My guess is the Rhodesians, knowing they couldn't take on the entire camp in their underequipped state, but knowing they could scare them away, opted to purposefully leak to ZAPU that they were going to attack CGT, but only CGT and opted to leave out the attack on the other two bases to lure those bases into a false sense of security. Allowing them to kill tens of hundreds in the bases that weren't warned, whilst looting the largest base for all they could get their hands on. Obviously that does raise the question of why they wouldn't make this fact known to the pilots and the RLI who were sent to CGT, and I would be interested if anyone knows any more on this line of questioning. But, in the end, they managed to destroy 2 bases and loot a 3rd base as well, and perhaps simply looting CGT was privately their only intent given their equipment shortages.

At the time ZANLA was an insurgency group. Not a formally constituted army. Part of the Selous Scout's tactics was to be pretend insurgents. Even when they went into Mozambique at times they were usually dressed as insurgents. They also had strict orders not to tangle with Frelimo unless the later interfered in their operations. And yes sometimes they dressed like Frelimo because Frelimo provided military aid to ZANLA. This was done to get close in to ZANLA and to strike effectively using subterfuge and surprise.

Interesting, but I think I must still a little defend tsar Peter III. Yes he admired Prussia and king Friedrich, and many Russain militaries were against him making peace with Prussia, but he actually began a work of socially reforming Russia. He DID have some ambitions to improve in the country. There is an interesting video here on CZcams named "Peter III the slandered emperor". There is also mentioned about possible reasons for not annexing Königsberg to Russia. Also - even if Russia had had successes on the battlefields - one might say that Peter III leaving the alliance against Prussia may have saved a number of Russian lives, because Prussia was not yet fully beaten. Continued fighting would have probably have taken more lives. Also, when Peter III was deposed and murdered 1762 the new regime under Katarina II did not think it worth to resume to hostillities against Prussia.
