Hey, I have a question. Can I stream my device audio via Sonobus? For example , I am playing some music on my PC and I want to stream that music to another PC, can it be done..??
Sorry for the late response. But yes. It can be used that way. If that’s your only use, there are other ways to do this too since latency wouldn’t be your factor. But that’s pretty much the purpose.
you have a few options to route your plugins. You either need to use SonoBus as a VST / Plugin inside of your DAW. This will give you the most flexibility. Or, you have to virtually route your stand-alone programs into the standalone SonoBus software using something like Blackhole/Loopback/VoiceMeeter. I use Pro Tools and just add sonobos to an Aux track
Ben, my friend and I have been trying to get a good session with low latency for months and can’t seem to make it work. Would you consider helping us get the setup right with a paid session?
I suggest posting in the Sonobus Discord, you might even be able to get the creator of SonoBus Jessie to help you out. In some cases, you just are dependent on things that are out of your control, like how your connection is routed to the remote players across the internet. Also, if are expecting under 30ms of latency, that's not realistic. If you are optimizing your buffer settings, using hardware that can get small buffer sizes under 128, using wired internet with good bandwidth (all players in session) and limiting the other conflicts that might be chewing away your internet, that might be the best you can do.
If you are all in the same location, it doesn’t make sense to use this. I would just route normal audio to in-ears and not require internet. But if you need to include someone from another location, you could have them on sonobus plugged into your sound board running the in-ears.
@@TheBenjaneerAudio we're looking for a way we can use our phones to monitor ourselves in a live setting, while we try to figure out what equipments to buy. since were really lacking in funds
@@jezmyrbernardo2665 It's possible to do it with sonobus, but unless you are planning on hooking all the phones up over ethernet cables, you are going to run into issues wirelessly and I personally wouldn't want to rely on this in a live performance setting. I would look into either some cheap IEMs or run some headphone cables if you can't afford to go that route. But feel free to experiment and see if you can get good results with Sonobus. The latency is not bad if you can stay on the same network, wired (not wireless).
@@TheBenjaneerAudio Good point, I actually tried it on my studio and it doesn't really have significant changes in latency. Pretty much the same with connecting it to the internet. Thank you for your content. We might be able to use this as comms and not for live sounds.
thanks for the video, but you didn't tell how to actually play live with other players without getting a delay. Whenever I tried using it, even with 25ms ping and a 9ms jitter buffer, I still couldn't play live with another guitar player. what's the secret? how everyone doing it?
I just stumbled across this software. It is pretty amazing!. I was wondering if it is possible to use this for a remote interview? Recording it on my computer so that my voice is recorded to one track and the remote on a different track. And possibly an interview with 2 or 3 people where all of them end up on different tracks?
@@TheBenjaneerAudio Can it be used inside a DAW and record directly to the tracks there? Also, is it possible for the remote person to record himself, so in case of a technical malfunction, there is a backup?
I would recommend showing three scenarios. 1. Standalone at both ends 2. Reaper at one end, standalone at the other ends 3. Hindenburg Pro at one end, standalone at the other ends: Is it possible to save the configuration of SonoBus to a file and load that some other place? Some people are not too technical and need a little help to get the config right. Would be nice to be able to send them a finished config.
@@SveinWisnaes because everyone will have different hardware, I don’t know if a configuration will be the same. If someone is using a standard 2 channel device, the setup is pretty simple and might work with little setup. Each user can hit record on their sonobus and will record locally. Since there is no server, it’s all recording locally on your own machines. So this will work as a backup. You can also use sonobus in a DAW and route users to separate channels for recording.
I can only select one input for each instance of sonobus... am I missing something? For example, in the input mixer when I add a new input group the only option is the same input channel already selected in the audio setup window. The audio setup window allows only one input to be selected. Right now running two VB-virtual-audio-cables to two sonobus instances seems to be the only way to control two audio sources
Yes. Sonobus works peer to peer. So there is no server middle man. Each instance will accept a sound device and whatever inputs are available from the interface.
@@TheBenjaneerAudioOK I see the part I missed. You started directly with an ASIO device where I am using windows audio routing. So it seems there is a bit of UI work to be done with multiple simultaneous windows audio device routes into the sonobus interface. It works with multiple instances just a little quirky at the moment. Overall excellent project, IMO.
Hi! I'm trying to use SonoBus with my music teacher, who lives in another city. He's got a Mac with a 2-input audio interface. Our problem is that he hears himself doubled. In my end, I was listening to everything perfectly. We tried everything we had in mind, with no good results. Could you please help? If I can't fix it I won't be able to get my music lessons. Thanks in advance!
There are a few scenarios this can happen. I would try this couple of things first: 1) have him try turn down the "monitoring" level inside of sonobus all the way, and see if he is still hearing himself. If so, then his audio device could have his inputs routed directly to the output for direct monitoring. He would need to adjust in the sound device settings. Sometimes as simple as turning the monitoring level knob down on device. 2) If that isn't the problem, make sure you are not looping back his audio back to him, this can happen if you are using speakers instead of headphones, or in some cases have headphones too loud. You can test this by muting all your sending audio and see if it fixes it. 3) If he is using a DAW, check the routing, make sure you aren't doubling up the monitoring. I would check those things.
Eu apenas consigo usar na mesma rede se eu precisar com outro computador fora da minha casa não funciona,o problema e´algo relacionado a firewall e ainda não consegui corrigir esse erro.Alguém pode me ajudar?
Yes, you can use software like OBS, and add Sonobus as a VST plugin. OBS will send to the stream service and combine your video signal with the audio from sonobus. I just tested this last night successfully.
Is it possible to stream with SonoBus directly from Logic Pro X? I’d like my dad to hear what I have recorded in Logic and the MIDI contents I’m working on…
Yes! you can use sonobus as a VST plugin inside of Logic and connect to your Dad directly from there. Or you can use a software like loopback or blackhole to connect Logic to sonobus standalone. But I recommend just using the plugin, it will be the easiest. I made a video on using SonoBus in Logic (mainly for multichannel audio, but you don't need to do that). check it out here: czcams.com/video/2cKYQF9d4XE/video.html
@@TheBenjaneerAudio Hi and thanks for your quick response. Could you please be a little more specific? How should the plugin be inserted? On the main stereo out? Please help...

As a drummer trying to use my Edrum set to practice with my friends. Its frustrating, and a big waste of everyone's time trying to get all the latency out and play on time. Do yourself a favor and stay away from both. .
Yes, there is definitely a challenge, especially for the drummer in this scenario. It's not most ideal way to do a traditional jam session. But for other use cases where all remote players can play to a non-live drum track or clock source, you can get a decent result. Plus I have used it for other purposes, remote recording, writing, etc. but for basic jamming together, you have to battle the latency.
can you do a video where you share PC audio via network to another PC? maybe latency test too somehow?
