    Couple of things. After you finish installing the ceiling fan, set the fan speed to the highest seeing using the pull chain and having the fan control switch set to the highest setting. Then remove the lower section of the pull chain so people don't accidentally try to adjust the fan speed using the chain. Also, whenever I install a ceiling fan, I out everything together on the ground. The only thing I don't do is put the light globes and the light bulbs in. Then hang the fan using onto the mounting bracket. Then you can easily wire the fan up. Be sure to push the wire nuts up inside the electrical box in the ceiling to meet electrical code.

    One of the best TBL videos in a while. I loved the mounting frustration, shooting at your daughter’s make up desk, and the very real approach when needing to buy outside of Canada.
    I have 5 ceiling fans where a mixture of approaches were used as well. One light/fan is in the office where I installed a professional level HVAC unit and just don’t need or use this fan or light (I have recessed lights with Phillips Hue bulbs). The family room has a fan with no lights and we successfully switched this to a Lutron fan switch. Both bedrooms for my boys had DC light/fan combos. My contractor got these moved to a Lutron setup (separate light and fan switches) and they work great. Master bedroom is where we must have had an AC fan as the contractor tried like 15 approaches before I bought a Hunter Simple Connect light/fan combo. I have the fan directly connected but may eventually switch this to a Lutron switch. I am also a big “fan” of their fans inside of my Apple Home.

      Thanks Dr. Cole, glad to hear you are a “fan” a smart fans lol. They are so nice to have around. Appreciate your support as always. This was a fun video to shoot and glad a little bit of a different approach worked out.

      For shame to me! Edited my comment to say ordering out of Canada vs. the US. With my best friend hailing from Canada, I know the faux pas of treating Canada as just another state, though I just typed it wrong in this instance. 🫢

    Bottom line: We yet to have a Smart Fan Switch that has no issues overall. Come’on Lutron!

    2:48 Aqara makes a smart one as well and Shane actually did a good video on a solution for those with only a single wire going to the fixture using Aqara’s T2 smart relay module. Doesn’t give you fan speed control or light dimming but at least gets both individually controllable in HomeKit.

    I put three Hunter Simple Connect fans in my house. Two are on the same circuit so I need to have one moved. So my next step is to get one put on another circuit. I’m glad your Simple Connect fan is reliable TBL. I wasn’t sure how reliable they are in HomeKit. I just use the remotes but look forward to getting these in HomeKit. Great video and appreciate the information.

    Living in Canada, I really appreciate how you also mention that sometimes you just have to import from the US. I have a fan in our reading room that is live wired and is only controlled by the pull chains. I would love to replace it with a smart fan that is in homekit. Thanks!

    8:33 this is the part of Hunter’s Simple Connect fan that made me give up on the Hue bulbs in my Aerodyne… I even tried an automation to turn the Hunter smart light back on if turned off and that only seemed to frustrate my spouse more as the Hue bulbs would turn back on with the Hunter smart light 🙄 so back to dumb bulbs we go and are using the Wemo stage controller over thread to control the over light, lamps, and fan which has been solid so far. But finding dumb bulbs that dim nicely in the Hunter fan has not been easy.

    I have a fan with a chain, and I am pinning my hopes on the Jasco/GE/Embrighten/Honeywell/UltraPro Zwave 3 speed wall switch. Wish me luck.

    Good stuff, Brad. I prefer dumb fans and Lutron fan controllers, but I do have one smart fan/light come with a single wired switch that I didn't want to hire someone to add another line so I've covered up the one wired switch with two Lutron Pico remotes to control the light and fan separately via Homebridge. By the way, if you didn't know, they make these Philips Hue Dimmer wall plates on Etsy that incorporate both the Hue dimmer and a paddle or toggle switch, so it looks seamless. You can also add the Lutron Aurora in a paddle or toggle location.

    Hunter makes a wall control for the simple connect fan/lights. You can’t reverse the fan direction with the Lutron wall control.

      I own 4 Hunter Symphony fans (4-speed fan and dimmable light exposed in HomeKit) and have 4 Hunter Universal Wall Controls

      @morells09 Před 3 měsíci

      Ya but it’s basically useless because the power button actually cuts power to the smart fan instead of just turning the light and fan off in the Hunter app… not very intuitive imo

    I’m surprised you didn’t mention anything about the Lutron Fan Control having LEDs that you can’t turn off. Super annoying at night to see the green LEDs.

    great video.. any way to control the old traditional fans that come with a separate regulator? i'm from India, so not sure if the wiring is gonna be the same and would work for any smart fan switches that could control fan speed

  • @ArmedFerrett
    @ArmedFerrett Před 3 měsíci +1

    I don't understand. Why would you need to have an Lutron Aurora smart button and a Phillips Dimmer remote?

    • @TheBradLloyd
      @TheBradLloyd  Před 3 měsíci

      You don’t! Total overkill but the Aurora prevents the switch from being turned off with the added convenience of controlling the lights. The Hue switches provides additional flexibility like activating Hue and Apple Home scenes. You don’t need both though.

    Would the hunter express fans work with, lets say a Lutron fan/light control system or not? The fan i got is model 52758. It's DC powered but its also part of their hunter express lineup which comes with a pretty easy wiring system and is controlled via remote. I wasn't sure about this so I called Hunter. The rep said that my fan could not be controlled by anything other than the remote. I really want to hook it up to the wall switch and control it that way. I'm hoping that that rep didnt know what they're talking about.

    U didn’t mention one more way to do this, with 2 relay switches you can make a dumb fan smart with individual control of fan and light. You do lose control of dimming and fan control but if u don’t want to over spend is a great option.
