I so wish they would get this car out of the great Coventry car museum & fire up its engines again. The crowd would be amazing! Its sad these amazing vehicles get retired & hidden away when they are capable of so much more. Just hearing the jet engines firing up is amazing

I was working for Arrows F1 at the time this happened. The internet was not so good back then, but when Andy did the first run everything stopped & we all watched the original broadcast in between making sure our F1 car was sorted. F1 people very good at multi tasking 🙂 This was a stunning event & I'm very happy to have met Andy & Richard at BAR F1 later on. Amazing people

Steve WAS NOT too big for the car. We (I am/was both a Breedlove and Fossett team member ) only began the search for a woman driver AFTER it was clear that extensive search efforts yielded nothing in the densely covered mountains where Steve crashed. And suicide? A despicable, inane comment when referencing one of the most highly skilled pilots in the world at the time of his death. Further, as a pilot myself, the wind and weather at the time made flying difficult, especially in narrow canyons. It is our opinion, and that of crash site investigators, that the turbulent up-and-down drafts at the time were likely what brought the plane down. The video is incorrect about why Steve was flying at the time. We had already decided on a run site and were planning a speed attempt schedule. That late summer of 1960. There could have been a drag race between Campbell, Arfons ,Thompson and Ostich. Or Campbell could have been so impressed by Ostich 's jet car that he could have built a jet car himself with an Avon engine.

he didn't refuel on the second run? why was it to make it go faster. If he had? would it of still taken of has it would have been heavier, he was my schoolboy hero. went to do my paper round. on the front page Iam Going ,he was under pressure to do that run. The boat was at its limits. Sand bags on the front to stop it taking off boat should have been scrapped. great man

I have just been to the Bluebird museum. I am so proud to see bluebird. Who would’ve thought we would ever see this superb machine again. Donald Campbell is a legend in my books. Showed us what speed was all about and has now left us with a wonderful time pice. ❤

Why on Earth this has not been shown again on television I'll never know. I watched it transfixed all those years ago. I look forward to watching it again.

Campbell was one of my childhood heroes as I always wanted to attempt the WWSR. I visited his grave, I couldn't help but cry like a baby to think this great Man lay in the ground at my feet. Awesome to see Bluebird K7 running at Loch Fad. The 100+ run was beyond words. Bluebird looks so at home blasting down the lake.

Many, many thanks for sharing this. I saw this years ago as a kid and loved it then. I'm 48 now and that's the first time I have seen it since. Still think its a great drama. Anthony Hopkins is superb as always and looks just like Mr.Campbell. I would imagine his portrayal of him was just how he was.

I was only 12 when Donald Campbell lost his life,he was one of my boyhood heroes which I think is missing today,a brave man to the end & a true British legend,a breed of men that just isn’t around today,Colin P,👍
