This channel is all about providing mountain bikers and roadies with videos on popular and not so popular trails to plan ahead of their rides. As a fairly new rider in a new city I benefited from watching videos ahead of my ride, but I found that most videos were only covering some parts of the trails and leaving behind important details, like how to access them or whether harder trails had bypasses.

Girl you have to learn to use your gears properly...you come down that hill fast and was in a high gear coming up the other side...use the right gear so you not peddle so fast....you will figure it out with time
Where did you start from? I didn't recognize the early part of the trail. Thanks for posting!
Hi! This started close to the Sunnybrook dog park, behind the Sunnybrook hospital, there are different entry points
@@WhatTheTrail Thanks, I was looking at it from the south and east. There's a killer climb down Lawrence that goes up the switchbacks to Glendon College and then the climb back up to Park Lane.
Best time biking there is early morning or after rain it feel so fresh plus is empty
A couple of months ago i tried to ride the Betty Sutherland Trail down to York Mills but it was closed until 2026. It was blocked off at the 401 underpass. Would you know of an another way down from Sheppard to York Mills. Thanks for the guided tour, the trails are confusing.
Oh no! I didn’t know they had fully closed it. I haven’t ridden that section in a while. I think you can use Don Mills Road to connect between Sheppard and York Mills
@@WhatTheTrail I did the trail you suggested a month ago and it's still clear: Don Mills Road to connect between Sheppard and York Mills.
Strong smooth riding. I never would've guessed that you were taking it slow up the goat trail, if you hadn't mentioned it. 😄 Also, the 3rd person perspective is much appreciated. It's always great to be able to actually see how the trail is ridden on top of how it looks. 🤝
Cameras do not show good depth perception. Its much steeper. Fun trail though
I did not know u could go over so many things with mountain bike. I have fat bike i would assume its even easier?
Hi! I have never tried a fat bike so not sure, I would assume it feels smoother on a fat bike but it is also heavier and could be less nimble.
Use Trac X on CatTrike 700 recumb 10speed, Chain drag using my LG forward Sprocket and last 3 of Middle - any solutions? (I like a Trike bqz of meducal)
gap off that root to the step down slope
🔥🔥🔥
I've done all of the trails you were on countless times. A side trip out to the lighthouse at the end of Tommy Thomson Park is always fun (except for the damn speed bumps). Thankyou for posting!
Thanks! Yeah those are annoying 🤣
That's a tough ride kudos for doing it. You make entertaining videos.
Tough but fun ride it appears.
One of the best trails in the Don :)
That's quite a workout.
Hi. I love your videos. What app are you using to record the information and the live map? I don't post online, but my family mountain bikes and I'd love to be able to add that info to our home videos.
Hi! Thank you! I use my garmin computer to track my ride and then use garmin virb software to overlay the data to the gopro clip. Once I export it I then edit it normally with Davinci Resolve. All are free. Hope that helps :)
Lots of red light runners at the Lawrence Avenue crossing. Be careful before preceding.
Nice video! There is a spacer to help with the rear disk brake.
That wasn't today....its way too green
Hi! This was published last year in May :) i wish it was today
Have you ridden this trail recently? I have cleaned the entire trail but always have to walk the section at 0:43 because it looks washed out (in person) and there's like a small crater in the dirt after the blue pipes. I'm not really concerned with not making it up, just that if I send it the front wheel might lift causing a back flip of sorts. Any specific line to take or just go for it with speed and weight on the front wheel?
Yeah I rode it recently and it is now a little harder to get up the other side. I actually started using a shortcut on the left before the 2nd bridge that bypasses that g-out, since the bridge was under repair. Unfortunately I don’t have any tips on how to get up the other side, but will share if I try it out
Always beautiful on the trails anytime of the year but I really enjoy the fall colors. Only setback is not being able to see the complete trail from leaf coverage. Great views tho
Awesome! Me and my buds have been riding the don for a few months now and your videos are really helpful!
I’m glad they are helpful! 🤗
I used to lived at Yonge Eglinton , rode this almost daily every summer for 20 yrs , thanks for posting , bring back sweet memory !
That’s awesome!
I enjoy your videos. If you ever come to St Catharines I would like to ride the Laura Secord loop with you guys.
Thank you! Yeah that sounds great, we’ll reach out if we make it out there, are the trail still rideable this season?
Great video - how do you put all the details on the video - speed, heart rate etc.
Thanks! I export my garmin .fit file and use Garmin Virb software to overlay the stats to my gopro video. I then use Davinci Resolve to edit the video.
appreciate the educational video. I usually take Beaver Flats but after seeing your video I think I can add this into my route!
Thanks! Have fun riding catalyst :)
Awesome job on your videos. I love you add the stats. These are tough trails. Keep riding and your skills and confidence level will grow.
Thank you! Appreciate it 😊
Thanks ❤
Love your video's. Are the trails easy to find and ride meaning labeled properly?
Thanks! Most trails in the Don, if not all, are not labeled, but once you find the entrance they are mostly easy to follow, it just depends on the trail difficulty
@@WhatTheTrail are they labeled at the beginning of the trail the difficulty?
No they don’t have any label for name or difficulty, the best way to check is using Trailforks.
