After working as an engineer for 4 years I finally took to the leap of faith in building luxury experiential vacation rentals by building The Pacific Bin, a shipping container home built from 5 shipping containers. I have a passion for filmmaking and construction which has lead me to creating this channel. My goal is to document my build processes varying from shipping container construction to small Scandinavian spa's. I will take you through every step of the way, from the initial design to the final touches. You will get an inside look at how I create these beautiful homes that are perfect for your next vacation. Join me on this journey as we explore the creation of luxury experiential vacation rentals.

Awesome video Devon..lots of work but you seem to love it..I also love that you save every penny you can doing some things yourself..Cheers
well its a good thing you went with the 3 hinge in hindsight.
so just dont stack your containers when building it ? whats so difficult
Man that looks like Whatcom County where I grew up.
I dug eight 18 inch diameter holes with a 1000 lb mini skid steer with auger bit, 40 inches deep (my county requires 30 inch depth minimum, which is the frost line in my area). I inserted 18 inch diameter sonotubes down to 30 inches, and left the remaining 10 inches in direct contact with the soil. I cut the tops of the sonotubes 5 inches above grade (mark with laser level, and cut with jigsaw). I built wooden frames out of 2x4s that I staked down around each sonotube, and used poultry wire staples to connect each sonotube to the wooden frame from inside the sonotube, to prevent it from moving during the pour. I built cages out of #4 rebar, and set them in the holes with rebar chairs on the bottoms. Passed footing inspection. I bought a 5 cu ft concrete mixer from Home Depot (cannot imagine mixing all that in a wheelbarrow!), and have poured six out of the eight piers so far with 4000 psi concrete. Each pier is taking sixteen 60 lb bags! Home Depot dropped the pallets of concrete in my back yard, so I just use a Gorilla Cart wagon to move bags to where I'm pouring. I built a chute out of scrap wood so I can pour directly into each hole instead of having to move concrete from the mixer to the hole (no wheelbarrow or shovel needed!). I also picked up a concrete vibrator from Harbor Freight. Thing works amazing. I'm sore as hell. Taking the day off tomorrow (supposed to rain), but I'll finish up on Monday.
Love the guest book! Well done
I love you bro but that is the worst demo job i seen. it was very unprofessional and dangerous and that is exactly how not to do a demo job. you could of easily hurt yourself and you are not even aware of your mistakes. always start from top to bottom when doing demo like this. you honestly gave me a heart attack watching this. Honestly i would of fired you on the spot if i seen you doing demo like that.
Houses like that actually depriciate in value over time. Just like a car. You're not going to be building equity with those things. Yea you have a roof over your head, but a car can pretty much do that too. And it won't cost you an arm and a leg to do.
He could have saved over 100k if he had carpentry, welding, electricity and plumbing skills....
You didn't watch the video 🤡
30k to set up electric, Why not go solar? No monthly electric bill
Without AG1 water , I would never have made it to 50 years old….🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
It took me one minute of listening to him talk before I paused the video and checked the comments and found what I expected. I finished the video and my instincts were right. Terrible lol
$542,000. I just saved you from 18 minutes of nonsense and garbage. You're welcome
Very nice breakdown. One estimate missing for me: how much would this build cost without using the containers, just traditional build? Did you look into that?
Nice you're going through all these efforts but the point of having a tiny/container home is for super affordability and sustainability for everybody, and not necessarily having to spend the same amount (around $0.5 to $1 mill) as any other conventional stereotypical houses out there 🤷♂️. The future living is about moving towards sustainability, self-sufficiency, and more super affordable tiny houses for everybody (think $50K) 😊🙏 Now, what you could contribute with all your accumulated experiences of building such a home is possibly coming up with a new kind of nextgen tiny home construction company that stiches all of these pieces that you did together (not for high end build but make it super affordable and minimalist version). Because most people don't know how to build and stitch up all of these components, but if the company provides an all-inclusive tiny house building package that's super affordable and minimalist and cater this service to the millions, now you're really doing something for everybody! 😊🫶💚
I was told that the properties at seattle is not allowed for airbnb?
