I Made Civil War Era Breeches - 17th Century Outfit Part Two!
Breeches? During the civil war? Well yes, in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, better known as the English Civil War, breeches were the standard legwear for men at all levels of society from the king to paupers!
This is the second part of my ongoing series about making 17th century clothing for a new reenactment impression. This time we're making a pair of linen lined wool knee length breeches of the kind that would have been worn all over Europe and the European colonies abroad in the Thirty Years War, or the Colonial Period, or the later part of the Renaissance, around the 1630s and 1640s.
Historical costume can be a challenge, and these "britches" were certainly interesting to make! I hope this is a useful and interesting little video that helps to break down a little of the tailoring, sewing, cutting, pattern making, piecing, and ironing into slightly more manageable chunks. After all, if I can sew a pair of breeches, anyone can!

No, Old Welsh Is Not Ancient Egyptian.
zhlédnutí 17KPřed 21 dnem
I've had some comments on a short I released recently, telling me that Egyptian hieroglyphs are actually Old Welsh, and that Welsh is the hieroglyphic language of the Pharaohs. This is, to be blunt, not true. However, a theory has been developed that claims to be able to use Old Welsh to decipher the hieroglyphic writings of Ancient Egypt, and there's even a book on the subject. Seeing as this ...

Thanks for such a nice explanation of your own decision and encouragement to others to follow the best path for themselves, whatever it may be. As a person in their late 60's I wholeheartedly agree with your advice and add that there can be several points in one's life that require rethinking and re-orienting. A good fit for one's interests, motivations and mental health only remains the same for some people over a life time. But we can get caught up in thinking we have to stay the course, that giving up on something that's not working demonstrates failure or low character, that we're too invested or obligated to shift away from it, or just fear of making a change. Then we're stuck. And miserable. So, thanks again for putting your own story out there and doing that responsibly. Glad to hear you're much pleased. And surely there's inspiration in it for others.

I would say that archery that means military war bows in the hands of people who are trained and practice is better than matchlock muskets ( And yes, I am expanding this beyond scope) However, when it comes to Flintlock muskets, we don’t have to manage your glowing that match, and you can have something at the ready and even shield it from the rain when it comes to ease and training and having ready spear, musket will be better than archery With one exception, if you have a contingent of archers mass together, who are highly trained and practice, then they’re on par or even superior if they deployed properly, that means they can mass fire That’s because they can shoot faster than the muskets can reload

Random thought on an old video: hair texture can change if you wear hair up and more specifically covered over long periods of time (months at least if not years). Hair can also stop growing if it’s consistently covered like that. I wonder how much research there has been on medieval women’s (or men’s) hair texture due to headcoverings

Do you need some allo mothers to get behind you, fuss at you a little, set some timelines? Basically get your ass back in gear. Maybe you do need to take a bit of time off. Don't do as I did and take 26 years to return to working for my degree. We don't regret what we've done; only what we didn't do.I was almost 40 and Sir Brian May was older still. Do I use my degree? Nope. I'm retired now but I never was a quitter but I did let life get in the way. I'm still writing papers in my head that will never see the printed page but that's ok. Take some time and see if, in time, you can't let it go.You'll know when the time is right or I come and let my booted foot come in sharp contact with your posterior.

The best thing about medieval clothes is how long they are! In modern clothing you might wear a warm jacket and your torso is fine, but your legs are cold because you only wear a pair of jeans. But with medieval clothes you wear woollen pants, you wear leg wraps, and you wear long tunics that cover thighs, so your legs are warm as well, and that does so much for your overall comfort!

This feels a lot like being in sixth grade and realizing I could wipe the floor with most people at two truths and a lie if I just chose an obscure fact, used the right tone of voice and added enough surface level knowledge about the aspects surrounding it. Perversely, it also worked on the GMs, because they rarely if ever kept a copy of the reference material for themselves during the game, and could not tell which would-be rube was just very confidently telling utter hogwash about a subject they had a degree in and had spent hours preparing facts about the night before. This isn't academics being butthurt that no one will accept their theory. This is a student taking to twitter after it turns out their professor actually has access to the semi-obscure text they used to lend credence to their doctored references.