180 bpm the whole way lmao lets go
🤣 yeah my hr is pretty high on average, I usually take short breaks
Nice to see someone else riding in the Don Valley with a Canyon. I ordered a Spectral 125 and it looks like whoever installed the bottom bracket messed up and the tool slipped resulting in a gash just above the BB. I was a bit worried the frame was cracked or compromised but it looked superficial. Also my bike came with an incompatible dropper post lever. The final straw was about a week in (still haven't ridden it at this point) when the cables in the rear triangle started squeaking. I think I might have just gotten a lemon so I decided to return it, which was a pain since I had to repack it and have to file a claim with CBSA for the taxes and duties I paid. I don't know why people gripe about Canyon CS though, being in Germany they responded a few times per week and I was able to get free shipping and a tubeless kit for my troubles.
Oh no! Are you getting the same model? Or just returned it and getting a different one? Yeah I had a good service experience despite the packaging issue.
@@WhatTheTrail purchased the trek roscoe in the meantime, might purchase the spectral 125, spectral, or torque in the future, I really like canyon bikes 🫣
Nice! Yeah Canyons are nice and have good price to value ratio. Hope all works well
You should make a video on Loopy Gundy!
Yeah I think I have one that I have not published but I’ll try to share one
do you ever see rabbits on the trails or bike path?🐇
Hi! Yes sometimes. Usually the ones near the river, Boo, Beaver Flats, sometimes in Motown, but I think it is usually in the quieter hours of the day
I’m planning on taking a 9 year old with me to the don, he’s never mountain bikes before and can’t do medium steep uphills/descents as well as jumping over obstacles such as roots, logs, and rocks. I’m not too familiar with the don but any trails you can recommend for that type of level closer to the top of the park such as rollerflowster and about till the end of beaver flats
Hi! Did you mean he can or he can’t? In that area maybe you can try parkour, or road apples, those are easy/intermediate. Or you can try fiveplay and sixplay, those are intermediate/advanced but not very technical
Hope to ride along with you, Canyon bike owner here as well from Toronto. Nice content though
Thanks! I’m usually in the Don, we can also organiza group rides on Discord
@@WhatTheTrail Awesome!! im in. Give me some details.
Nice video
Just received my Lux WC CF. I noticed they heavily padded that area in the packing where yours was damaged, so they either learned from the mistake or yours wasn't packed properly.
Glad to hear that! They might have packed it incorrectly
You really helped me a lot and gave me the courage to try a blue trail the other day! Any easy/medium trails you recommend for cruising with some friends while getting some adrenaline?
Oh that’s great! 🤗 are you looking for trails in the Don? Or Dagmar? In the Don you can try Beaver flats or The Ridge, another fun one is Training loop going north to south
@@WhatTheTrail Amazing I’ll try them out :) thanks a lot man and keep up the amazing vids
These are directional trails that are not loops I take it? Are there other trails that take you back?
Yeah, this trail is ridden in one direction, at the end you can take the road back to other areas of the Don. I would recommend checking out Trailforks to find other connecting trails
@@WhatTheTrail ya I had a quick look at it but was looking for a place to start, not being familiar with the Don at all. All part of the adventure though. Thanks
You could start at the Leslie and Eglinton parking lot and do a loop from there. Are you looking for an easy loop or a hard loop? If easy/intermediate, you could try Boo, training loop, beaver flats, swamp, woods gundy, swamp. If hard, you could try swamp, woods gundy, secret hidden, asylum climb, g spot, roller flowster, road apples, screwdriver, trash panda.
@@WhatTheTrail I just built my son a bike and he is just getting into MTBiking. I''m clipped in and he isn't yet. I like climbing hills. I will keep leslie and eglington in mind. Ty Ty. I hope it doesn't rain on my birthday.
Roller flowster looks so good though!
Thanks for letting us ride between your boobs. Going to try and find this trail tomorrow or Monday. Happy Canada Day.
that bayview uphill a killer 😂
Yeah it’s always fun 🤣
I just did these trails last night for the first time.
What was your average speed? Looks like a great trail to ride.
Hi! Not sure about this ride but I probably average around 20-22km/hr
I came to watch this again to see your line, I fell over at 0:37 in your video on the weekend and bent my brake lever :(
Oh no! Yeah that section I don’t like but I just learned to let go and not go too slow
Just a comment on the trail rating, as they Hydrocut is my home trails, yes the blacks are definitely over rated (more like blues) but there is a big jump in difficulty to the double blacks and their rating is very true. The double blacks there have mandatory large drops, jumps, and technical features with no ride arounds in most cases, so to anyone who hasn't been there before I wouldn't underestimate them.
Yes! Totally agree, I have not had the chance to ride the double black trails, I only tried to enter one of them and definitely worthy of the rating. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for this video. I will be using this trail :)
Thanks! Glad it helps!
Sweet bike!
Seems fairly mild for a double black. Am I missing something? Also, what's your overall feedback on Dagmar North? Favourite trails there?
Yes! It is very mild for a double black, I forgot to mention that in the video. I see in Trailforks users rate it as black. I liked Dagmar, it was fun to ride the full loop, I would say my favorites were Skin and Bones, Biopace, and Seven. Zipline is fun but short.
@@WhatTheTrail Awesome, thanks! I'm looking forward to getting out there in the spring. Keep crushing it!
I appreciate you skipping the skinny, skinnies are my kryptonite
Yeah they are not my favorite but I try to ride them if they are not too risky
@@WhatTheTrail If it is less than 3 feet wide I have a hard time, the same with trails. Sad news for me considering how most of the Don Valley trails are :(
Well done on your first race! You have provided a lot of important feedback! Way to power through! I'm doing my first race in July this year.
Thanks! Appreciate it and good luck on your first race!
Did you do the 24 hour race back in June?
Hi! I did not, last year I only participated in O Cup #1, maybe this year I’ll attend more.
