    I honestly think that the topic pros and cons mixing on headphones is outdated and ridiculous when so many people are mixing on headphones these days people that have serious monitoring and still mix on headphones let's move on from this topic and go straight to the product couse we all know you have to learn a medium to rely on and it takes time like it does for everything else the only difference between the two mediums is the stereo perception and once you get past that becomes just another reference tool

    I prefer the way, first to hear euch Guitar unfiltered. And the I look for prefer Frequency, go through the Band with a parametric EQ +6db. Looking for 2-3 good frequency Area. Then I first create the Bass guitar. And put all other Frequencies down, which I haven’t prefer. Then I look for guitars who in the same frequency Area. And decide in which frequency Area I want to work. Then I only look for example only the two guitars and locking for harmonica this pair. And so I configure further. After it I can make the sound clearly with compressor.

    Hi Sara...Just found you ! Excellent info and gave me some things to consider....Thanks! I've got my writing partner's piano arrangement with some synth, harp, etc. on the same track, which I arranged around (GarageBand) I have a vocal solo track & about 10 children's vocal tracks, along with about 10 orchestra instruments, strings, etc. My first time arranging all of this and want the largeness of the bridge where the orchestra comes in but want to keep my piano track to not be covered, but not overloading on the gain...I EQ'd each instrument last night and really brought out the bass/bigger sound...now I want to make the piano arrangement is prominent. 🙄 Newbie***

    You got lucky with the snare fundamental. I looked at it and it's at 184 Hz or so. That's a little lower than I usually experience with a snare, typically in the 200-220 range. While the 180 Hz setting on this plug-in would still be the go-to for this range, it wouldn't be ideal. With that said, with such good graphic, precision parametric EQs available in these modern times, why would one unnecessarily cripple the effort with a 40-50 year old, decidedly less precision, less visuals, less intuitive tool? I know you claim that it makes the job easier BECAUSE OF the crude nature and fewer available controls. I just don't find that to be the case in my own experience. However, thank you for the detailed look at how to EQ a snare. Your presentation was outstanding.

    Great review, Sara. But in fact I wouldn't call 350€ "cheap" or budget ;-) . It is quiet a lot of money for just headphones, in my personal opinion. I use AKG headphones for decades, and this are "cheap" ones..... compared to these Verums they are really budget. In the end I can use them confidently, cause I know them for so long. No need for software correction or something like that. I believe your brain is the best "room corrector" you could ever get... but you have to train it 🙂

    I like to know if this video can help to anyone. Especially for newbies! How are they supposed to hear the compressor at GR 1-2dB??? I remember that about 20 years ago in the beginning I didn't hear what the compressor was doing at all. I put it on the tracks as I saw it with my colleagues or fished out some preset. I definitely needed a much more brutal GR to understand how to set the compression.

  • @MotoGreciaMarios
    @MotoGreciaMarios Pƙed měsĂcem

    There has to be a time when frequency response by itself be considered inadequate information for the assessment of the quality of a sound reproduction system. Waterfall graphs, and transient response are also VERY important because they show how the vibrating part of the device is able to handle its own vibration. If it can not then this means that it produces sound AFTER the signal actually has stopped "ordering" it - the result can be flabby reproduction of sound and loss of clarity and all this while the ferquency response could be absolutely flat. Bass frequencies are harder to manage because they require very large movements and these are the ones that are hard to control. It's like a car's suspension - the large bumps are the ones that create the "floating" feeling while driving, in inadequately suspended cars. Frequency response would be enough if music was only constant frequencies playing at a fairnly constant volume throughout - but music is a widely dynamic projection of waves with varying frequencies AND dynamics. Given the very light construction of the membrane in planar magnetic headphones, in theory they should be very promising in this regard.

    Hey Sara, thank you for this review. Ah ah!Yes these headphones look gigantic on you and show you mean business :-). As for the sound quality I couldn't agree more, no compromise there. I have had Verum 1 for a couple years now and mix on them on an almost daily basis on top of my monitors. What I really like about them other than their pristine sound quality is the sense of space and depth they give you which is quite rare for headphones. They are good to place instruments in the stereo field. I like to combine them with the Ultrasone Pro 900 to check different aspect of the mix (harshness/bottom end). One thing people need to be aware though when purchasing them is that they must not be in a hurry, expect several months you receive them. Also I had some issues with the stereo cable which was not as sturdy as it could be, Igor sent me a replacement one but same issue again so just purchased one and everything good now. I know the Verum 2 kickstarter was very successful and that doesn't surprise me. I enjoy your channel.

      Doing a headphone check during mixing is standard procedure for any mix engineer. It's the same reason engineers have cubes, NS10s, a mono speaker, among other monitoring devices. To ensure your mix sounds great on any source and to avoid any problems, especially phase which headphones really help to find. If you're only using one set of monitors and not utilizing headphones at all, you're leaving a lot on the table in terms of ensuring you have a great mix that translates. Lastly, there are countless highly successful mix engineers that only mix on headphones. In short, mixing on headphones vs monitors doesn't matter as long as you trust the reference because it translates.
