    During this pandemic Paul has been a great help in both parts and the knowledge he has shared in his videos. I pulled the M-21 out of my Chevelle to do a clutch change and ended up rebuilding the transmission with a new AGE supercase, new midplate etc. I just watched one of his videos on rebuilding a Hurst Comp. Plus shifter and it was great and helped me do it. Thanks Paul!

    Tips on reamers:
    A straight flute reamer is called a machine reamer. A spiral flute reamer is a hand reamer.
    A machine reamer is intended to be used in a milling machine or drill press where the reamer is square to the machine's table. This is because a machine reamer has no lead-in.
    A hand reamer has a short section on the end that is undersize. This is to guide the reamer into the existing bore. If you are going to ream holes freehand, you should use a spiral flute reamer.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  Před 4 lety

      Sorry not true. There are many hand reamers that are straight flute. There are also many machine reamers that are spiral flute. You are also making an assumption that you can get any size as a hand reamer and that it has a spiral flute option. I prefer straight flute reamers. Grinding a lead in is no big deal. You have to know what you are doing .

    Ok,I am ready for Class, my first day. I went thru Votech Truck Diesel. We two guys per team and we rebuilt a semi-truck transmission. Well, y partner did all the work because I was going to school to get my GI Bill check every month and I had to be enrolled in a university accredited school. I cut way too many classes going over to my new girlfriend's house, and she woke up around 9 am. The class started at 7am we were in the shop by 8 am and I was in her bed by 8:30. Back at school by 10 am just in time for inside the classroom. O I'm not as sharp as I should be. Well at the time I couldn't tell you about RoadRanger transmissions. Well I can still do the Power comes in through the input shaft, to first gear on primary bla bla and it leaves thru the output shaft. But was on top of my game when it came to 18-year-old girls. lol. Ok back to class.

    Did I miss it? or did you forget to tell people to clean everything after filing the surfaces??

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  Před 4 lety +4

      I'm not going to waste time teaching shop basics. If you can't comprehend the importance of clean work and you would leave metal filings in a transmission case because you lack basic skills and need to be told to clean surfaces should you really be doing this type of work in the first place? It's like reading a recipe. Does one need to be told how to crack an egg?

    I thought iron mid plates and or iron cases were stronger than aluminum.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  Před 4 lety

      I make an iron midplate for the Muncie. Question is do you need overkill? For a normal driver a billet midplate is stronger and more accurate then the cast plate.

    • @joe-hp4nk
      @joe-hp4nk Před 4 lety

      @@GearBoxVideo Fair enough, I just remember that iron cases and mid plates didn't flex for a stronger transmission for racing.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  Před 4 lety

      As mentioned depends. Most of the time an iron midplate will girdle any flex

    Only issue..... when you have clean, ready to install parts laid out on the bench, DO NOT start filing on something right next to them!! Where are those shavings going? Pick up the case and file on it AWAY from the clean parts. Thats just me I guess.
