The Second Miracle of the House of Brandenburg (why Frederick was Great)

- In December 1761, Frederick the Great was surrounded and outnumbered by Russian, Austrian, and French armies. Five years into what would become the Seven Years’ War, the Prussian state was exhausted and Frederick’s defeat seemed inevitable. Although Frederick had won a series of stunning victories against his numerically superior adversaries, it was never enough to counter the overwhelming superiority in manpower and resources enjoyed by his adversaries: only a miracle could prevent Prussia’s demise. Five days into the new year, 1762, that miracle came with the death of Empress Elizabeth of Russia. Elizabeth’s successor, Peter III, would reverse her war policy, allying with Prussia against Austria. The stunning reversal provided Frederick with the opportunity to force Austria to enter peace negotiations, finally ending the war. Henceforth, this great deus ex machina in the story of Frederick would become celebrated as the Second Miracle of the House of Brandenburg.

I LOVE YOUR VIDS 💕
I am working on a video about Frankish pirates during the Crisis of the Third Century. I have the rough draft of the script finished and should have the video out in 1-2 weeks!
You have done a lot more research then you needed and it turned out perfectly
This looks like something a million subscriber channel would make. Really high quality, you're going to blow up soon
I watched the video because I learned about this miracle at school and wanted to refresh my memory. Good video and
nice classical music, too. I subscribed. Actually, you could that the treaty of peace and friendship was signed on 15 March, Peter III died on 9th July. "Peter is in a league of his own" made me laugh.
Subbed, would prefer it the background music was a bit lower when you are talking. Maybe that’s just me. Good vid!
Thank you for the sub! The audio in general should be improved next video 👍.
@@AnecdotesofHistory great looking forward to more!

Giving up on that strategic territory was going to bite Russia in more than just that war.
Saw the video via an ad, very interested to see what you post next :)
Best regards,

Great video. Subbed!
This was amazing thank you for this i love prussia! this has to be my favorite story in history
That is really heartwarming to hear! If you are interested in rlearning more, I put two book recommendations in the description. If you want to learn more about the miracle, in particular, I would recommend David Fraser's work. You can find it for free online or on in print on Amazon!
So glad that Prussian glory was maintained
Why?
"Prussian glory"
You mean starting 3 wars just to unite a nation? If you need hundreds of thousands of people to die just so your nation can unite politically, then it's nowhere near glorious.
Fantastic!
Hey man, this is a great video.
Glad you liked it!
Great video sir... :)
MAKE MORE VIDEOS! I saw your ad and now I am your 43:rd subscriber
Have the script, audio, and visuals completed for my next video. I am currently working on animation!
Interesting, but I think I must still a little defend tsar Peter III. Yes he admired Prussia and king Friedrich, and many Russain militaries were against him making peace with Prussia, but he actually began a work of socially reforming Russia. He DID have some ambitions to improve in the country. There is an interesting video here on CZcams named "Peter III the slandered emperor". There is also mentioned about possible reasons for not annexing Königsberg to Russia. Also - even if Russia had had successes on the battlefields - one might say that Peter III leaving the alliance against Prussia may have saved a number of Russian lives, because Prussia was not yet fully beaten. Continued fighting would have probably have taken more lives. Also, when Peter III was deposed and murdered 1762 the new regime under Katarina II did not think it worth to resume to hostillities against Prussia.
good shit
Thank you!
Napoleon doesn’t need to be referred to as the great he’s got an entire era named after him.
This is a good ass video
good intro and outro
I have heard from an experienced content creators that my first minute is a little slow. Thoughts?
one of the greatest and smartest man to ever live!
Good channel, I would recommend a better mic though
Hey Kang, I had a 20 dollar Amazon mic when making this video. I have since purchased a Blue Yeti. My next video should sound a lot better!
@@AnecdotesofHistory nice upgrade, hope to see the channel grow in the future!
Then pray tell, what was the *First* Miracle of the House of Brandenburg?
The first Miracle of the House of Brandenburg occurred after the Prussian loss at Kunersdorf. The combined Austro Russian forces had a window of opportunity to attack Berlin at something approaching 3:1 odds. However they decided not to risk overextending their depleted and exhausted armies. I chose not to cover it directly as I felt that it would detract from the focus of the video. If you are interested in the raw details of Fredericks campaigns I have recommended readings in the comments.
Interesting video, but you need to speed up a a bit, and too many long pauses at awkward places.
"Luck will not help you always."
- Joseph Stalin in 1945
Allegedly when FDR died Hitler thought the miracle would repeat itself. Thanks for the comment!
@@AnecdotesofHistory but that wouldn't have stopped the Russians.
😊👏🇬🇧SUPERB...Give him a sub,it's Christmas..
Grade A content!

How are you so smart
Pivotal
So Königsberg I mean Kaliningrad now finally belongs to the state it should've over 2 centuries ago
From a certain perspective!
Julius Caesar was more then great. He was... Unrivaled
I will also say that the miracle wasn't the Empresses death, but Fredrick's ability to turn that one little itty bitty little chink in the armor... Into one of the most incredible reversals of fortune ever recorded. That's why he was great
