Yeah, but why "Quiet RC"?
I'm just trying to keep this under control... but if it gets out of control, I don't need everyone to know about it.

Here's his letter:
Dear PROJECT959 Owner,
I wanted to add this note to your kit as an expression of gratitude for joining me on this exhilarating journey of crafting 100 kits of the legendary desert racer.
What began as a personal endeavour swiftly evolved into a daring vision, one that now lays before you in this very box. My aim was never to merely replicate one of the most iconic
'80s R/C kits; rather, it was to bring to life a childhood dream inspired by the sight of the 959 tearing through the desert, a dream once confined to the walls of a bedroom poster.
The pivotal moment arrived in early 2024 when I encountered the real car, Car 185, the very machine that ignited countless aspirations.
As you read these words, know that this dream transcends my own, it's shared, and I am immensely proud to have you as a fellow dreamer.
Every second of time and energy poured into assembling this kit has been infused with passion and shaped by the technology i longed for during my formative years.
Over the past year, this project has become intertwined with my life, evolving through design iterations and meticulous adjustments until it mirrored my vision.
Nearly every component has been crafted by my hands, packaged with care, and presented in this box, meticulously designed and personally assembled, just for you.
Should you feel inclined to further enrich this kit, to infuse it with more intricacies and personal dreams, I wholeheartedly encourage you to do so. Let it transport you back in time, savour each moment as you build it to your exact specifications. Whether proudly displayed, taken for a spin, or immortalised on a shelf at home, may this creation spark stories both remembered and newly forged.
Above all, relish in the joy it brings. It's not just a model; it's a vessel for dreams realised and adventures yet to unfold.
Warm regards,
Rob

ep013 Blockhead Motors Hotshot II Build
This was a very well put together tutorial. I’ve honestly always dreaded the painting part of the hobby. I simply am not very good at it. However, after watching what you just put together here, I am confident I can up my game significantly. There was a lot I was doing wrong, or simply didn’t even know. It’s funny, I am a luthier and woodworker, professionally, (amongst other fine skills…like being a watchmaker) and for some reason this particular skill has eluded me. I thrive on the minutiae. I just need to know what that is in this case, and now I do. Is it correct that you are up in Indy? I am down in Bloomington. I’d love to pick your brain sometime about good places to drive…that’s probably better for a direct message though rather than a public message board on a you tube channel. Anyway, thanks for making stuff like this. Makes me being a middle aged man that likes to STILL play with toys feel a lot better about it. Or, as one of my friends has once told me, they’re not toys, but, REFINED, HIGHLY ENGINEERED RACE CARS. Kits are the best for the hobby in my opinion.
That was very impressive and all you did was unbox it lol
For the speed run stuff basic lights are handy so you can tell which way the car is pointing way off in the distance especially in case it spins out or flips and rights itself.
I can’t wait for the build of this kit - any updates? 👍
I started building it just a couple days ago. However, ran into a glitch with one of the parts. Ruben has already sent me a replacement. So, hoping to get back to it ASAP.
Very nice unboxing video. It’s obvious that a lot of heart went into making this bespoke kit. 👏👏👏🙌
It really is!
This is an incredible kit. Rob M. has shown some amazing work on the posts he leaves online. This is far better than I expected. Your video did a great job showing the effort Rob has put into this project. Thank you for the great video.
I need to make sure I do it justice
The ta02 and ta02t trucks are my favorite. I own the whole collection of them 😊
That’s amazing! The Toyota one looks awesome. Stay tuned… got another one coming up.
@quietrc there is 5 of them. The s10,prerunner,f150,desert fielder, and the re release of the f150
Looks so good! Thanks I learned some stuff Is it a good idea to clean coat the car after the stickers are on?
No, you absolutely do not need to or want to do that. Also, there is no gloss clear coat that exists for polycarbonate.
The detail is amazing isn't it?
Yes!
I like the liquid mask idea. If not using liquid mask how do you feel about using flat clear to seal masking tape lines before spraying the first color on the car. My understanding is it seals the tapes edges and if it did bleed it cannot be seen.
Yes! You can do that. It only needs a very light coat to achieve it. I’ve used this method before.
Hi Rob, I’m currently building one on the bench. Looking into several improvement hop ups straight off the bat. Just wanna add, I’ve been enjoying your channel and all your contents ever since discovering it. Keep it up and I look forward to more. Thx!!! 🙏🏻
Thank you!
Last I'm glad I'm subscribed
My buddy had an original and his servo was definitely taped down too. I remember only because his servo would move around on the chassis
Yeah, I don’t understand why they went away from a properly mounted servo to tape. Weird.
😮😮😮amazing truck 😮 Thanks for sharing 😊😊
Just picked up one off eBay. I’ve only built and painted 3 kits to date (Tyrell P34, ‘73 Porsche 911 RSR, and a BBX). Now you’ve spooked me on building this until I’ve practiced on more kits…need not to muff this one up b
There are some tricky bits, but great fun to build. I say go for it!
Awesome build and tips. Yeah, XRAY spare parts are expensive, but usually, they are strong. 1/12 scale is so sick, so light and fast, even with 1S 😮
I’m pretty rough on the cars and this one has held up pretty well overall.
Last Thank you for saying my fault and not my bad when you made a mistake Did your shoes come in two different colors Do you guys race for money, bragging rights, or a trophy
Two different lace colors. Bragging rights and a sticker that says what place you got.
I wish you would do a dedicated video on this. Only for personal reasons though. When I was young I remember reading about this exact kit in what was probably radio control car action. I recall trying to get my folks to take me to a hobby shop so I could see one of these in person and with any luck, they’d get it for me. That day never came as my folks didn’t really have the money to buy stuff like this for us kids. All good. They did what they could. I’d love to see more of this truck just so I can go back in time to a fun, memorable, place.
Stay tuned. I won’t do a full video on this specific one, but I think I’ll have something that’ll scratch that itch. Thanks for stopping by!
One of my favorite RC’s of all time. We used to run a small Class of these at Radioactive Raceway in Bolingbrook, IL, back in the day. I have an assembled but never run Re Re. It’s so beautiful.
That’s awesome! I remember Radioactive. I grew up in the Chicago burbs, worked at Al’s Hobby in Elmhurst in high school, but I’m not sure if I ever made it to Radioactive. Stay tuned to the channel for more on this kit!
@@quietrc woah cool! Al’s was the best! I loved the consignment stuff in the basement. I grew up in Willowbrook and went to Hinsdale Central. Maybe we bumped elbows at some point.
Class of ‘99. Go Red Devils!
@@quietrc I think I remember you. Did you go to Chapter 1 Study Hall? I remember a guy who always had an issue of Car Action, who worked at Al’s.
I don't recall if I went to Chapter 1 or not. Don't remember what that is. Not sure I ever brought RCCA to school, but I did work at Al's. So that has to be a small percentage of people at HCHS.
Just built both these kits and man was the team associated a let down. So many little screws or o rings missing and the fit and finish of the drive line components was terrible. I feel like I need to upgrade all the plastic drive line parts such as ring and pinion gears in order for it to be smooth. The lc racing kit really blows this one out of the water.
I need to sit down and build this one. I think it’s kind of controversial.
Wow your home is right besides the park? you can literally go out the door and do some runs, thats awesome
Actually, that's part of our yard. We live kind of on the outskirts, so we have a large wooded property here... That being said, it does provide plenty of room to run!
I have just started my build as we speak. Stopped for a video break and this showed up in my feed. I was disappointed it did not have bearings as I assumed it would have unlike the RC10ST I built back in 1993. I was happy to see bearings in my Kyosho Optima re-release along with the belt upgrade. Hopefully I do not strip out pt#6575 like I did on my ST.
It’s just hard to justify lack of bearings being included in kits these days.
i still have my OG RC10T that i bought in the mid 90's it lives forever on my desk, the servo was tapped down but i used something tougher, still holding, notched the rear frame to make room for a clip on motoro heatsink, still running the old gem series diamond 12T double, Novak ESC, grey shocks, and lots of dust
The old Speed Gems are my favorite. Don't know if we'll ever see powder coated cans again for each specific wind.
I had the Diamond it was an awesome motor. Used it in a Kyosho Outlaw Ultima
I am working onthe same kit and u mentioned where I can put it but I still don't understand where I can put it at can u show me a visual video plz? I need help?
You don’t understand where you can put *what*?
How durable are these?
Never had it break until I let my old frat brothers drive it during a weekend of heavy imbibing.

