With the Pirates down 7-6 in the Bottom of the 8th inning of Game 7 of the 1960 World Series, with 2 outs, Hal Smith blasts a 3-run HR off the Yankees' Jim Coates to put the Bucs up 9-7 and only 3 outs away from the Championship. But the champagne would have to wait one more inning as the Yanks tied it in the top of the 9th, only to have Bill Mazeroski eclipse Hal Smith as the Game 7 hero. Like...

In remembrance of John Mahoney (1940-2018). The success of Frasier is not only due to its superb writing and intelligent humor, but developing the characters further by adding touches of serious drama, and also having actors with the talent to pull it off. From S1E19, "Give Him The Chair", this is among Mr. Mahoney's best monologues of the entire series.

I want the chair i was sitting in the night you called me and told me a had grandson. Im not even a father or a grandfather and i thought that was beautiful.
How could this be 52 years ago? It feels like maybe 5 or 6. I remember that season better than last season. The Mets shot out of the gate after the strike ended, and they looked stronger than the 1969 team. Adding Willie Mays, and then having him hit one out in his first game with the team, gave the Mets fans real hope that this team would run away with the NL East flag. Mays hit another homer a few days later. Alas, it turned out that the Pirates were actually a little better in 1972 than in their World Championship season the year before, and they started winning and winning, passing the field and running away with the division title.
How was this even recorded back then?
Apparently on 78 rpm disks. There’s a discussion elsewhere in the comments here regarding its authenticity, and it is authentic.
This 13 minutes has the power to shift a -3 to a +3
To me this is the scene that set Fraiser on the path to be one of the truly great sitcoms of all time.
Rest In Peace Willie Mays

Great video and the surprise was that we saw Willie hit this full-count home run. What a fantastic swing! I love the way he stepped into the swing with such power and athleticism. His playing weight was about 170 pounds, lighter than virtually any player today.
Thank you thank you Son
This is not a criticism on Red Barber, only an observation. Years ago I saw an interview with Red where he was asked how he called Jackie Robinson’s first game. He said that he treated Jackie like any other player. In the movie “42” Red was portrayed as describing Jackie’s first at bat by saying something along the lines of that he had a tan complexion. In this game (3 years later) he mentions Bankhead is the first negro (common term of the era and I don’t believe he meant it in a derogatory way) and Hank Thompson as the first negro player on the Giants. All that said, I am betting he described Jackie Robinson’s first game exactly the way he described Bankhead and Thompson. That’s just an interesting historical observation that I thought I would share.
I would think your assumption is correct, but as you state the term “negro” was common parlance in the day. That said, Barber has said and written about how, coming from the deep South, he did struggle with Jackie’s promotion, but ultimately he just treated him as a fellow man and as a ballplayer, and learned a great deal from the experience. Love your channel, by the way!

Hi, you can’t, see my description above. Can stream the entire soundtrack, however, on his web site linked above.

Me too being very lucky to have them in my life during the 80 s but I have been listening since the late 60 s + used to hitchhike !
Ahh, the great Venetia charity concert for Nancy’s Yogurt. I love Bird Song, but I adore Jerry’s 1st solo album, I play this album regularl still, since I got in 1974, the year I first saw the GD, I saw them so many times over the years. Bought tickets for shows in December 1968 & May 1973, both concerts were canceled, I final took the midnight flight to San Francisco and went for my 1st Dead concert in June 1974. Dead Head 4eavr.❤❤❤❤
Phil looks so cute in this video!
I remember watching this game. It was such a thrill to see Mays come over to the Mets, even though he had very little left. He almost hit three home runs in one game a few weeks later; he did hit one out and hit two other long flies that were caught.
Me too! ✌️😎
Amazing almost 100 years ago and you can still follow the game perfectly. Baseball is a timeless masterpiece.
"Ruth out with a charlie horse hits 3 home runs during batting practice". This a year before he retired. Leaves all the other sluggers fighting for second place.
Beautiful! love from a streetkid
Such a beautiful yet haunting melody.
Love your sound, and your message ❤
Str8 up magic!! I love these old recordings. And it's not about who is on the field, it's all about who is calling the game. 2024 Niagara falls USA. Sal maglie country.
Phil melts my brain , I don’t understand how he plays the bass , how does he choose his notes and his wild off time timing ,
He’ll yea!!!!
Folks.. Let's not forget the creativity of the writers who made this possible. The writers understood the characters and wrote to their strengths. Unlike other shows (Dynasty), the inclusion of new characters did not spoil the balance of the show but added additional layers. Betty White was powerhouse and sits at the top of the mountain top. To this day, I cannot see what was so great about 'Friends'. The writing was average and the actors pale in comparison to the MTM Show cast.
Their harmony on the verse is AMAZING. I always like Bob Jerry and phil

if i had to pick just one song , and one song only , it'd have to be this one, this recording, from this show in 1972, it sounds more ethereal each time i hear it, otherwordly , they have directly contacted her , rest in eternal peace Janis
MLB baseball has a history like no other sport. The Greatest game that ever came to be! May it remain in the American sports experience forever.
There aint no Dead like 72 Dead
Such an amazing cast, crew, and writers! They proved a spin-off can be successful!
I think why Sue Ann and Ted are my favorite characters is because both made two what should be totally unlikable characters not only funny but lovable. Betty and Ted were masterful actors as were the rest of the MTM cast
LOL, Ted walked that bum to the door without issue.😊😊
