    Recently got my M21 reassembled, and boy what a fantastic help this video series and your 661 store have been. And i struggled a bit on things you made look easy, but it all did go very well. Had to replace more things than I'd planned on, even bought a small press to get the job done. One thing I ended up doing that made a difference, when dropping my main shaft in I kept having issues getting the keys in the hub to line up with the slots in the ring. I just couldn't see any of it once they got close. I ended up using a sharpie to make marks on the hub where the keys were, and on the brass ring where I could still see them once the shafts got close. Worked like a charm. Should be back in the car this week. Thanks again Paul :)

Now I'm ready to go, I'm looking forward to it. Once again, I extend to you a very sincere Thank You.

One tip I have is that I use my Craftsman Workmate table for assembly. The table opens up for the input shaft to go through and you can bolt or clamp it down. Nice sturdy work surface to work on if you don't have the custom fixture.

    This is really what youtube is all about!
    Happily driving down the road in my Cobra replica I suddenly loose 2nd and 3rd gear...
    WFT???
    As a novice I feared mucho $$$ were going to be spent in repairs of my M22 (and who can even fix that here in Sweden). Also not being able to use the car all season... Very sad!
    So after some googeling the gearboxvideoguy shows up and explains exactly what was going on.
    Luckily my car has a little door right were the lid for the shifter forks is so I didnt even have to drop the gearbox.
    In less than an hour, I had fished out all the stuff that had fallen into the case. Welded a washer to the bolt that had fallen out and put everything together and I got a well needed gearbox oil change as a bonus!
    And as I couldnt take my eyes of any of the videos I also learned what the Muncie gearbox was all about and can enjoy the whine it makes even more.
    So thanks a bunch for making these videos!

    Lately there seems to be a mind set or trend that people expect me to respond to rebuild questions or any question for that matter immediately , on the weekend, within a day etc. Then they proceed to threaten me with unsubscribing or taking their business elsewhere because I didn't respond to their demands when they expect me to. First I do not care for rude people. As a person who has a 43 year old business trust me I won't loose sleep and your silly comments are deleted and future comments blocked. So here is a tip. If you have a question that is so important to you and that needs attention the last place you want to do that is on a platform that I get hundreds of comments a day on my 90 plus videos. Take the time and go onto my website which has my email address and phone and contact me. This info is in all of my videos. How did people get so lazy?

      We are in the process of making our own gear sets. The Italian gears have been problematic with delivery and they keep on getting pushed back. I was told now late June. I have really given up on dealing with them. I've been watching your videos a ton (great videos) and I've started my rebuild using them and the book of yours. I got a threaded Auto Gear input shaft like the original shaft and it came with a sealed bearing. Should I use the input shaft bearing that came in your kit or the sealed bearing from Auto Gear? Even then do I still use the oil slinger? Thanks for the help and keep the awesome videos coming!

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  Před 3 lety

      Did you get a case from them? If you have use the sealed bearing with no slinger. If you are using it in a standard case you must use the bearing that came in the kit. Autogear inputs move the cone in more so sometimes using a slinger can lock the unit up . Put with stock case most of the time it works fine with it.

Do you have a small hoist or hydraulic table jack you use to remove the rebuilt transmission from your fixture and put them on your work bench? Or do you just "man handle" them? I'm sure lifting 75 pounds all the time can get rough.

    Hi! Thanks for sharing these videos. They are very helpful. I have a question about my 1995 BMW E36 318ti manual transmission. It is Getrag. When I release the clutch in first gear, I hear loud grinding noise and gear slips out into the neutral. Sometimes when I shift it hard and quick, it doesn't give that trouble. I can pick it up in second gear without that issue. And also when I shift into the first I don't feel entering mechanism like I feel in other gears. I bought this car recently and it had been a non runner for a few years. I replaced the clutch and flywheel with used ones I had with me. Slave cylinder was bled. Few days back I changed the shifter gaiter. That time I had to pull the shifter thoroughly. After that the problem was OK for several times. Then again it started the previous habit. The car has done more than 300000 miles. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks and regards

      If you are trying to build a period correct restoration then you need to the correct parts and convert over. Otherwise simply get a speedo cable extender or a cable from a 70 Chevelle which will be the correct length and work in the Pontiac

      Hmm, I built a '70 LS6 (454 + .030" = 460 cuin, Moldex crank, 11.25 compression, Lambeth balanced, 530+HP on the ground on dyno-tires slipping) in '72 Z28 and the Muncie has never let me down, can't say the same for my poor pinion gear though. The 4-speed Muncie is tough, except now it's jumping out of second-oh well that's why I'm here...

    • @steeljohnson539
      @steeljohnson539 Před 2 lety +1

      @@jimpeeden2004 So if your car is making 530 to the ground on a chassis dyno then your probably somewhere in the low 600's brake hp. Was your Muncie torn down and freshened up? The transmission in this Camaro looks very clean so Im guessing it was rebuilt.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  Před 2 lety +2

      What most don't understand is that the transmission is loaded differently depending on the rear gear and tires. Basically the newer built M22 style gear boxes work well with no more than 650HP. But if you drop the clutch at 6500 RPM with a 3.08 rear and slicks, don't expect it to live long.

    • @GearBoxVideo

      That's a good question, but I haven't seen any issues with gaskets that have been on our shelves for over a year. That's why we have shrink wrapped on heavy cardstock.

    On my older case there was no way in hell the gears were going to drop in. 3/4 slider too large a diameter to clear the gear no matter where slider was placed. Way easier to drop in main shaft and come up from bottom with input, align, and then drive home the input shaft bearing. I would also suggest immediately putting on a nose cone temporarily to prevent the input shaft/bearing sliding out as the case plate is seated.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  Před rokem +1

      Shouldn't matter what case, but I always leave the front retainer off if Im installing a front bearing last or its in place. It may move forward but cant come out. Moving forward allows for clearance to connect the shafts together. Do it all the time, new and old cases
