostly your videos or Drachinifel's channel about Naval history that soothed me to sleep every night.
From the bottom of my heart - Thank You!
Drach is a lifesaver. No ads, soothing voice, 3 hour videos. Homemade Documentaries is just as good, unfortunately we don't get new content every week 😮💨
Yes, there's something about the vibe and energy on these documentaries that comes through that is soothing, peaceful, and respectful.
I've been waiting 2 years for this. I'll watch it fully once, then I will fall asleep to it many many more times. The quality of these documentaries is incredible.
SWEET!!
Gemini part II.
You have no idea how much I've been waiting for this.
The finest youtube documentary maker strikes again, superb.
at 2:29:40 when Aldrin raised his sun visor to look at the camera and wave, it felt like I was right there with him.
I decided to finally binge-watch the whole series from Mercury on up after I saw you’d uploaded Gemini Part II. The whole way through, I’ve been absolutely captivated. By god, what an incredible documentary series - as a fellow public historian and early NASA enthusiast, I salute you. Keep doing what you’re doing. Ad astra.
I can tell you are a space nut like me because every time a Titan launch was shown you played actual Titan launch sounds. There’s no mistaking that high pitched whine that happens at engine start during a Titan launch. Good attention to detail sir! ❤
Only 75000 subs??? Wtf?? Your channel is awsome
! Great work in getting this done! I have been looking forward to it for a long time! 👍
Long live Homemade Documentaries 🎉🎉🎉
Why this channel doesn’t have at least 10 times more subs and views is beyond me. This is top tier stuff.
I had just made a note to myself that it was a shame that there wasn’t a part two yet. Wait no more, perfect timing!
The gold standard of CZcams documentaries...any genre. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up.
As a child, my favorite Documentary that i watched several times growing up as a teen was "Moon Machines". It gave me lumps in my throat through how emotional and awestruck it made me feel. Now, as a much older adult i feel the same way watching your documentaries, especially this one. This is hands down the best space documentary I have ever seen, as someone who has been watching space docs since I was a small child. This is a AAA+ quality doc. Thank you for the unimaginable time you must have pht into this. Thank you so much
I have been looking forward to this. Amazing production quality from the start.
Thank you SO much!!! Your space docs are the best. I even just listen to them once I'm familiar with the visuals. Great storytelling. You've made a bunch of people very happy. You keep making them, we'll keep watching them.
Simply stunning production quality for a "homemade" channel.
And I'd like to take a moment to specifically point out the excellent scripting/delivery/audio quality of the dialogue, which ties it all together.
Firm, confident, self-assured, well-rehearsed, no stumbles or fumbles of pronunciation. If I had to describe the audio in one word: "polished".
Outstanding work mate, thank you indeed.
This is beyond amazing. The care and craft you put into this is second to none. You gave more than earned my sub. Can’t wait to see what you do next!!! ❤
SO EXCITED. These are the best documentaries I've ever seen, especially on spaceflight. Keep up the great work, and thank you for all the effort that went into this work.
Yes! Amazingly done. I've watched them all.
I knew a fair amount about the Gemini program from other documentaries, but they all pretty much glossed over Gemini X-XII, so I loved the additional details on those missions. I also hadn’t ever heard of the alternative docking target or the problems that Gemini IX had with it. This was well worth the wait.
Ok, just watched it. You have surpassed yourself. Documentaries that are not dumbed down. Amazing. You deserve a million followers. And I can’t wait for the next one!
You can say the way I reacted to seeing this was shock and joy, thank you so much please never stop.
There is no other channel where I’m more happy to see a new upload than yours! Thank you so much for all the effort and love for details you put into this.
Best wishes from Germany!
Woo-hoo, been waiting for this. Love your documentaries!
Was wondering when we were going to see part 2. Magnificent, well done sir, and thank you from someone who was nine in 1965.
I wanted to watch this the minute it dropped, had to force myself to wait until I had time to watch the whole thing. Worth it! The amazing quality of your work is, uh...amazing.
The only notification I get excited about. Tks JT.
The only place for the best space documentaries.
Instantly started watching the second i saw it, you're doing an amazing job, thank you for your hard work and dedication 💙
Thanks man, these docs are easily the best thing online.
Let's goooo!!!!!! Your videos are by far my favorite aerospace videos out there!!!!
It's been awhile since my jaw dropped when I see my CZcams feed, but this did it. YEEAAAHHH!
I've been waiting for this for so long! What a treat to start the day with!
Absolutely mind blowing, as always. This is not only criminally underrated - it deserves, more than anything I know, a spot on international streaming services, on national TV the world over.
Insanely beautiful. Thank you HMD
This man is working a lot for his videos just to get this amount of views. Meanwhile people on tik tok who do weird dances get millions of views on their videos.
Today at work is going to be a very long day until I can get home and have enough time to watch this!!!!!
Yes the best in the business is back!
I'd almost given up hope of a 2nd installment of your Gemini masterpiece!
That's my next almost 3 hours sorted!
Thanks again for what will no doubt be another masterpiece of manned space flight history.
YESSSSS HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!! Ive binged all these videos so many times and have been waiting for this part 2. I'm so happy!!!
Best documentaries about the space program! The wait is over ❤
YES!!! I am so happy this is out. Thank you for all your hard work.
Good work my man. The attention to detail is amazing. I look forward to the next one.
