A Scottish Border Wild Camp inspired by the Northumbrian beer "Black Hag"
The Cheviot Brewery does a rich oatmeal stout called "Black Hag" after a remote summit on the Scottish/ Northumbrian border.
What better place could there be to enjoy beer than the place it was named after?
I couldn't find an easy route up and by the time we got to Black Nag itself, we felt we were well deserving of the beer
Accompanied by Adrian and Shaun Mac
@northumberlandmountainhopper
@macinthewild8116
It turned out to be a wonderful night, one of the very best I have spent in the Cheviot Hills with an astonishing sunset and a night sky sprinked with a smattering of stars. A rare dry and wind free night without a single midge- heaven indeed.

Wild camping on the edge of England in the Gram Counter Gear VLT tent | Scottish Borders

I've been meaning to explore this area for a while, It's relatively untravelled and studying the map there looked to be some interesting crags, waterfalls and unnamed structures littering this moor on the very edge of England. It looked a great place for wild camping My companion in explorating for the night was @northumberlandmountainhopper who was trying out a new tarp configuration. 00:00 Bi...

One visit can never be enough and I will keep coming back to this area, rich in history, where the ancient past seems closer to the present than normal. Hello. I'm wondering how was the tent? Are you satisfied with it? How do you think, is it ok for a 192 cm tall person? Sorry for so many questions, but there is almost no information about this tent in youtube)

    • @grahamswildcamping
      @grahamswildcamping Před dnem

      Hi, I'm satisfied with the tent and it performed as expected (there was a slick of condensation ob the inside( It provides a reasonable amount of room for it's weight but it will always attract condensation, so if on a multi-night trip you'd have to find a way to dry it off during the day. It was ok for me at 5'6" because I could easily avoid touching the sides but at 192cm that would be more problematic for you. Hope this helps a bit with your decision!

    Nice one Graham - I've seen many people pitch up there recently, but you're the first that recorded any video from hiking further up the valley. Myself and Llama Annie camped there last August, windy as owt that night, & I've been meaning to check out similar things that you'd circled on your map past the cairn - so cheers for that, it's saved me a hike - and by the looks of it a pretty boggy wet-footed hike. Loved the dad joke, and wise to head back to the cairn to pitch up, it's a fabulous looking structure and nice to be able to get out of the winds a tad if they're blowing. Let's hope this area doesn't get as over camped as the 'secret crags' do. TFS and atb from DVS :) P.S not sure of that tent mind lol - I have a single skin tent, a Naturehike Taga2, I still use it, but not very often due to condensation issues. I'd rather carry a few hundred extra grammes for a double skinned zippy tent 😁🏕

      Thanks Donna, I like the quirky little nature of the tent but I reckon I’ll only use it in certain specific conditions, like you, I’d rather carry a slightly heavier separate fly and inner. I’ve a feeling it won’t get over camped, I hope not anyway. Exploring new areas is one of the highlights of camping for me, to spend ages looking at maps and what might be ruins or a bothy then go out and actually see what’s there- mint! That’s part of what makes your videos so interesting, all that exploring with Sami. ATB Donna and hope to maybe bump into you sometime in them hills 👍

A cup of charcoal will do one thick chop.you can either snuff the unused coals or finish off with hot water for coffee. People are just not interested in my invention.but I try to advertise it .khantal wire. Or nichrome. The fire starts at the bottom. I make khantal wire net to hold the charcoal and the resulting dry heat flow reduces flare ups.plus its more economic with charcoal czcams.com/users/shortsg_m2LNOg5zA?feature=shared

    Greay video mate, always good to see different parts of the UK featuring on YT. The Lake's and Snowdonia are great, but we all know that. Gained a new sub from me 👍🏼. ATB, Mike.

    I don't see the point of these 'boxes,' other than a good way to shift old / unsold stock. How many of those items did you actually need? Honest answer = Probably none, and now you're a hundred quid lighter. It's just gambling, but you can never win.

    • @grahamswildcamping

      It's certainly a gamble. You're right - I don't need much these days but a new knife is always welcome, ATB, Graham

      The knife seems ok, its a nice scandi grind with a reasonable 1095 high carbon steel. The viking theme seems a bit cheesy but to be honest I kinda like that 😂ATB, Graham

      @grahamswildcamping I was slightly worried for you when the cord storage thing popped up. A decent knife won't give you much change from £100🙂

    Well ,I think you did ok for £100 , I have no experience with the axe you got or any axe that size but it would be good to see what you can do with it in a new vid .I had no idea they made cord winders I have been making my own for years rather like the ones we used in fishing when I was a kid "float winders " we called them everything ready on shortish line ready to attach when you got to the river bank . Everyone loves paracord so no worries on that score you can't have too much ,nor too many water sterilizing tablets either and as for the knife well I love it I have a number of Condor knives and while I am not a fan of every single design, they do make superb practical blades and damn fine sheaths to go with them as you just found out and I hope you enjoy using it .Great vid nice to see you I just found you today so I look forward to more of your work .

      Thanks, got to admit, the cord spool had me baffled until I looked it up but I think I'll get some use out of it now. Nice to hear you've got a few condor knives and you find them reasonable. I do like the knife I got with the box and I'll try and use that axe for a bit of food prep on my next video. Thanks for your kind words and ATB, Graham 👍👍
