The DO NOT ENTER symbol is an internationally recognized symbol that has the force of law behind it because of international agreements and internal US law. That symbol pertains to ALL traffic both vehicles and pedestrian. Yes, in the USA, one is most likely to encounter this symbol as a traffic control device while driving. It's use, however, is not limited to vehicular traffic. You should not have walked past the DO NOT ENTER sign. You are in the wrong and should cooperate with police to the extent required by law and accept punishment. That symbol literally means NO TRAFFIC SHOULD ENTER PAST. The young officer is correct. Because of US law and international agreements: venturing past a DO NOT ENTER symbol is trespassing. She has every right to admonish and evict you. These symbols are made so that no matter where you are within the territory of the international signers, these symbols hold the exact same meaning and force of law. The symbol even allows for exceptions in its agreed upon description. In this case, police vehicles. Had they used any other sign you would have a case, but this symbol has the law on its side. You should not venture past it. You do not have a first amendment right to pass the DO NOT ENTER symbol. It is an internationally recognized restriction. I do agree that you failed to recognize the international symbol for DO NOT ENTER (in the USA we actually write the meaning on it because people are thick but the words are not required to be there). I also agree that the police, in this instance, failed to uphold the law. They had every standing they needed to remove you and because they were scared or frustrated they failed to act during the few times when they were actually correct and the auditor in the wrong! And yes, had it went to court, the police could have won their case citing the international agreement for this symbology alone. It's literally tied to the trespassing laws by international accord and covers both pedestrian and vehicular traffic with allowances for exceptions.

So now cops are taught to boss around the law abiding public by quoting things are "pretty much implied". I don't ever remember the supreme court ruling that laws are "pretty much implied". Please tell me Grimy is no longer a cop!