AWWWWWWWYISSSSSSSSSS I work nights, and guess who is gonna be tired tonight at work? Welcome back, Tyler. I have been waiting for this.
Sir, your work is the gold standard in this genre. Thankyou for the effort and never doubt how much it is appreciated.
Been waiting for this one. Thank you for your incredible work
made my 2024.
Your videos are hands down the best on early spaceflight in existence
OH MY GOD YES.
Okay calm.
My dad and I really bonded over watching your Mercury and Gemini 1 videos because he remembered the events depicted just barely, and he was really looking forward to this! I'll send it over to him.
I love that your part 2 is 2 hours and 45 minutes!!! Attention to detail. Your docs are FN GOLD!!!
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!! Thanks so much for doing this (very much expected) video !! I can't wait to dive into it. Your videos are just some of the best I've seen. Thanks again :)
Absolutely love your quality stuff. Your documentaries have taught me so much on early spaceflight
oh wow i just found your channel not too long ago and finished gemini part 1 _literally_ 30 seconds ago. this feels serendipitous. good stuff!
I’ve been anticipating Project Gemini Part II for so long and having watched it I must say that I consider this series to be the definitive video history of the Gemini program. Well done! Watching your videos on the space program brings back those wonderful days of my youth, watching Walter Cronkite on CBS describing the missions of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo. Thank you.
Oh my God you finally did it!!!! Thank you very much 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I always found Project Gemini to be the most fascinating US space flight program. That exciting phase between Mercury and Apollo - Ed White's first EVA, space docking, the spinning incident, all the problems and solutions that prepared NASA for Apollo ... and the footage they took looks so great!
Combined with the best space documentary series I have ever seen, this is gonna be amazing. Absolutely marvelous work as always!
I want to add something. Having watched every BBC and PBS (etc) documentary on the space program, I can say that your documentaries have majorly increased my understanding of this program. I probably understand four times more now than I ever did before. I understand the sequence of programs, and flights within them, and the way each one perfected a certain necessary aspect of moon flight. In other words, the space program, and the great engineering behind it, makes sense now.
Compliments, again, from this engineer.
Thank you!
Yay!!! I woke up in the middle of the night and saw this, thought I was dreaming at first. Thank you for all the work you did! This is amazing
Riveting, informative and beautiful. This channel is the gold standard of documentary making on youtube.
Absolutely spectacular. I watched every mission as a kid in the 1960’s, and this allowed me to relive those moments. Amazing work…
good lord how i've waited, i am so so so excited
OH WOW ITS HERE!!!!!
So excited for this, thank you for your hard work
The turbopumps spinning-up on engine start is one of the few sounds that gives me chills! They had their issues for sure, these rockets, but so much personality too!
From the screaming spin-up to the smokeless ascent, to the twin bell single engine! I LOVE these rockets! Couldn't imagine our space story without them. 🇺🇲
So many superlatives in the comments-
And you deserve them ALL.
Thank You for this brilliant documentary.
I was a kid when this all happened - I’m old now. You’ve given me a trip back to when the space program was a beacon of hope and positive change.
Your efforts are to be commended.
👍 😎
This is just the highest quality content ever, you made my day by uploading
YESSSS I swear I watch your videos daily. Content is unmatched!
i just discovered u the other day and i love these so much, the writing, voiceover, clips, and detail is truly astounding and just what i was looking for
It’s all been said many times but no network or production company is doing work of this quality. Thanks so much.
Your work is incredible. Looking forward to this!
Haven’t even watched this yet but I’m already commenting just to make sure everyone knows how truly excited I am to watch this.
Also, if you’re not supporting this guy on Patreon yet, do yourself and all of us a favor and cough up the $5 a month so we can keep getting content this incredible.
When we needed him most, he returned! Thanks for the work you do in these, Lord knows how much work goes into these.
Another fantastic documentary. Thank you for making these
Man, I had been waiting for this episode. I was really looking forward to it, and you did not disappoint!
I had never seen so much footage from the Gemini 6A + 7 rendezvous before, beautiful.
I've also never heard so much detail about Neil & Dave's wild ride.
I've been waiting two years so excited
Whenever I have a tough time I watch one of your documentaries. I have probably watched them dozens of times. They never fail to inspire me. When I saw you uploaded today, I could not wait to press play!
Thank you for all the hard work you put into this!!
Excellent video. When I was growing up in the 1960's and 70's, the astronauts were my personal heroes, because they were doing things that most everyone else thought were impossible. It truly saddened me when the Apollo program ended - it was mans greatest accomplishment.
Классно всё показано. Без прикрас и лозунгов.
I love your documentaries so much. Thank you for making them!
To say we are so back would be an understatement
simply phenomenal work, well done on all levels
Thank you for all the excellent documentaries! You do outstanding work!
I absolutely love your work. Its the best documentary I have ever seen on the space race. Great work!
I love your documentaries. After binge watching your older ones last year I was pleasantly surprised to see a new release. Please keep it up!
Been waiting for the Part 1 follow-up. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Instantly clicked soon as I saw it come up in my feed. Been waiting for part 2 for awhile. I can't get enough of these documentaries, so much detail and info packed into it, and making me want more even after almost 3 hours..... Keep up the hard work!
Brilliant! I thought I would check it out for a few minutes and ended up watching the whole thing! Just super.
one of the best docs ive seen on Gemini , thank you very much
Great writing, narration and editing. Thanks for finding the fantastic archive footage too!
