    Interesting, does this work for on-stage live performance in-ear monitor where everyone is connected to the same network?

    • @TheBenjaneerAudio
      @TheBenjaneerAudio Před 2 měsíci

      If you are all in the same location, it doesn’t make sense to use this. I would just route normal audio to in-ears and not require internet. But if you need to include someone from another location, you could have them on sonobus plugged into your sound board running the in-ears.

    • @TheBenjaneerAudio
      @TheBenjaneerAudio Před 2 měsíci

      @@jezmyrbernardo2665 It's possible to do it with sonobus, but unless you are planning on hooking all the phones up over ethernet cables, you are going to run into issues wirelessly and I personally wouldn't want to rely on this in a live performance setting. I would look into either some cheap IEMs or run some headphone cables if you can't afford to go that route. But feel free to experiment and see if you can get good results with Sonobus. The latency is not bad if you can stay on the same network, wired (not wireless).

      @@TheBenjaneerAudio Good point, I actually tried it on my studio and it doesn't really have significant changes in latency. Pretty much the same with connecting it to the internet. Thank you for your content. We might be able to use this as comms and not for live sounds.

    As a drummer trying to use my Edrum set to practice with my friends. Its frustrating, and a big waste of everyone's time trying to get all the latency out and play on time. Do yourself a favor and stay away from both. .

    • @TheBenjaneerAudio
      @TheBenjaneerAudio Před 5 měsíci

      Yes, there is definitely a challenge, especially for the drummer in this scenario. It's not most ideal way to do a traditional jam session. But for other use cases where all remote players can play to a non-live drum track or clock source, you can get a decent result. Plus I have used it for other purposes, remote recording, writing, etc. but for basic jamming together, you have to battle the latency.

    So every sonobus instance is both a client and a server? This is looking promising for my streaming from windows to linux comms

    • @orthodoxNPC
      @orthodoxNPC Před 10 měsíci

      I can only select one input for each instance of sonobus... am I missing something? For example, in the input mixer when I add a new input group the only option is the same input channel already selected in the audio setup window. The audio setup window allows only one input to be selected. Right now running two VB-virtual-audio-cables to two sonobus instances seems to be the only way to control two audio sources

    • @TheBenjaneerAudio
      @TheBenjaneerAudio Před 10 měsíci

      Yes. Sonobus works peer to peer. So there is no server middle man. Each instance will accept a sound device and whatever inputs are available from the interface.

    • @orthodoxNPC
      @orthodoxNPC Před 10 měsíci

      @@TheBenjaneerAudioOK I see the part I missed. You started directly with an ASIO device where I am using windows audio routing. So it seems there is a bit of UI work to be done with multiple simultaneous windows audio device routes into the sonobus interface. It works with multiple instances just a little quirky at the moment. Overall excellent project, IMO.

    @frankpaws Před 11 měsíci

    Wow. Your channel setup is exactly like mine. I've not seen anyone else do it like this before other than me. Only difference is I send every thing to an Aux track since it is post fader inserts then to a master which is pre fader insets. Depending on material, it helps the balance, to me at least, to have some compression and EQ so I can control how they react and master fader for light touch ups.

    Our group is enjoying Jamulus, there's 7 of us . I'm not clear on if you are doing a multichannel record of all the each track. Is a doing a multichannel record possible. I'm on a PC and use Adobe Audition. Your thoughts?

    • @TheBenjaneerAudio
      @TheBenjaneerAudio Před rokem

      So, with Jamulus, there is a server setting (whoever is hosting the server you are connecting to) where you can record all the members separately. Once you stop the server, it will save down the recordings. Not really as easy as other solutions like Sonobus. but it is possible. You wouldn't be able to do this in a public channel, someone has to host the server you all connect to and configure the correct settings to record.

    • @TheBenjaneerAudio
      @TheBenjaneerAudio Před rokem

      I haven't done this in Reaper, but most DAWs have a MIDI Synchronization feature where you can send midi timecode from 1 DAW and setup the receiving end to work as a slave to the master sending. I used to do this with Tape Machines and Pro Tools many years ago (in this case, using timecode printed on tape). I can't give you specific instructions for reaper, but I'm sure if you search the web, you can find instructions.

    Jamulus being 2003 client/server technology it is the least pleasurable platform I've used, the least controllable, weakest feature set, all in all cumbersome if you want to use it with a DAW, undesirable in my view, I've tried a half dozen. IMO Sonobus is the leader, it is P2P, either client or Plugin & codec selectable and has many other features, always improving!
