C1 Corvette Early T10 4 Speed Rebuild and Upgrade
The early General Motors T10 4 speed used in 1957 to 1962 C1 Corvettes and the Chevrolet Bel Air was weak and eventually was replaced by the Muncie 4 speed in late 1963. This conversion installs stronger gears with better ratios while maintaining factory fit and shifters. The car runs a 3.08 axle with a 2.88 1st gear making is an ideal 4 speed with no need to go to a 5speed.

    I have a 1983 Jeep CJ7 with a t5 transmission. I need to replace the lower gear cluster. I find them on eBay but are the gears all the same or do I need a specific tooth count? Do you sell the rebuild kits and the parts I will need? I would like to order from you if you have them. Your videos are a huge help.

    My neighbor was a big hot rod builder back in the 60s and 70s and he was good people. and when he found out I was into cars he brought me into his shop and showed me the kind of stuff I'd only seen in magazines. He was rebuilding an original 426 hemi out of his buddies Road Runner that his step son had damaged by playing with fireworks in the garage as you do. But he had a Gm pattern 2wd 3 speed with OD that he gave me in exchange for cutting his grass all that summer and I'm pretty sure he made out on that deal lol. But he helped me put it in my 89 camaro😮, yeah its a frankencar. Over time I've automated the 12v solenoid with some cheapy electronics but it works fantastically, it's older than me and the car it's in and it's a conversation piece. Donny passed away in 2019 and I miss him everyday rip bud

    I noticed on my cover, once it’s all set up, I can actually shift it into 4th then also into 1st gear at the same time. Is this normal? I thought it should never be able to shift in multiple gears at once. It will block any other gear combination and shifts great otherwise. 20lbs spring, OEM shift arms, autogear detent levers, OEM shift forks.

    Paul! do you have any content on the Toyota R150F mated to a 5VZFE. I have so many questions + concerns after having to get a rebuilt gearbox shipped halfway across the USA to put into my old gen1 Tacoma with 341k miles at 26 years on the original clutch parts... the local transmission shop that was well paid to diagnose FAILED to properly diagnose this gen1 Tacoma when it started having odd noises at 290k miles, they had no clue with my verbal description about when it was happening and what it was sounding like.. they just said nothing found everything in good working order.. when obviously it was NOT now the rebuilt R150F is having oddities that the original gearbox did not ever have that i recall after 1/4 century of driving this pickup any content created for the R150F that i can learn more and field some queries I have driven manual Toyota gearboxes since 1990 in 4 different vehicles, i don't believe any were the W58 presented here but i sure enjoyed learning about the innards from your excellent presentation MT or BUST 8^}

    Hey bud, if you rotate the mount bracket to left so holes to edge where vertical and use one hole closer to front of tranny the bracket would've been correct lol but who cares u made one pretty quick so what happend?

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo Před 12 dny

      Maybe you don't understand. This is for a 32 spline extension housing that Hurst never made. The original bracket will not fit because the whole pattern is off. This simply replaces the 27th spline bracket with a 32 spline mount ability. There's no room to put a dual pattern on this because the bolts have to be countersunk. And a 32 spline extension only has three mounting holes

    Very informative video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on these transmissions. I have a car with the super T 10 Tranny. I would like to make this car have quicker shifts but my car didn't come with the second notch on the levers, it is a 1980 model Vette. Would you happen to know if there are any short throw levers available to place on this tranny or do I have to purchase a hurst shifter? I know earlier vettes with this tranny had 2 notches so you were able to lower to the bottom notch for quicker shifts. Why they did away with this great feature, who knows. Probably a money thing.

  • @greg55666
    @greg55666 Před 21 dnem

    That thing at 6:50 about the whole gear train blipping slightly backward when shifting isn't exactly true. The torque created from the blocking ring pressing against the cone of the speed gear is what moves the blocking ring slightly out of alignment (the indexing action), but only a half tooth one way or the other. The shift sleeve doesn't touch the speed gear until it can get past the blocking ring--that is of course what the blocking ring is for. But the important detail that you have wrong here is that when the shift sleeve slides through the blocking ring, the reason it is able to do so is because the speeds have become the same, or similar enough that the torque has lessened enough to let the blocking ring move backward (back into alignment with the teeth of the shift sleeve). And when the shift sleeve begins sliding past the blocking ring, the blocking ring "clutch" lets go of the gear entirely. It is no longer exerting ANY pressure against the speed gear. Up until this point the alignment of the teeth on the speed gear are totally irrelevant and totally random. Once the shift sleeve slides past the blocking ring, it is the tooth flanks of the teeth on the shift sleeve that make the final alignment with the teeth on the speed gear. That final alignment might be forward or might be backward, but at that point it's not a "blip" against the momentum of the rotating gear train at all. It's just like taking your finger and moving the gears in the transmission slightly backward or forward; that is the only pressure needed for the final alignment adjustment before the shift sleeve can complete locking onto the speed gear.
