It was with great frustration when we heard of this Viscount being downed, as we were patrolling in the area where the plane came down.
A couple of days before this happened, we had a contact and captured a terrorist, he was choppered back to one of the field hospitals', for interrogation and we heard no more. Strangely, we were transferred to the other end of the country, to do a non-entity operation.

Except for your pronunciation of a few names, this is a very good summation of an incredible feat by Rhodesia.
South Africa learned a lot from Rhodesian operations and even covertly participated in one form or another in these operations.

      @robert-trading-as-Bob69 Před rokem +1

@AnecdotesofHistory Everyone butchers someone else's names.. I am no different from you, to be honest.
I mistakenly used an Afrikaans pronunciation of SA for the Sturmabteilung, saying ess-ah instead of ess-ay.
I confused the heck out of my history teacher... she started calling them SA/SR because of me.

@frogfinance4605 Two pariah states struggling to keep their heads above the water... little brother loses out every time.
You're talking about politicians who would do anything to stay in power.
You are also comparing two different ideologies, and the Afrikaaner remembered the Jameson Raid and the support Britain got from Rhodesia during the Boer War.
My family descended from a Scotsman who came to SA in 1820, married a Boer woman and eventually our family became wholly Afrikaans. Until my grandfather married a Scot woman, so our branch of the family became English-speaking South Africans again.
The Afrikaans side never forgave this. I met the same attitude during my National Service.
It did not matter that my family fought the English, or that there are women and children of my direct family are buried at Irene Concentration Camp. No, what mattered to them is that I spoke English at home.
So is there any wonder why the National Party thought of its own selfish needs before Rhodesia's needs?
I went to boarding school in Northern Transvaal with a lot of Rhodesian kids in the 70s and 1980. I lost contact with them after leaving that school in 1981, but many of them didn't finish the 1980 school term anyway.
It was only when I was older that I realized most of my friends had emigrated and lost everything.
I still think of them now.

      Hi John,
Your criticism suggests you watched it very closely (which I hope means you enjoyed it). To answer your question, I made the DC3 and Canberra models myself on photoshop and mixed them up in editing. These videos involve thousands of 'moving parts' meaning that I am bound to make a few mistakes. While I catch most of them in my revision phase, the Dakota model simply slipped through the cracks. I hope that answers your question. - William

Mukushi camp was primarily female ZIPRA trainees. You had asked "why weren't these camps evacuated if Nkomo knew an attack was imminent"? Perhaps it was in the best interest of Zipra to have these camps hit, with the female trainees taking massive casualties, that way they could cry to the international press about "Rhodesians deliberately killing women and children". this has always been a tactic of the Marxists, to put non combatants in harms way in order to discredit the enemy. (although in the case of Mukushi, the women were being trained as Zipra combatants), therefore they were a legit target for Rhodesia.