So, which one did you like running more?
The 14b build keeps getting pushed back... I really gotta get to it!
Love it... The escort body is the way to go and great tips for reference.
Absolutely my favorite rally body.
I have that same brushed reedy motor I bought for a T3 and it’s a good quick motor. I used a 2/1 spectrum brushed esc/receiver and I ran either 7 cell NiH batteries or 2s lipos and that setup I thought was great for the older cars. Much faster than they were originally and fun in the dirt. I sold my T3 and am looking to buy this redo. Thanks
I think the motor will be great. Really looking forward to it.
nice mine should be waiting for me when I get home from work.
Hopefully you can build it at a more reasonable hour than I did.
@@quietrc Yes thank god I do not have to film it
1:40 A.M. is not really an "All nighter". I would call it "burning the midnight oil." Not that I could stay up all night doing this. I'm too old for that crap. LOL
Video can't edit itself! I wrapped editing at 4:40AM.
@@quietrc Ohhhh.....I didn't realize you edited it the same night too. I would say that qualifies as an all-nighter. 4:40 A.M. is too late for me.
@@KevintheTerrible Its too late for me, as well. Two days later and I don't feel fully recovered.
This is the first time I've seen your hair messed up lol Do you think the drivetrain can take a brushless system What don't you like about the brushed system
I had just wrestled 3 kids through dinner out and then went into the wee hours of the night... just trying to show you I am human after all!

Another great video, thanks for the build tips. Hoping mine arrives today.
Hope there's some helpful stuff in there for your build.
Nice build!! -The chassis reminds me a bit of my own custom full aluminum ratrod rc... :D p.s. As far as I know the see-through clear electronics was originally intended for prison use to avoid contraband hidden inside walkmen and radios...
Better hiding contraband in a Walkman rather than some other places.
Appreciate you sharing. Bi carb and super glue works as a filler. Too many stress fractures in the brain for me. I've only got a set of metric taps. I won't tap that with a ten foot pole. I wonder what clear pearl or lame flake would look like between coats. Great job none the less. Team associated aka Bastard products inc
They've been successfully getting a lot of money from me lately.
Great description of the build. The body looks beautiful. Well done 👍🙂
Appreciate that, it was a lot of work/time.
About half way through my cc build I decided to take one of the shock screws and sharpened and reshaped it a bit. A DIY 4-40 tap. What a difference after that. I used oil before. And standard Tamiya hex tool worked with the ball studs. Great video!
Smart idea... I can certainly understand why you'd get to the point of fashioning your own tap.
I love your attention to detail and your sense of humor
Thanks!
Looks great ... i really love the paint job....awesome
Appreciate it!
Lots of great tips in there to build this RC10 👍And the final reveal is awesome 🤩🤝
Thank you 👍
thanx for the hop up list!

did you custom build your house like a wharehouse - it looks really cool / practical
The outside is called board and batten. Traditional with mid-century modern houses, which is what we were going for.
I like your whole set up, classy.
Thanks!