I would love a follow-up "If I did it again" where you talk about what it would cost for you to do it again with the knowledge you gained and a little more patience with the project. As a sidenote, would it have been possible to alleviate some of the bracing of the bottom floor by giving the top containers corner legs that went straight down into the concrete foundation? This seems like it could alleviate the bracing and load requirements of the side walls of all the containers by using their normally strong corners. Perhaps it would make it harder to place the large windows for the bedroom though?
Great job, you nailed it.
That’s insane there’s no way you’re selling that for $1m.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. You could have build a real brick house for less.
Dude someone needs to get that bmw!
Working on getting it out of there this week!
Love that anker. Feels like a great solution for eliminating generators at tailgates too!
Seriously I'm so obsessed with this thing! Pretty much made generators obsolete (except in cases where massive constant power requirements are needed). I really won't have any need for the generator I used to build the bin now!
Nice video but Devon where did you buy all the safety equipment ? I mean you are very young and very success driven BUT please protect yourself - it takes only one wrong move and you'll be paying for it !!!
I know, you're right. I forgot it at my property, I'll have it in future videos.
Where are running the wires
maybe rent an excavator to take it down a bit faster.... (and safer) then dig your footings with it it. Keep up the good work!
Agreed. An excavator digging arm is also useful at lifting wall sections and trusses.
We have an excavator coming on Friday! I think we are just going to leave the footers though as we are going to be doing a 6" lift of dirt where the sauna goes, so we will just cover them up.
How do you get starlink to work with so many trees around?
Bears are lil troublemakers man! Adorable though
$20,000 for insulation huh?
Hey Devon, I’d be interested in talking to the home owner about the BMW. Would you mind connecting me with the owner of the car? Thanks for the video!
I don't think it's for sale. Sorry.
@@devonloerop bummer, let me know if it does end up being an option. I’m local to the area. Thanks!
Great video. Cant wait to follow along
what happened to the bmw?
The owner lost the keys a few years ago.
@@devonloerop imagine if you could make it into a cool looking room
@@darrenhoong7988 haha build a box around it! 😂
it's a pity about wasted material
What are you gonna use the rotted wood for lmao
@@unitapercorrect, it was pretty rotted out!
love the video
Glad you enjoyed it!
dude, buy some protection gear. a helmet or gloves
I know, I know. I forgot them at my property. 😅
Please!
@@devonloerop devon bro i don't think you are aware how badly you can get hurt. You are really under estimating how demo jobs should be handled. what you did honestly was so dangerous you actually put your life at risk for a little demo job. is it gonna be worth it if you break your arms hands and you be out of work for long time? get the damn ladder and start from top to bottom. your safety should be your number one priority bro.
Are you concerned with a recession affecting your rental business? I’d love to see true ROI numbers to compare to passive investments like VOO
Geez that’s ridiculous I mean for 750000 dollars he could’ve built a real house made of wood and stone he could’ve used the pine trees and built a really nice log cabin for a lot less and still gotten good equity out of it I’d say 160 plus 250 with sweat equity all in all mid 300s I own some property in South Carolina paid for I was thinking about the container home but now for me it wouldn’t be cost effective … I wonder how many people are going to actually use the bin house …. I don’t see it??That area he’s in is secluded … I just don’t see it I know his parents are shaking their heads.???
Gotta love when you're looking at prices and they look decent and then you get to check out and it doubles with all the fees 😂
No excessive fees for my place. If you book at the direct link you'll save even more cutting out airbnb fees. The link is in my description.
And what is that song you use @4:11?
Dang... I would love to rent there, BUT I don't make enough a month for you to rent it out.
I would love to host you in the future. :)
the bears have a human problem is mor like it, they were here first and they will be here last again
Legality. Many countries and building regulations have a negative attitude towards container houses.
It’s scary when you faked your injury. I was expecting to see some blood when you were opening your hand. But it turned to be a “like” 😂 You’re not only creative with your houses but also your ways of marketing. Wish you will get more subscribes 👍🏼
I love the book! ❤
You could build metal drop box trash cans. It's the same design libraries use for their book drop box in most cities
I'm a welder/fabricator and can draw up some prints for you if you want as well! 👍
These are the same issues I had. I own a saw mill so I was able to CUT my costs a lot. I built the one I live in by hand…I’d do it again, but wouldn’t build another one for someone else
Wow! You are genius! I've watched all your videos and i was amazed! Where is this Airbnb cottage? I'd like to book my next vacation 😊
