Anybody knows how to connect to home assistant without an apple device? It's a wifi device, do I still need an aqara hub?

Apple is shit, HomeKit is also shit. Better use the Home assistant, with current updates it is easier to use and for use with a a phone you could drop some fast actions to Google home app /HomeKit or use Home assistant app, maybe even tuya. And one more thing..... expensive??? talking like that being an apple fan boy, it is true that there is a lot of presence sensors which are cheaper but not always include all the possibilities, and integration with HomeKit is at the bottom of wanted features for me.

Dude this review sucks. 1. I have these. They are total battery hogs, which you would have reported if you took the time to properly test them. 2. The magnet is for the included wall mount, not to put on fridge. 3. Most people use multiple models to monitor their kids rooms. You wouldn’t know that because you are a virgin. Just kidding.

Thanks for the honest review - wish I had seen this sooner. I found that this by far the most frustrating device I have used in years - a complete and utter P.O.S. I have the latest firmware and I am using it the Homekit, All I want it to do is turn on the kitchen lights when someone is in the kitchen & turn them off when no one is there... Alas it iappears to be incapable. The UI is dreadful, I cannot find a straight forward way of removing a zone (I stupidly created 2 zones and after using it feel It may work better with one) It detects multiple people, even when there are is only me there, Automations with HomeHit are hit & miss and only seem to work 30% of the time I regulary have to tell it there is no one there via the "AI learning" I regularly have to re-test the automation for it to work the next time.

My boys are 14 and 16. All of their friends have phones. We don't believe children need phones because they are quite addictive. The Ultra Watch series sounds like a better product, but it would require my wife to have an iPhone to access the location tracking features since she's the main person responsible for the kids' whereabouts.

Hey Brad, I don’t mean to hijack this comment section about a different camera, but is there an aqara or other brand you would recommend for outdoor Canadian winters? Preferably HK compatible, but something that is wired or uses a wall wort for power. Thanks a bunch.

Plenty of alarm systems have door (and window sensors) you don't need this to know if your door is closed. The issue with most of these "smart-locks" are that they are decent at one thing and bad at another, so often the lock is bad or the construction or the electronics. So what about scanning, burglers cloning the signal? What about lockpicking resistance? what about some background checking? As people are already complainging on fora that the lock has failed? with fingerprint reading not working or the batteries lasting only 2 montsh. The previous version of this lock was picked appart by the lockpickinglawyer in about 5 seconds flat, have those issues been adressed? A smart lock like this is a needless gimmick when the rest of the door can be easily bypassed. A thin pane of glass, no reinforcements in the doorframe and only 1 bolt to lock the door so you only need to put pressure on 1 point of the door to kick it open. All those expencive gadgets are held together with that 1 bolt? Why not get a door with multiple locking points (or what ever those are called where you live), you can lock the door with 1 keyhole but 1 bolt and 2 hooks will come from the door into the door frame (wich should be metal or reinforced with metal)

I like the small profile of the lock. However, it would take a major amount of fascination to change the family from our Aqara U100. They love it.

I use Meross. Cheap, easy to use and they work reliably.

Bought this camera from Apple Store. Apple refers you to manufacturer since it isn’t an Apple product. I have had many disconnects from network that could only be resolved by power cycling the device. At least Eve cam does send an alert when camera is unresponsive, which leaves me scratching my head. I installed a Wemo receptacle ahead of the device and now I can restart my camera when it goes off line without having to throw circuit breaker. Eve provided a few suggestions regarding my router and after making sure settings were correct I still will get the camera unresponsive alerts. I asked for an exchange, I was asked for invoice which I provided and was told they don’t provide replacements, contact Apple.

What about Homebridge/HomeAssistant integration?

Would the hunter express fans work with, lets say a Lutron fan/light control system or not? The fan i got is model 52758. It's DC powered but its also part of their hunter express lineup which comes with a pretty easy wiring system and is controlled via remote. I wasn't sure about this so I called Hunter. The rep said that my fan could not be controlled by anything other than the remote. I really want to hook it up to the wall switch and control it that way. I'm hoping that that rep didnt know what they're talking about.

Brad! Damn! You are looking great! I’m totally ok with this not having an AQ sensor on it as they are usually biased readings from being so close to the filter. I use separate sensors for purifiers and HVAC systems. And yeah, this guy costs a lot given the small room size coverage.

You could also get the humidity sensor from the HomePod to trigger the fan to turn on if you didn’t have that other sensor but I know the sensor isn’t going to be as good as a dedicated sensor

I had a contractor install this outdoor camera about two years ago. Recently my WIFI network changed and I had to reset all wireless devices to the new network. This meant I had to reinstall the Eve outdoor camera. The original packaging was long gone. Eve told me the QR code would be on the mounting plate. So I took the device apart to find it. It was not there, or anywhere else. Eve told me, and I quote, “you need to replace the device.” I am flabbergasted. Eve neglects to put the QR code on the secondary location, makes it therefore impossible for me to reinstall the device, and expects me to buy another one. I’m am done with this company. I just wish the camera were heavier so I could at least use it as a boat anchor. (I really wanted to like these guys. I even previously overlooked the fact that neither of the 2 motion detectors I bought from them worked reliably either.

great video.. any way to control the old traditional fans that come with a separate regulator? i'm from India, so not sure if the wiring is gonna be the same and would work for any smart fan switches that could control fan speed

Quality review! This is number 1 on my list for a robot vacuum for pet hair and mopping.

Luckily I haven't had to rebuild our smart home completely, but you could say that I almost completely had to do so at one point. Back in December, homebridge took a shit, I use homebridge for like 90% of our smart home accessories because almost none of them are directly compatible with Apple home. There is a lot of accessories. Well, back in December, I literally changed one word in the JSON file, and all of my Homebridge accessories went no response. I couldn't figure out what the problem was and couldn't fix it by cycling through various different JSON file backups, so I nuked homebridge and started again. Without a backup. I actually reset my Mac that I was running homebridge on because for some reason I couldn't install any plug-ins. That was an NPM error, and almost certainly did not require a reset of my Mac, but doing so was great because there was a lot of leftover files and clutter from applications I installed previously. I had to rebuild all of the automations from those devices, and that was extremely annoying!

Is this a feature that used to be available but no longer available on Apple Home? We tried following your instructions to add the scenes on Apple Home, but we are unable to add our Light Strip. On the Nanoleaf app, it says that Group Scenes are not available for Matter devices.

This video was really helpful. I’m in the US and my daughter is 9. Like you I don’t think that she’s ready for a phone but wanted some way for her to stay in touch when she’s away. I also wish that there was an app on the iPad for her to do certain things with her watch. Thanks for sharing

Great video Brad. I'm so sorry you spent hundreds of hours on this - hopefully Apple now realises it needs to invest more into HomeKiit. Do you think it's best to connect all hubs & bridges on the 2.4Ghz frequency? And can you access these if your phone is on the 5Ghz frequency?

I’m having almost the same exact issue currently. Only difference is I can add matter devices but the all it says is “No Response” did all the same steps and test as you and on a test home it works. Now i’m just procrastinating, deleting my primary home and creating a new one. It’s sad and sucks to have to do it. Done it 3 times throughout the lifespan of Apple HomeKit. It’s just been awhile and I have double the amount of accessories that I did the last time I did it. Wish me luck! Haha
